What time does your Yr7 child go to bed?

Randomuser9876 · 07/02/2023 21:32

I think dd who's in Yr7 should be in her room quietly from 9 (reading or TV) to be asleep by 10.

She acts like this is totally unreasonable and runs around the house bags or on calls with friends until at least 10.

She gets up at 7.15 for school and is a bit of a duracel bunny type but does often say she's tired and is pretty grumpy.

Shall I get harder on bedtime or is that unreasonably early? What time are your dc in bed?

Upstairs at 8, lights out at 9. An hour later on school nights and holidays. 11pm if a sleepover.

Chihuahuasrule · 07/02/2023 21:36

9.30-10pm

CatOnTheChair · 07/02/2023 21:36

Almost identical to 3WildOnes.
Upstairs around 8. No fixed time for lights off, but his room is usually in darkness by 9.
Often awake at 6.30. Alarm at 7 if not reading already by then.
Judging from the beeping of kids mobile phones behind my head right now, most kids stay up later.

My DD in year 7 was lights out by 8.30pm every night, even weekends. She was the anomaly among her friends though. She's year 11 now and has gone to bed at 9pm tonight, but we don't have a massively set bedtime for her anymore. It is always between 9 and 10pm though and no electronics allowed in her room.

DeathMetalMum · 07/02/2023 21:41

8.30 here. We don't do 'lights out' as she normally turns her light off herself at 9. Up at 6.30 to leave about 7.20. I have to wake her about 50% of the time. Others are up later, as I hear her phone throughout the evening (it's kept downstairs).

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 07/02/2023 21:41

Mine goes up at 9pm and then is asleep by 10. Later at weekends when he can have a lie in the next day but he’s normally asleep by 11 and up at 9 then.

pinkberet · 07/02/2023 21:55

Mine is year 5 and I think you are reasonable OP
He goes up to bed for 8 lights off at half past. In two years time we will probably move to 9 upstairs and 9:30 lights off.

DialsMavis · 07/02/2023 22:01

I like DD to be in bed by 9 & lights out about 9.30 pm but she usually has other ideas and is just out of the shower and getting into bed now. She is after a Horlicks but that is 100% not happening.

Beecham · 07/02/2023 22:04

9pm latest - but that's with a 6.30 alarm

Phones are set to automatically lock at 7.30 so there's no screens before bed.

monty09 · 07/02/2023 22:05

In my house screens go off at 8.30 we have family link on there phones so can set a time, then the 2 youngest go up at 9 lights out then 9.30 for the 12&13 year old and 10 for my 15 year old.
We change the time of the weekend and holidays.

MissWings · 07/02/2023 22:06

My year 8 son has a weekday 9:30pm bedtime.

TokyoSushi · 07/02/2023 22:09

9:30pm ish here with a 7:15am wake up.

LostMyMarblesToday · 07/02/2023 22:10

@Randomuser9876 sounds just like my DS. Goes to bed just after 10, up at 7.
I've tried to get him to sleep earlier but it doesn't work. However talking to my dm, she reminded me how my siblings and I were the same. Guess he's got it from me 😂

DementedPanda · 07/02/2023 22:11

My yr8 plays online with his friends after training, homework etc. He comes and asks me to tuck him in and 9pm. He's sensible tho, up at 7, washed dressed and out the door for school ay 7.45. (School does amazing pizza bagels for breakfast apparently)

Yr 6 child.... I'd put him to bed a 6pm and he still wouldn't want to get up for school 🙄

Ponderingwindow · 07/02/2023 22:11

We turned off phone at 8:30 at the start of year 7, but eventually acquiesced to 9:30 because 8:30 was very limiting. She is allowed to read as late as she wants though we encourage her to try to get enough sleep. (Forcing the issue doesn’t help, she has anxiety and setting a strict bedtime with a hard lights out means it takes her longer to fall asleep)

Hedonism · 07/02/2023 22:20

Somewhere between 9 and 10 usually.

I'm intrigued, why an hour later for school nights and holidays? I always send mine earlier on a school night than in the holidays. Is lights out at 9 weekends only?

My head spins!

JamNittyGritty · 07/02/2023 22:41

I like up at 9, lights out by 9.30 but it’s usually half an hour later, she’s a night owl so even that can be a challenge. Up at 7 & has to be woken about half the time. Weekends are freer .

rattlinbog · 07/02/2023 22:42

@nxa probably just a typo?

Foronenightonly22 · 07/02/2023 22:52

What age is Year 7?

MyMachineAndMe · 07/02/2023 23:11

Up to bed at 9.45 and then be quiet from 10.15. He's still awake and pottering about his room now but he's quiet. He gets up at 7 on school days.

He has adhd though so doesn't sleep much.

Youwhatnowbiggles · 07/02/2023 23:18

@Foronenightonly22 yr 7 is 11/12 year olds. Mine goes up 8:45/9ish, lights out 9:15, get up at 7:15.

InvincibleInvisibility · 07/02/2023 23:27

In bed around 7.30pm reading. Lights out at 8.10pm. Up at 5.45am for school (which starts at 7.30am, not UK). So roughly 9 to 9 1/2 hours sleep.

Lights out at 9.30pm on Tuesdays and Fridays cos of sports training.

We only change bedtimes by 30 minutes max at the weekends and 60 minutes max on holiday. Cos I have 2 with ADHD who get up early no matter what. My year 7 often wakes in the night. And 3 of us get migraines so regular bedtimes and getting up times are very important.

I meant an hour later on weekends and holidays. Whoops! So lights out at 9pm on school nights and 10pm weekends and holidays. 11pm sleep overs.

Everybodywants · 08/02/2023 13:20

In bed for 8.30pm and lights off for 9. Usually straight to sleep but still struggles getting up every morning for 7, it's a real battle.

Not enforced on Friday/Saturday nights
