Alternative to Oodie that is acceptable on video call?

I've started a new job and I love it. I WFH sometimes and do some online meetings.

Today I just had an additional blanket over my knees but I was pondering an Oodie. Would I look like I'm in pyjamas though? Im looking at the cheap/fake ones so not a massive investment but is there an alternative that I'm missing?

Also aware that temperatures are on the rise (thank goodness)

Maybe I need to invest in good thermals actually.

I sometimes wear a nice warm jumper and put my (fake) oodie around my middle and legs, like a blanket. It's still pretty warm. Then I put it back on after meetings!

Oh. brilliant!

That blazer looks ideal. I'd never heard of that.

I think the gilet might look a bit casual?

Blazer ordered. Thankyou Smile

I might still get an Oodie for non face to face stuff and then it can sit on my lap as required!

I've got a cashmere cardigan (was my late mum's) - looks presentable and is super warm!

Shylo · 14/02/2023 18:25

It does depend on your job and who you are talking to online - however i’d definitely stay away from any sort of Oodie. We have amazon versions at home and they look just the same as on Oodie, decidedly PJish and not at all professional lol

i think the blazer is a bit odd to be honest, it’s a bit formal for a run of the mill zoom and given the v neck and the short length I’m not sure how warm it would actually be?

id say better to get a chunky knit sweater which crosses the home/work divide better in my experience

MaverickGooseGoose · 14/02/2023 18:28

I just use a blanket or my oodie over my legs and a warm nice jumper on top of its cold, I've never actually been cold enough to wear the oodie. I would inwardly judge someone wearing oodie on a call unless it was a very small direct team call and very informal. Unless you're somewhere very far north an hour or so without the oodie must be ok.

I do have cashmere wrist warmers for when it was actually cold, they are nice and cosy.

Hereforthedramaz · 14/02/2023 18:31

I use one of the plug in electric blankets across my legs, keeps me really nice and warm and I can look smarter on top

BooCrew · 14/02/2023 18:31

I wear my (fake) Oodie for internal catch-ups, though I've been there years and know my team very well. Maybe next winter you can do that.

Otherwise I take it off and drape it over my legs, which does a good job of keeping me warm. Usually wearing a jumper or dress and cardi underneath so same as I'd wear to work.

I think the blazer will be good for some calls (client) and Oodie over knees for internal team.

The blazer can have a long black top underneath so it can be appropriate for an hour at a time.

I know what I mean anyway!

Glad I could help! 😁

beachruns · 16/02/2023 16:12

It's arrived and it's ideal! It's probably a bit frumpy for anything more than the seated video calls or going out hunting but it's really warm and comfy!

I wear one on all work calls. Who really cares what you wear if WFH?

Icedlatteplease · 16/02/2023 16:15

Woolovers coatigan. Also got a nice coatigan from TX maxx a couple of months back

Lots of workplaces!

Teaandtoast3 · 16/02/2023 16:17

Heated throw you can plug in. Wrap it around the bits they can’t see

Teaandtoast3 · 16/02/2023 16:18

You could even wrap it around your body. under your top

WeCome1 · 16/02/2023 16:18

I’ve got my warm set up adapted from smart clothes:

heated foot warmer thing, fluffy socks,
blanket round legs, with joggers or leggings as well
top half - vest, long sleeved T-shirt, silk shirt from eBay, wool jumper from tkmaxx.

Generally that’s enough and looks smart bc of the shirt.

Helenloveslee4eva · 16/02/2023 16:18

Oodie hidden by a scarf/ pashmina ? 😂

mynewusername2023 · 16/02/2023 16:24

I wore a black thermal top today and had a cardigan over the top. Lovely and warm and looked smart on a call.

ProfYaffle · 16/02/2023 16:25

Merino wool base layer (leggings and long sleeved top) with normal clothes on top. It's very thin/fine wool and very warm. Reasonably cheap from mountain warehouse.

TheLunchLady · 16/02/2023 16:26

One of my (male) co-workers is often wearing an Oodie during video calls. No one minds.

Saltywalruss · 16/02/2023 16:29

A wooly cardigan/jumper

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 16/02/2023 16:35

I sometimes have a thick blanket wrapped round me under my armpits, like a towel. Can't be seen on screen.
