Small kids and PR successes

What rebranding and PR successes have you had with your kids? Asking so I can shamelessly steal your ideas!

Tonight I had a good one with my child who refuses to eat cheese, I gave her a dairy Lee triangle for the first time and just told her it was called a “triangle” and she happily ate it, declaring it as delicious. If I had mentioned the word cheese she wouldn’t have gone near it.

another is that when she says she doesn’t want
dinner I say “ok I’ll just give you a big snack then”. I then plate up her dinner as per normal but just dont
use the word dinner. She will happily eat a “big snack” of sausage, mash and veg; or lasagne; or whatever it is for dinner that night 😂

please share any similar tactics you have so I can shamelessly steal them!

Ds used to hate sweetcorn. He loved yellow peas though 😂

SBAM · 14/02/2023 20:46

Mine were suspicious of meatballs. Enjoyed round sausages in their pasta though.

Clusterfunk · 14/02/2023 20:48

My sibling refused Brussels sprouts but would cheerfully devour “baby cabbages” 😂

Shamelessly placeholding for ideas!

We are still entry level here - my only tip is to brand everything as a race!

FawnFrenchieMum · 14/02/2023 20:52

Mine hated curry but would happily eat ‘creamy chicken’ ie chicken korma or masala with a bit of cream added or bolognaise with rice, AKA chilli that one hated.
One doesn’t like shepards pie but is fine with mince with mash on!

I called water “clear squash”.

worked every time…!

InsufficientMum · 14/02/2023 20:55

Broccoli, white broccoli and pointy broccoli. Wouldn't eat cauliflower or romanesco.

Weesiewoo · 14/02/2023 20:57

Haha. Ds hates curry but loves spicy casserole 😊

DelilahBucket · 14/02/2023 20:57

DS would happily eat white carrots. Hated parsnips though 😂. He's nearly 15 now and doesn't fall for such things any longer!
My niece ate copious amounts of home made garlic bread at a party we were hosting (part baked baguettes, butter, garlic, salt and fresh parsley). She hated butter and parsley and refused to eat them. Butter was a particular sticking point at home.

Definitely borrowing the Big Snack.

DD went through a phase of hating the car, but being fine with ‘Daddy’s taxi’.

FineAndDandyWarhol · 14/02/2023 21:01

DC was disappointed with a present from a family member because there were horses on it. I rebranded them ‘unicorns in training’ and everyone was happy as Larry!

tweetypi · 14/02/2023 21:02

I know you're definitely not tired enough for a nap but let's just lie down for a rest!

queenofthewild · 14/02/2023 21:02

DS wouldn't entertain the idea of a dumpling. But he lived for Soup Pancakes.

Blackcountryexile · 14/02/2023 21:03

A friend's DC liked tomato soup but didn't like most other vegetables. They would eat Mediterranean tomato soup though as they hadn't seen the extra vegetables that had gone into it!

itssquidstella · 14/02/2023 21:05

As a child, DH hated mushrooms but liked 'other chicken'.

Coffeaddict · 14/02/2023 21:11

Only way to get DS to try something new is to say its best friends favouite food. She has many favourite foods 🤣

I remember DSS saying he hated lamb and would not try it. Luckily he really enjoyed the one slice of beef I found hidden amongst the lamb.

callmesophia · 14/02/2023 21:12

These are absolutely brilliant. And what MN is about.

Bunce1 · 14/02/2023 21:14

Teeth brushing. I used to pretend I could see tiny animals in their teeth. They had to open wide and I would say oh my goodness I just saw a tiny lion in there. It was sort of crazy but it worked. As long as I keep chatting about the animals they would keep their mouth open for a good brushing!

HeyMicky · 14/02/2023 21:14

Soup pancakes 😍

Oopswediditagain2023 · 14/02/2023 21:16

Oh yes we too have the "big snack" as DD doesn't eat "lunch" or "tea" 😂 sometimes she refuses to drink her drink, especially when she's poorly and needs her fluids, so I tell her a big secret that her lemonade and blackcurrant squash is "one of mummy's cocktails, but don't tell daddy!" 🤣 ditto for plain lemonade which is sometimes rebranded as "one of daddy's shandies"

It does turn a few heads though when she asks if she can have a shandy with her tea when out and about 🙈🤣

THIS IS BRILLIANT!!! I'm using this 😂

Ridingfree · 14/02/2023 21:22

These are great! DD loves Fairies cabbages absolutely hates Brussel sprouts

Oigetoffmylawn · 14/02/2023 22:05

We also have big snacks.

And DS didn't like toast, but loves warm bread. And hates omelettes, but cheesy egg is a staple!

HelenaJustina · 14/02/2023 22:07

Hated ham but loved ‘pink chicken just like Granny makes’

Phineyj · 14/02/2023 22:14

DH's aunt got him to eat "hot ice cream" (mashed potato).

Curry in our house is Jacob Chicken named in honour of some Anglo-Indian friends.

A lot of sugary drinks and snacks in cafes were sadly labelled only for 8 years and over.

The best one is that after years of soup refusal, DD came back from a meal with the neighbours demanding "soup exactly like X makes." Err that's the soup with the same ingredients as mine?! Sure, whatever.
