Have you donated anything to Syria or Turkey

Obviously money. It's so sad seeing them suffer. We did it for Ukraine. Why can't we help Turkey/Syria? A lot of people around me don't really care and it's heartbreaking.

Yes, was happy to donate to the White Helmets.

Safeworkspace · 08/02/2023 21:07

Just about to, was waiting for the DEC appeal to go live, presume it has? I always donate when something dreadful happens, man made or natural, just awful.

BCBird · 08/02/2023 21:09

Yes. Red Cross

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/02/2023 21:12

I came here tonight to find out who to donate to on the ground now

the clip of the sister shielding her brother broke my heart

MoneyInTheBananaStand · 08/02/2023 21:16

I have a monthly DD to MSF but I donated again this morning and I gave £100 to the white helmets in Syria.

I've spammed my social media with the DEC appeal as that came out this afternoon - UK government match funding so it's always worth putting a few quid in.

2023newyearnewname · 08/02/2023 21:17

I used to donate to the British Red Cross but apparently it offended some people so they changed the name to crescent.... what the heck... take the money when offered and use for the good of all.

Ukraine is fighting an illegal invasion and Syria and Turkey a natural disaster and in both people have died. Both are tragic. Both need help equally.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 08/02/2023 21:23

Yes. I have a substantial standing monthly donation to the International Rescue Committee and have done for years. I did fieldwork for my degree in Syria in 2007, and have always been heartbroken about what's become of such a wonderful country, hence the donation.

BishyBarnyBee · 08/02/2023 21:26

Yes, more than I usually do for charity appeals, it is heartbreaking.

RandomMess · 08/02/2023 21:27

Yes of course. Its desperately sad.

Rowthe · 08/02/2023 21:30

I'm going to.
Dec

neversocks · 08/02/2023 21:35

Yes, I donated to Doctors without Borders on Monday.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/02/2023 21:36

Yes, Red Cross.

Rowthe · 08/02/2023 21:36

Want to go via the DEC because the amount you donate is matched by the government up to a max of 5 million

SirenSays · 08/02/2023 21:36

The videos coming out are heartbreaking. I've supported the white helmets for a while but have increased my donation for this.

tothelefttotheleft · 08/02/2023 21:39

Not money but other items that were requested as needed.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/02/2023 21:39

Yes, via DEC.

minmooch · 08/02/2023 21:40

Yes via Red Cross

Red cross and red crescent are sister organisations who merged in 1983. It’s nothing to do with someone being offended.

Many peoples economic situation will be worse than a year ago

some people will feel that Turkish / sirian are not like us… they’re not as white and blonde iyswim.

the impact of the war is bigger in numbers as well.

piedbeauty · 08/02/2023 21:42

Yes, via Christian Aid

EasterIssland · 08/02/2023 21:45

Glad to see many of you are donating to Syria. I fear many will directly donate to turkey and forget the other country once again who most likely is in a more vulnerable position

in my company two links were shared one for a Turkish organization and the other one the Red Cross I decided to donate to the Red Cross as the money was for both countries

HairyToity · 08/02/2023 21:45

I will donate after pay day next week.

Purplemist · 08/02/2023 21:46

Yes, donated to Red Cross.

WonderingWanda · 08/02/2023 21:46

Yes last night, the DEC hadn't set up their appeal then so I donated to the Red Cross.

Figgygal · 08/02/2023 21:47

Off to donate to DEC now
