That’s extortion…

All electric house, no gas, no oil, electric heating which is allegedly the best on the market..obviously not, have mainly used for the kids rooms at night, I use the wood burner, I try to use as much overnight as possible on the ‘cheaper’ rate, hot water is heated for 3 hours overnight, I set the washing machine to finish at 5.30 am, use the tumble dryer as little as possible but have no way of actually drying stuff…

I have no idea how the feck I’m going to pay the £600 a month direct debit they want from me! That’s 1/2 my rent…Apparently my measly £375 isn’t enough, savings dwindling as is my pay rise, Council tax is about to go up 5% my food bill is astronomical..!! I don’t drink, I don’t smoke! What a fucking joke…

Joyful times ahead…not 😞😞😞

Don't heat the bedrooms overnight. Heat them for half hour before bedtime just to take the chill off. I never heard of the blanket under the mattress but it sounds a good idea. Hot water bottle in the bed down by the feet, when they get in they can move it up to their chest so both ends warm. Fleece pyjamas. 13.5 tog duvet and blankets on top, as many as necessary. You can get woollen blankets from army surplus for £15 approx. It's cold when you first get into bed but put your head right under the duvet and you'll warm up in 10min then can put it back out again to breathe more easily. Check how draughty the windows are too, you can get foam padding to help seal the gap if necessary. Put the clothes for the next day under the duvet at the end corner of the bed so they're not icy cold to put on in the morning.

Does your water tank have an insulating jacket round it? If not, get one.

No you don’t as long as you have no gas supply

Sadly that doesn't surprise me, our last two bills have been £258 and £212 and we're on gas, unfortunately electric is so much more.

My DU and DA moved house last November, all electric. DA has always (even when young) liked the heating high (26c!) and at 85 just won't compromise despite her DH and DS constantly turning it down. Their first month was £1400!!

Sorry, forgot to add my own advice. Moving forward, might be worth seeing what happens if you heat the water less. It certainly won't need to so much spring-autumn. Also, I'd try and limit heating in bedrooms to only when it's really cold. If you've got a dishwasher, tumble dryer or hairdryer, it's certainly worth trying to limit those. Also, if you can start making things last another day before putting in wash, might only be a few items a week but any less use is beneficial.

Annoyingly I need the hot water tank on at the moment as our shower broke and I need the water to wash until my landlord fixes it…been waiting 3 weeks so far!

I'm not sure how I’m supposed to use less electricity, when I have no other source of power?!?! I need to be able to wash and dry clothes, and have lights on to see etc…I work from home in the kitchen as it’s the warmest room in the house.

We have had to use dehumidifiers in my kids rooms as we found them riddled with black mould, but again used them over night.

The house is cold, I should be able to afford to heat it slightly 🤷‍♀️ I’m just shocked at how much I owe and the money on electric is going to hit us hard each month.
