How can I help this heal - little boys face

Any suggestions for my poor little boys face? He went head over heels on the pavement yesterday morning and has scraped his forehead and nose. Took him to minor injuries because there was a lot of blood and he bumped his head, they said just use a bit of savlon and leave be, which I've done.

Trouble is, he is very self conscious about it. We're going to soft play tomorrow and at bedtime he said he didn't want to go any more because other children might run away because he looks scary. Broke my heart.

So, anything I can apply to help it heal quicker?

That needs time to heal, not lotions and potions.

I would work on his self esteem, you really aren't going to get that looking better overnight.

MrsBunnyEars · 16/02/2023 21:13

Poor love. DD did something similar and it healed really quickly - it was wide but not deep. We put her to bed with socks on her hands for a bit to stop her picking the scabs as it healed.

I find Sudocrem helps with things like this. Hope he's better soon.

Wee soul. It does need time but as a herbalist would recommend calendula( marigold) oil or ointment. Wonderfully healing

ureterr1blemuriel · 16/02/2023 21:16

Ah, bless him. I’d not put anything on it or cover it, I think it needs to dry up so it can form the scab. If think twice about soft play in case he catches it and it starts bleeding again.

Children heal amazingly quickly so it should look a lot better soon.

WhisperingAutistic · 16/02/2023 21:16

That doesn't look massively deep thankfully.
I agree with pp, leave of the creams and let it heal on its own. Its very unlikely to scar.

Hedjwitch · 16/02/2023 21:17

He can tell the other kids he got it slaying a dragon,or fighting a crocodile...

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/02/2023 21:19

Aww, his sad little face! It'll heal quickly enough just left alone - tell him that they'll think he's a brave hero and come up with some silly stories of how he could have sustained his war wounds;

  • Fighting a dragon.
  • Climbing the beanstalk when the Giant came home with his Mum from Giant Softplay.
  • Saving Nemo.
  • Jumping out of an aeroplane.

Pick his favourite stories and work out how to weave him into them as the Hero.

RudsyFarmer · 16/02/2023 21:20

I absolutely love Metanium cream but inageee I’d just leave it alone in this instance and let it heal.

anxiousatnight · 16/02/2023 21:21

@Hedjwitch that is a brilliant idea. He is dinosaur obsessed and the soft play we are going to is dinosaur themed.

The photo was taken just after it happened. It's scabbed over now so I think he'll be ok in the soft play. We are going with younger children and there is also a trampoline park, so hopefully it won't be too rough. I did think about cancelling, but I thought once he got there it would take his mind off it.

I know I won't improve it by tomorrow, I've been a bit misleading there. I just meant that he now doesn't want to go places so I wondered if I could speed things along a bit for him. I just feel sorry for him.

No don’t put anything on it.

a salt bath and encourage him to dunk his face, or run the shower over it, but otherwise leave it alone.

fwiw mine did exactly the same. After about a week it was barely visible. It will probably look much better in the morning.

you could have fun making up stories he can tell the other kids about how it happened? Sharks? Swinging through trees like Tarzan or Spider-Man? Got too close to a tiger? I think we said she was auditioning for Rudolph as it was near Christmas 😂

I’d wash it thoroughly when you get back from soft play though, germ pits that they are 😂

Ayeitsme · 16/02/2023 21:21

Search for silicon scar sheets on Amazon. It's like a roll of squishy moist plaster.

It worked like an absolute miracle when my son when arse over tit in the road and took most of his forehead off.

He was 23 though 😂

anxiousatnight · 16/02/2023 21:22

@Ayeitsme thank you, I'll look for those

Definitely like the suggestions about making up a story about how it happened. He also loves sharks, so we could go with that.

Oh, the poor little dude. The other kids absolutely will not run away scared, he'll be the hero of the hour!

WashAsDelicates · 16/02/2023 21:25

He doesn't look scary, he looks adventurous!

I do agree that he'll be fine letting it heal on its own, bless him.

But they're great for leaving on overnight, they really do work.

Agree with @NeverDropYourMooncup here's advice! Your poor boy!! Hope he heals quickly!

MeinKraft · 16/02/2023 21:27

Savlon advanced healing gel is really good.

LondonQueen · 16/02/2023 21:27

Poor boy, it doesn't look particularly deep so should heal fine. Definitely don't put any lotions etc on it, it will heal on its own.

TheFretfulPorpentine · 16/02/2023 22:02

I don't think the other children will run away, he is so cute and has such lovely eyes!

Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 · 16/02/2023 22:22

You'll probably find they'll all just be concerned for him for a minute and run off happily playing.

This. Salt water, plenty of fresh air. Looks quite superficial.
Don't dismiss his worries, but don't pander to them neither. Just say we're going to have a lovely time at soft play, and nobody will care about your war wounds - you can always tell them you got them being a superhero!

Gosh he is cute! His wee face! I hope it heals quickly
