Six adults away for a week in a fairly rural area, self catering. Roughly 7 breakfasts, 4 lunches and five dinners, plus snacks like crisps and chocolate. No alcohol.

How much would you expect to pay per person?

There’s an app called split wise which is really good, everyone puts in what they have spent and it calculates who owes who what, that might help in this situation if you end up all buying extra bits and bobs. It’s like the electronic version of labelling reciepts and adding it up at the end. Plus the app works it out for you who owes who what.
it’s a bit corporate looking but I’ve also used it for nights out with big groups etc. makes sure no one gets stung unintentionally

We use Splid which I think works the same way. It’s really useful.

Never mind asking us - ask the people you're going with if they have a budget!!

I'd just be pleased you were doing the shop. I'd give you a list of things to buy.

We're away this week and our Tesco shop came to £143 for 3 - but including wine...

People aren't reading the OP's posts...

OP, I would text them all that it could be anywhee from £30-£80 per head so you're suggesting that you spend £50 a head, and get a reply from each of them that they agree to that.

I think you are underestimating as you will only have what you bring. No alcohol then?

Badbudgeter · 13/02/2023 23:43

I'd probably go £100 per person and get nice food since you are on holiday. Lots of sliced meats and cheeses, olives, nibbly bits. Stuff for a cooked breakfast in the morning, doesn't need to be a full English scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on a bagel etc. I'd definitely email about fridge/ freezer space. I once rocked up at a holiday cottage with a full shop to find out there was an undercounter fridge with one freezer drawer and that was it

I spend a minimum of £15 a day for 4 big eaters although I always good from scratch so it's cheaper. If I were to factor in some nice extras it would be £20-25 a day for four. I'd allow a generous £7 pp, per day. That's about a £250 shop. If people want easier evening meals the price goes up for convenience.

Minimum £10 a day. Prolly more like 1£2-15 including v
biscuits and cakes and olives before dinner etc.

Is there a menu, or is that a different thread?

bumpytrumpy · 14/02/2023 08:14

From what you've said, i would be getting the money in advance. Ask them for £60/head and see who coughs up or who moans.
