Has anyone else tried omeprazole?

I got prescribed this by a Doctor but have an irrational fear of taking new medication, as I reacted badly to something years ago and ended up quite ill. Has anyone had a reaction to it? Does it help acid indigestion quickly?
Grateful for any replies/help to put my mind at ease. I'm desperate to get rid of this acid reflux. Think I just need a bit of encouragement to take it. Fully accept I'm being irrational.
Thank you x

Yes, if I get a flare-up of gastritis. Absolutely brilliant stuff, though you need to take it regularly (not ad hoc). Plus, I think "proton pump inhibitor" sounds very Star Trek, which pleases me.

I take it for gastritis too - it is brilliant.

I have been taking this for seven years, and it helped my heartburn and acid reflux. Before they tried me on this, my heartburn was so bad they were going to have to do an EGD to rule out an ulcer. I still have a few instances where I burp and have reflux, but the heartburn is gone. However, if I run out or forget to take it for more than one day, the bad heartburn starts up again, so I'm sure I will be taking this for the rest of my life - healthexpress.co.uk/omeprazole

This is exactly what happens when I don't take one for 2 days. Atm I take one every other day and if I leave it any longer I get horrendous burning. I don't even have to be eating or drinking to get it. I have been on iy nearly 3 months and the doctor said I can't have another lot so I don't know what I'll do as Gaviscon, etc, does nothing.

@Lisa3684 Wouldn't it make more sense to have an endoscopy and find out what the actual problem is rather than taking this drug for 7 years?
Ulcers can be cured by antibiotics in many cases.
My GP referred me straight for an endoscopy so they were able to rule out ulcer and other things.
