Tell me about your nightmare young children

As the thread title.

I’m 32, have 3 dc aged 17, 14,12, married, plenty of space in the house with not many years left on mortgage.

So why oh why am I getting incredibly broody, we had recently been ttc but I was relived this month when af arrived, spoke to Dh and told him I was actually relieved along with all the reasons why. He’s not happy, but just follows my lead in everything anyway so he’s not particularly bothered about it either.
Great, now I can crack on with life and enjoy the freedom I’ve so far never had because I’ve spent all my adult life parenting.
But I’m so backwards and forwards with this that hearing how difficult the young stage is might just tempt me to get the coil in.

Just the thought of standing in the freezing horizontal rain doing the school run should be enough to put you off!

Try setting your alarm for hourly intervals through the night for the next 3 months and see how you feel. Don’t forget, on at least 3 of these alarms, make sure you get up and sit up for 45 mins instead of staying in your nice cosy bed. You know, as if you were up feeding, changing a nappy, changing your pj’s after being covered in puke Grin

I’d do it again in a heartbeat if I could, even though mine never actually slept for several years!

Rugbyballhead · 17/02/2023 19:52

It's difficult either way!
No matter what a pain they are at times, they're also loving and adorable!
How much do you love sleep? How important is going to the bathroom by yourself? 😂

Get a dpuppy. .

Anothernamechangeflip · 17/02/2023 20:15

School runs are a massive factor in why another one wouldn’t be a great idea, starting all that again when the youngest has just left secondary sounds like a total nightmare.

I also do love my sleep.

But all these cons somehow don’t negate the desire for a baby when it strikes.

Its only really the last year that I’ve been feeling this, before that I was absolutely done, Mother Nature is strange.

DD is 2. She is a ninja for being held in your arms and launching herself and her really ducking sharp teeth and biting your nose. Any time. Any place. Chomp chomp chomp.

Superfrog3 · 17/02/2023 20:28

The cries, the back ache from constantly holding them, the fact they throw themselves about because they didn't get their own way and then cry and you have to fix it when they hurt themselves. Explosive 💩 - my daughter cannot sit in her car seat without doing a poo and because of the angle of the car seat it always leaks! Paw patrol/ peppa pig/ insert name of annoying kids TV here. Throwing food, the fact your house will never be tidy again. Standing on lego and little plastic toys. Wee and all the places it goes ( especially with boys). Not being able to leave the house without a bag of nappies, babywipes, toys, snacks, spare clothes. Loosing your sanity!! 🙃 The long, long hours!

But honestly I love my kids ❤️

DubLynn · 17/02/2023 20:29

Mine are still young (7 and 8) but i just love that when i take them to playgrounds (for example), i can sit and read my book or wander off to the coffee van and come back. I see the mums with little kids who need to be followed around and i feel so relieved that's not me anymore.

However you're still young yourself! So it could be lovely

Jellycatspyjamas · 17/02/2023 20:39

How old are you OP, I think as we start to approach menopause our hormones give one last kick of broodiness. I didn’t do the pregnancy thing and mine are late primary school - as lovely as the early years were I’d not go back to endless octonaughts and paw patrol and huge plastic toys for anything. Enjoy your burgeoning freedom.

MrsBunnyEars · 17/02/2023 20:50

My current issue is ‘MUMMY….I NEED TOAST’ yelled at me through the monitor every day at 5.30.

Yes, 5.30.

I adore DD, but once I was out of this stage (especially having done it three times!) there is no way I’d go back.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 17/02/2023 20:52

I have spent the day tripping up over my 3yo because wherever I go, she is right there behind me. We have argued about her brushing her teeth, getting changed, what she's having for breakfast, how much dinner she needs to eat and it was a battle to wash her hair in the bath because of the constant complaints about non-existant water going in her eyes. We have hit the threenager stage and it is awful, ha. DD2 (10 months) shit all the way up her back yesterday morning because of teething. I love them and I'll miss these days but my god they are hard work ha

This is genuinely the primary reason for us stopping at 2. My DDs learnt to read pretty quickly, but it was still too painful to do again.

Phos · 17/02/2023 21:02

Well I’m currently sitting on the floor in the spare room at my cousins whilst my almost bloody SIX year old who still won’t go to sleep by herself fidgets, picks her nose and does anything but go to sleep. Rather than having a nice evening catching up over a glass of wine.

summerlovingvibes · 17/02/2023 21:14

Not being able to pee, poo or shower in peace .... or do anything else.
Cook, watch tele, sleep, cough, blink or breathe without being asked why / how / when / WHHHHAATTTTTT MUMMY?!?!??

Seriously, don't do it. Nope nope nope.

Maryandherlamb · 17/02/2023 21:14

I've had a bit of a nightmare day with mine. The highlight was her throwing her entire dinner of tomato pasta all over my newly mopped floors.

I see this. I know it. But then, I am snuggled in bed with a warm cuddly wee bunny. I can't leave, so that sucks but then, do I want to? She smells really lovely, she gives me an excuse to go to bed super early, she smiles when she sleeps, also at my boob. She chats to my boob too. Would love to know what that chat is all about!

SmellyNelliey · 17/02/2023 21:48

Op I've got 4 children I've just turned 27 this week and thinking about baby no 5!!
I just love being a mummy and everything that comes with it!

FebruaryWhining · 17/02/2023 21:50

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 17/02/2023 22:04

I'll help with the pregnancy part. I woke up last night at 2am with a coughing fit. I coughed until I threw up. The yoghurt tasted better going down. I wet myself coughing. Then my 2 week constipation gave out and I couldn't get off toilet for my bowels exploding. I have 16 more weeks of this shit.

But sorry I can't help with baby part as I can't wait for baby to come 🤗

Teenage pregnancies do happen, and it doesn't always result in poverty and no career. Very impressed she has nearly paid off the mortgage at 32!

Testng123 · 17/02/2023 22:17

My friend was really broody for no 4 and went for it...and had twins!

Anothernamechangeflip · 17/02/2023 22:36

Some great contraception on here, I do not miss the whinging of all 3 dc thinking they were going to drown because of getting water in their eyes with hair washing 😂

Yes, I’m 32 with a 17 year old, tbh it’s very traumatic and my whole pregnancy was a secret, Dh stepped in and stepped up and I decided that since I already had 1 dc we may as well complete the family. We slogged our arses off and the first 10 years is now a bit of a blur.
But that’s a whole other thread.

Go for it Grin
I had four and have never regretted it. And if you have a stable home and income you are in a good place for a snuggly delicious baby.

Just remember they turn into toddlers....

SomethingOnce · 18/02/2023 19:28

I’d be planning three more tbh. Sorry Grin
