Six adults away for a week in a fairly rural area, self catering. Roughly 7 breakfasts, 4 lunches and five dinners, plus snacks like crisps and chocolate. No alcohol.

How much would you expect to pay per person?

redspottedmug · 13/02/2023 21:47

£10/person/day?

holierthanthou73 · 13/02/2023 21:47

£50 each should be more than enough. Why don’t you go on a Supermarket app and (roughly) price it up. That’s what I would do anyway

Greensleevevssnotnose · 13/02/2023 21:49

Do the shop and divide by 6 ! About £120 quid each for a guess

maddy68 · 13/02/2023 21:49

Order a shop to be delivered although if I'm honest I would hate that. I would rather go to a local pub for dinner

MaverickGooseGoose · 13/02/2023 21:51

@QueenMabs I'd like it to feel like it to be a holiday! £10 ppn per day as
Per pp sounds like not fun.

fruitbrewhaha · 13/02/2023 21:55

£180 isn’t much for 6 adults. Especially as you won’t have any store cupboard/freezer items.

You’ll need nice cereal, croissants, nice bread, bacon, eggs sausages mushrooms tomatoes, coffee tea juice fruit, hot chocolate

Breads, cheeses, charcuterie, pickles, tomatoes, cucumbers, humus, dips crisps, pastries, soups

dinner could be anything really, a nice prawn/fish curry, or chicken breast tray bake, plus

Then some nice snacks, chips and dips, nuts, chocolate

PandaOrLion · 13/02/2023 21:56

Just to be clear, I am ordering a shop to be delivered, but I’m not sure on how much to get the shop to cost - I can do cheap cheese or nice cheese, desert every day or just some, nice snacks or cheap snacks etc.
Ive done it to the cheapest I can which is £30pp and now I can either add stuff/change stuff or leave it at it is. So I was curious how much people would pay to see how much to alter it.

I would think about £90 per person but it will depend on what you eat.
My breakfasts cost very little. Porridge oats and milk and sugar, £3 for the week. If lunch is just things like salad, cheeses and fresh breads they won't cost the group as much as £5 each per day. For 4 lunches and 7 breakfasts I would be expecting about £20. So it'll just depend on what you eat for dinner. Say £10 a dinner as you'll want nice ones on holiday, 5 dinners, £50. £20 on snacks.

Cascais · 13/02/2023 21:57

£100

PandaOrLion · 13/02/2023 21:58

Nearest places to eat are about 30mins drive away. I’m coeliac so the places are limited we can go to, as well as having a 3month old. Eating at home means everyone can have a drink too if they want.

£100 each

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 13/02/2023 21:59

When we do group holidays we chuck a set amount in each, it's then used for an online shop for breakfasts and evening meals.

Lunch and snacks are peoples individual responsibility to bring.

I'd say £45 a head into a kitty, would get you the funds for hearty family style meals (eg chilli and nachos, a lasagne etc), and cereals bacon and eggs and bread for toast.

PandaOrLion · 13/02/2023 21:44

Needs to include washing up stuff and toilet roll.

Tell everyone to bring one loo roll each with them.

Those with dishwashers can chuck a couple of dishwasher tablets in their bag from home.

Quitelikeit · 13/02/2023 22:02

£30 for a weeks worth of food is nothing! And surely on a holiday you’d want to treat yourselves a wee bit!

id say £50pp but I would ask first incase you somehow end up out of pocket

HundredMilesAnHour · 13/02/2023 22:02

I'd think £120 each. But it depends if you're including bottled water (some people won't drink tap water and if its hot, that's a lot of water) and alcohol. In which case more £££.

Sodullincomparison · 13/02/2023 22:03

does it include alcohol in the shop?

I’d say £100 per person. It’s only £20 per person for five days.

I’ve got to ask. Why are you asking strangers on line and not actually asking rhe people involved their budget? That’s such a weird thing to do.

I did.

“oh I don’t know, anything is fine”. “Ask xyz what they can afford”. Etc etc

30 pounds sounds unbelievably miserable spending for several meals for a holiday

fruitbrewhaha · 13/02/2023 22:12

You know your friends OP. It’s a holiday, I’d be disappointed to eat cheap bread and cheese and a bit a cereal. I’d want something fancier than what I eat at home. Naturally something easy that doesn’t mean someone speaks la the evening cooking (unless they are keen).

You could suggest each couple tells you a meal they will cook.

maddy68 · 13/02/2023 22:13

You need wine and a takeaway budget or a pub food it's bloody miserable cooking every night you are on holiday!

maddy68 · 13/02/2023 22:13

Take spag bol for the first night and take it from there

echt · 13/02/2023 22:14

Start a kitty at £50 each, held by one person, then review on day 3.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 13/02/2023 22:15

I’d have no problem with a budget of £100 / £150.

2023gulp · 13/02/2023 22:17

£100 including wine and plenty of treats
