Scientific advisory role which involves site visits and outdoor survey work, meetings with government officials, international conferences and some desk work. I love the variety.

Do you think it would be better to also ask posters where they live?
These sort of questions come up regularly on MN and there always seems to be people earning good salaries for what appears to be relatively easy job, but I think that must be London weighting.
Where I live there are very few jobs paying that much and for most of those you need very specialised training.

Teacher, Scotland. Friends that are police officers earn same. All at top of our scale, but not leadership.

Most trades will earn more than that, in London/ South East anyway

NoodleDoodleDo · 17/02/2023 10:27

Contract manager in construction industry.

Some of the plant drivers earn that too (but long hours)

How are teachers not using screens?
We use them for just about every lesson, and then for planning/ assessment afterwards.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 19/02/2023 01:44

I was thinking the same. Everything is taught via the whiteboard these days isn't it?

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 19/02/2023 01:47

Dh - hgv driver.
A friend is a Quality Assessor in a food factory. - clipboards/test tubes and some screen work apparently.

DaveSpud · 19/02/2023 01:47

I'm a teacher. I don't teach everything through a screen. I use the smart board for some lessons but even then, limited time. I spend most of my day, standing at the front of the class, teaching, reading stories, observing children, working with groups, working with individuals, hearing reading. I think the OP meant jobs that are 'plonked in front of a laptop all day' type jobs. I wouldn't say that describes teaching in the slightest.

Anothernameanother · 19/02/2023 01:50

Much of a teacher's day isn't looking at screens. Teaching from slides - you're mostly not looking at the screen but at the students. Most of the lessons include looking at work on paper for 2/3 of the time.

London, I don't think I'd earn over £40k anywhere else in the UK.
