I have to say my biggest shock from this thread is that there are people who actually read the cooking instructions on a pre-made pizza and expect things to go wrong if they don't have them.

You do know all ovens are different, right?

I agree with picklemewalnuts that sometimes people don’t know kitchen basics for all sorts of reasons. This could be my young adult DS on the autistic spectrum who would be thrown by the apparent lack of instructions and wouldn’t have the confidence to decide on the oven temperature and put the pizza in ‘til it’s done’. This would be the case even if he’s cooked similar pizzas before - he struggles to transfer knowledge and skills to new situations.

This is the kind of thing you gradually learn, I used to be clueless about oven temperatures and timings even though I was generally a reasonably good cook in other ways!

Whack in oven on gas mark 7. Take it out using the sniff test. I.e forget about until you smell burning.

That's what I do anyway!

Crucially OP there is nothing there (uncooked fresh meat or fish) that will hurt you if it's not cooked properly. The meat there looks like pepperoni which is a cured sausage which can safely be eaten cold.
So you really do just need to heat it until it looks, smells, and feels like something you want to eat.

I have 4 6 year olds here for a play date. I have servere health anxiety and the thought of potentially making one of them ill would make my mental health spiral.

I had food poisoning when I first began cooking my own foods and it's made me overly cautious as well.

(And before people tell me that I need help, can't carry on like this etc. I am having CBT and holistic therapies for my anxiety)

The instructions were inside the pack. One was huge and one was small. I also had a few more that had pepperoni and other meats.

I really appreciate the actual advice. I regretted posting as soon as I did as I knew people would not understand.

Op, you have far, far more chance of making yourself or someone else ill by blindly following instructions when cooking, rather than learning to trust your own senses.

You should be able to see if something is under or overcooked either by eye, smell or by using a meat thermometer if it's a roast chicken etc.

Sticking to the instructions regardless isn't the answer. You might have a 'slow oven' so it needs 10 mins extra, or a 'fast oven' that burns it to a crisp. You might be on holiday, or have bought food that doesn't come with cooking instructions.

(It's a kind of "teach a man to fish" situation)

Sometimes the instructions are on the underside of the sticky label, you'd only be able to see it after you've opened the packaging. I expect the pizza has long since been eaten but thought I'd mention for future reference.

I do the medium ones on 200⁰c for about 15/16 minutes. Until the cheese has melted and looks a bit golden

Aaah I'm sorry OP, I feel bad for making fun now, it was uncalled for when you'd just asked a question. I am genuinely sorry. I'm glad you got there in the end, hope everyone liked the pizzas!

If it's any consolation the first time I cooked a packaged pizza like those I didn't take the plastic off and essentially vacuum sealed the pizza in melted plastic - feel free to laugh at me about that, my daughter still does.

I did that with a polystyrene one the first time I cooked a frozen pizza. It wasn't even a mistake, just didn't occur to me it would be an issue (I was a teenager). We all have to learn from somewhere!
