Pillow help needed!

I have a sore neck and back but the pillow I use definitely contributes. I've bought loads and I can't get it right. Tried the rock hard memory foam ones and hate them. I thought I had the found the perfect one from Dunnes but after 6 weeks it's too flat and my sore neck is back. Not very economical to buy a new pillow every few weeks, so any suggestions?
I was thinking of trying the Emma pillow, or a wool one? I just don't want to keep buying the wrong ones!

Have you tried one for the position you sleep in.
I am also after new pillows and it is a bit of a mine field.

Theraffarian · 14/02/2023 08:33

Following as I sleep on my front and have worked my way through 4 useless pillows in the last 12 months . Two started out perfect ( but ikea went lumpy in no time , and Dunelm I had high hopes but is now like a pancake ) , the other two way too hard to start with .

stbrandonsboat · 14/02/2023 08:34

I always use a buckwheat pillow. They stay firm, but aren't hard or uncomfortable. They support the head and neck. They remain cool and you don't get hot and sweaty.

Following with interest. I've gone through so many pillows in the past few years and still haven't found 'the one'.
I'm a side sleeper so if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!

Puddywoodycat · 14/02/2023 08:59

I need firm but not unyielding firm like memory foam.

Old heavy feather is my favourite. Goose down etc is far too mushy.

Buckwheat sounds like what I need, something that moulds but is malleable.

Rololol · 14/02/2023 09:21

Just reading some reviews on amazon about buckwheat pillows, they sound great.
@stbrandonsboat do they make a crunchy noise? Can you refill or take out some of the buckwheat?

Buckwheat pillows have a zip so that you can remove some if you wish.
I LOVE them. Sadly they bring my scalp out in a sore itchy rash.
I wish there was a pillow that felt the same as a buckwheat but contained something different (if that makes sense).

I'm a side sleeper and I love the Panda London memory foam bamboo pillow

Spin4Gin · 14/02/2023 21:51

I have a tempur pillow and it's the best thing I have ever purchased! They come in all different shapes and softness so you can find one that's perfect for you. Expensive but worth it

HardStareBear · 14/02/2023 21:53

I love my wool pillow. It wasn't cheap but it's got a zipped outer that means that you can add or take away some of the filling to get it just right for you. I got it from The Wool Room.

AnnaMagnani · 14/02/2023 22:00

I also got the zipped pillow from The Wool Room - it's amazing and has totally helped my neck. This was after trying every pillow in store in John Lewis and sending about 4 online orders back.

However it does squish down over time and of course I don't have the wool I took out of it so need to buy some, if you get it don't throw away the left over wool!

FindingMeno · 14/02/2023 22:03

I won't ever deviate from feather pillows.

HardStareBear · 14/02/2023 22:11

@AnnaMagnani have you tried taking the filling out and pulling it apart? I find that if I tease it apart it fluffs up again pretty well.

Catnipples · 14/02/2023 22:35

I must have tried around 15 pillows over the last few years: Tempur, bamboo, John Lewis, M&S, Simba, Kuddly and have hated them all and sent them back. Or kept them and they've gone flat within weeks.

But then, after pretty much giving up all hope, I finally found the Holy Grail of Pillows: the Dorma Dream pillow from Dunelm:

www.dunelm.com/product/dorma-dream-pillow-1000171671?defaultSkuId=30692647

The best £22 I have ever spent. It is like sleeping on a cloud, holds its shape, is not too soft or too hard. I am genuinely considering stockpiling them in case they discontinue it.

Have not had a sore neck once since using it.

Mallowmarshmallow · 14/02/2023 22:48

You are my people!

I am a repeated pillow buyer. I have got a £100 tempur - hate it. And what feels like every other pillow made has been through my bed and passed on to ~way less fussy~ DH or DCs.

I recently went to Geneva and the pillows were perfect. Soft, fluffy, but deep enough to have some shape to them. I'm a front sleeper so want soft but not too flat. I want feather-like softness but not feather (I'm allergic).

DH bought me some new ones for Christmas and they're just ok. I haven't discarded them yet so that's pretty good going.

But....I dream of the Geneva pillows. I'm gutted
I didn't stash a couple in my hand luggage sized suitcase!!

Sorry, no help. Just an online monologue of my adulthood of pillow failures!

BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood · 14/02/2023 22:50

The only pillows I have found to be any good were from Bedeck and had two rows of piping on the edge so the pillows looked quite boxy. They have kept their shape well and are still bouncy.

Lelivre · 14/02/2023 22:57

Have a look at the Mackenzie Roll (cervical neck, not lumbar) to insert into your pillow slip. That might be all you need.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/02/2023 22:59

Premier inn at home ones are fab!

plump but soft while still being supportive

Oioicaptain · 14/02/2023 23:05

I love my tempur cloud pillow. So comfortable, especially for a side sleeper. Added bonus is that I never lose a pillow fight!

justasking111 · 14/02/2023 23:07

Sleep on my stomach so bash my pillow into weird shapes so I can breathe. After staying at a Marriott hotel 20 years ago. I came home and ordered Marriott pillows, they're feather and down. I bash them up every morning into big fluffy pillows. Then mangle them every night 😂

I've had the exact same issue. Gone through loads of pillows over the years.
Bought a silk filled pillow from ideal home and its really good.
Previously had down pillows which are great too, but the silk one is much better.

You can refill the buckwheat if they start to flatten. There's a slight crunchy sound, but you get used to it and it doesn't even register with me now.

Look at Groove pillow, I spent thousands trying to find the best one, was a bit more than skeptical when I bought this one for like £24 but I’m a week in and my neck and shoulders are so much better every morning. It is soft memory and shaped to give you neck support, also suitable for side sleeping

pompei8309 · 14/02/2023 23:26

Another decent one is My Pillow but it looses fullness in time
