First time in a pub with a band for around a year, at least.

I got knocked so many times and my drink spilt. I got my foot trodden on. I was squashed. Very crowded. Too busy. Trying to hold drink and handbag & dance at same time was near on impossible.

Never ever again. Trouble is, my friends love it

Anyone else relate?

45 and love a band but must be seated!! I can’t stand for long. Not a fan of crowds anymore. Not a fan of drunk people falling on me and spilling things. I don’t drink but I can be last one sitting!!

Late 50s here. I was in a packed pub on Saturday night. Live band. Dancing. Brilliant night. What’s wrong with you lot???

@WrendaleCountryDogs

lol good one!

NOONE has only ever been to TC pubs and that’s it! Like no one!

🤣

Apart from me. I have honestly never been to a "pub". I've been to toby carvery, harvester, hungry horse. I've never been in a normal pub nor have I been in a non-chain or expensive restaurant.

Titsywoo · 13/02/2023 20:51

I much prefer going to friends houses for drinks and/or dinner now. For very close friends I often go in my PJs. We still have a great laugh but I am cosy and in a comfortable environment. We sometimes go to the pub or out for dinner too but bars and clubs? Not a hope. Doesn't even sound slightly fun. I've never been into live music gigs. I barely drink anymore anyway and can't bear standing up all night. It's not because I'm 'old' - I'm only 44 - I'm just at the point where I only do things I really want to do. Not sure I ever enjoyed the bars and clubs - well I did but if I had been sober I wouldn't have. I've always liked a cosy pub with regulars that I know.

For those who used to like dance music back in the 90s I would recommend the new 'classical' events where they play dance music on a full orchestra.

You can sit down. Bliss.
They start about 7pm. Bliss
They finish about 10pm so you can be home in time for a cup of cocoa by 11pm. Bliss.

There's hacienda, Pete tong and other ones playing specific bands eg oasis.

Perfect for the likes of us!

GreyCarpet · 13/02/2023 21:03

I'm late 40s and my boyfriend is nearly 60. We still go out every weekend to see a live band. Last weekend, I managed 4 bands in one weekend. I have a couple (2 or 3) beers but don't get drunk.

I'm not really sure why some people see not doing is as a virtue. It kind of leaves me wondering what other people do for fun...

namechangeforthisbleep · 13/02/2023 21:05

I flipping love it. I do need to grow up tho

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/02/2023 21:08

@GreyCarpet I don't think it's that some peeople see not doing it as a "virtue". It's more people commenting on how different they feel about it now they've got a bit older. There's no juding about whether its a good thing or a bad thing.

Why not, @WrendaleCountryDogs ? Joking aside, have you never wanted to experience sitting by a fire in a cozy country pub or having a lovely meal out?

Iwantabloodypizza · 13/02/2023 22:20

Is this why I find it so hard to find people to make friends with?

I’m 43. Fuck the hot coco and being in bed at 10pm. I want to live!

But everyone I meet just wants to sit in as they joke they are past it now.

I’ve got a toddler, so I have recently met some people at toddler groups but where I have moved to, it’s all much younger mums. They are nice but they are mostly 20 years younger than me - almost the same age as my eldest so I don’t have much in common with them.

Where are all the other 40 plus women who want to go out still? I’ve not been out in years, I feel like life is passing me by, it makes me so bloody sad.

There’s a long time to sit in your pyjamas with a cup of tea when you are actually old!

Another one here who prefers to go out in an afternoon, it’s quieter, you always get a seat, you can drink and eat as much as you want in a far more civilised environment and then still be home and in bed before 9pm

Sounds perfect 👌

I just always need a place to sit and heels are for looking decorative while sitting. I'm only 33!

Hilarious!! Have not seen this vid before and have just posted it on Facebook and sent it to my daughter who was 55 on Saturday...Me? I'm 75 this year so waaaaaay waaaaaaaaaaaaaay past any of that!!!

I agree with that. I started going out again in my early 40s and my children were old enough to stay home alone occasionally.

I had no idea where the other 40 somethings were to be found - all at home with children/families still I think.

I just went out in my own, met people and now most of my friends are 10/15 years older than me.

Stewball01 · 14/02/2023 06:27

I hate going out and to a pub or club? 😳
Hell on earth. I don't drink any more. Take me to a nice restaurant with good food and I'll be delighted.

GettingStuffed · 14/02/2023 07:21

I haven't been out like that for about 15 years and that was to support a colleague. One of our party had an allergic reaction to the beer and although he was sober he had to be helped off the bus home.

I now prefer micropubs, no room for a band

Ginburee · 14/02/2023 09:05

I never liked it and much prefer to snuggle in my pyjamas with the children and husband and watch Dr Who.
Post pandemic I am even more anti social than I used to be.

TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2023 10:13

Tbh I’m not mad about pubs with bands for many of the reasons you describe, noisy and jostling for space with drinks spilling, people stepping on your feet etc.
But I do still love a night out every now and again. I’m 38 not 98! Even my grandfather at 88 wasn’t in every night cosy in pjs by 7 😂
I’m quite sociable though; meet up with various friends one night a week to either have dinner, go to the pub, go to a gig, a trip somewhere. I do also enjoy a day drink where you can be home early and not waste the whole following day hungover. I do also drink a lot less now that I get hangovers from hell so even on a night out I don’t tend to drink loads (I do have a big blowout a couple of times a year!) but essentially no, I can’t relate to living a life where I’d rather be indoors every night sitting on a sofa with dh, there’s way more to life for me. And 7 nights in a week. Losing one to a social life is not a hardship.

Kithulu · 15/02/2023 15:09

Don't take a drink onto the dance floor - very bad form
