It’s the little things isn’t it?

DP and I have to go and run a few errands today, he was finishing getting dressed and I was making the bed. I said “I’m goi g to have a quick shower before we go” and he nodded, walked into the bathroom and turned the shower on for me so it was running warm when I got in there.

It’s such a little thing but he does a lot of little things and they add up to much, much greater than any big gesture.

Any other examples of ‘little things’?

Mine has a cuppa ready for me when I come downstairs in the morning.

He de ices the car.
He pops out to pick up ingredients I've forgotten when I'm cooking.
He buys me Bath foam when he thinks I need to have a long bath rather than a quick shower.
He'll drop everything if we've got a childcare crisis.
If I've put lip balm on, he'll kiss me even though he hates 'sticky lips'.
He tops up my hot water bottle.
He makes sure that my favourite cereal-eating spoon is washed and ready for my breakfast.
He's a good'un.

Colourinsidethelines · 18/02/2023 18:00

He will always go to the shop for me if I need chocolate.

Always makes me a coffee in the morning.

Never makes a drink or gets anything from the kitchen without asking if I want something too.

I get flowers just because sometimes.

Always gives me the last chocolate/sweet in the packet we are sharing.

IrisJoy · 18/02/2023 18:08

Also de ices my car, made me a hot water bottle the other day when I had bad period cramps, yesterday I was trying to get loads of work done and was stressed, I asked him to run the hoover around the hall, he hoovered the whole house, cleaned the kitchen and did two loads of washing (he doesn’t live there). Always makes supper if I am home later than him, always gets bits of treats from the supermarket for me, always offers to do diy (again, we don’t live together). He’s not great at flowers or great professions of love, but this is how he shows he loves me.

MeganLogan · 18/02/2023 18:10

Mine are putting fuel in my car and a random cup of tea. For me, not the car. Makes me feel so special.

and when he returns from shopping, even just groceries and picks me up something I like. A chocolate bar, scratch card, flowers.

Chelsea26 · 18/02/2023 18:11

This is making me feel all soppy, we’re lying on the sofa, both on our phones, half watching the football and I keep looking at him adoringly 😂

He probably thinks it’s because he’s rubbing my feet (which is another lovely little thing he does)

The electric blanket turned on for me just before I get ready for bed. But I do it as I'm on my own!

It's the little things that make us happy, doesn't have to be done by someone else.

Badtasteflump · 18/02/2023 18:40

Lots of little things..... Defrosts my car in the mornings. Puffs up my pillow before bed. Always compliments me - even when I know I'm looking a bit rough 😂. Nearly 25 years together and he's always had my back.

Chelsea26 · 18/02/2023 19:01

And no @OldTinHat we can, and should, look after ourselves too - I used to cook myself a special dinner once a week when I was single, open a bottle of wine and have an evening of doing whatever I wanted, whether that was a 2 hour bath or watching Dirty Dancing for the eleventy-millionth time!

Watching films that I love that he can't stand when I need to chill. A morning brew whenever it pratical.

Shunkleisshiny · 18/02/2023 19:37

DH has just served me a dish of HD strawberry shortcake ice cream and he's cut the wafers in the shape of a heart.😍 I could not love him more, (married 47 years.)

RoryMcGory · 18/02/2023 19:51

Makes me a cup of tea every morning.
Gets up early to feed the indoor cats (we have a lot) and the also the street cats, so I can lie in a bit.
Always brings little gifts back from work trips.
Before we moved abroad he bought me flowers every week. I told him to stop when we moved as they just die in the heat and it's a waste.

RoryMcGory · 18/02/2023 19:52

Oh, makes the best G&T.

DarkChocHolic · 18/02/2023 19:55

Awww...having a bad day with my DH and feeling low.
Reading these has actually cheered me up as he is lovely and will do so many thoughtful things for me.
Thanks for this thread!

PauliesWalnuts · 18/02/2023 19:55

Services my bicycle better than any bike shop, and cycles to work behind me, partly to let me set the pace, partly to google my bum, and partly so that “in case anyone hits us they’ll hit me first”.

Sexypyjamas · 18/02/2023 19:56

These posts are lovely. My DH makes me coffee and toast and brings it up to me on the days when he isn't running late. He takes the wheelie bins out and goes to the shop when I really don't want to. He rubs my back or my feet and always gives me a plate of food first before himself. He texts/rings me (when he's on breaks at work), which I love.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 18/02/2023 20:13

My Dh leaves me a mug with t bag in and a kettle with enough water in for the mug. I get in just after midnight and he’s already gone to work. Means so much.
I leave his slippers under the radiator so they are warm to put on and soon as he gets in. Hope it means something to him.

reddingweddy · 18/02/2023 20:15

These are so lovely!
Mine:
Takes the dc swimming every week because he knows how much it stresses me (from the days of having to get dry, dressed in full uniform and to the next lesson in five minutes)
Makes me coffee in the mornings
Defrosts my car ( and cleans it... and hoovers it)
Makes me hot water bottles
Rings me from work to see how I am, every day (am currently unemployed and not enjoying it)
Sleeps on the sofa when I have a cold because I snore like a hippo when I'm congested.

ApplePippa · 18/02/2023 20:30

"Saves shows he starts on Netflix to watch together if he thinks I'd enjoy them"

My DH does this too - it's a really lovely gesture!

DH travels a lot for work, which means if he's away overnight I miss my weekly hobby group. This week he's working two days a 2.5 hour drive away - he's absolutely dead set on coming home for the night and driving back the next morning so that I can go out. I've. reassured him it's fine and I can miss it, but he's determined that I get my evening out. Love him so much for that.

Mine leaves me a cup of tea in the morning in my insulated cup . 😀

Mine too! I asked for my tea in an insulated cup during lockdown so I could doze...& it's carried on ever since.

Goes out of his way to make amazing weekend breakfast and his coffee

No problem with me having an afternoon nap at the weekend (we sort of take it in turns)

Thepossibility · 18/02/2023 21:04

I think lovely threads like this are important for everyone to realise that there are nice men out there and women don't have to put up with these awful men you read about on here.
My DH brings me a coffee in bed every morning (or tea and toast when I was pregnant.)
He also always puts petrol in my car for me so I don't have to do it with my kids.

Kamisaka · 18/02/2023 21:09

When I'm locking up the house and he's waiting in the car he puts the heated seat on ready for me. He doesn't use it himself, just not a fan, but he knows I love a hot arse.

Simonjt · 18/02/2023 21:25

My husband is most definitely not a morning person, if left he will sleep until about 10am, I go for a run everyday from about 5:45-6:30am, when I get back he is always asleep and snoring like a pig, but there is always a thermos of coffee in the kitchen with a solitary oreo beside it.

BG2015 · 18/02/2023 21:26

He cooks 60% of our evening meals and always cooks Sunday lunch!

Makes me a brew everyday!

He also gets all of the (my) hair out of the shower and sink drains 🤢

Chelsea26 · 18/02/2023 21:47

@Simonjt That’s amazing! A lot of these I’m reading and thinking “yeah, I do that sometimes/would do that for DP” - as another non-morning person, getting out of his lovely warm pit at 6am is true love!

My husband didn't complain when I woke him up in the middle of the night to get me an ice patch for my head when I had a really bad headache.

He also tucks me in every night.
