Where to eat in Bristol center

Love Bristol but haven't been for many years; have a weekend away booked soon with DH and two DC (11 and 6). We are reasonably adventurous eaters - not so much fussy Michelin food but certainly different cuisines. Any recommendations??

Riverstation, Izakaya or Urban Tandoor

For lunchtime street food you could try st nicholas market. Also round the back of the Mshed is interesting with various options

Little French, amazing food!!

Whoknowswhere · 06/02/2023 12:18

I’d probably head to Cargo and go for Cargo Cantina or Berthas for pizza

Little French is delicious but not central and probably a bit rich for a 6yo.

I really think it’s worth the trip out of the centre, my 5yr old nephew loved it!! Also had a 1yr old and a 13yr old and 5 adults and they were so welcoming with the children. Keep meaning to go back!

I will make a note and check these out. We have probably got two dinners and two lunches (and maybe even breakfast) so a good chance to try a few places.

I love street food but tricky in this weather - the little one would find it awkward to eat in all her winter gear I think. DH doesn't like pizza 🙃. The 6 year old absolutely LOVES beef bourguignon so French would definitely work but not sure travelling out of the city will work with the rest of our itinerary.

Paco Tapas! I've been there twice in the past year and already can't wait to go again. It is a bit pricey but worth it.

Could go to cosmo - top of park street so pretty central and it’s a buffet with lots of different options.

ReviewingTheSituation · 06/02/2023 12:31

The cargo containers behind MShed. We were there a couple of weeks ago - so many different places to choose from! And lots of them have good eating-in options, so no standing around in the cold.

Also lots of cafes etc down Park St.

7 lucky Gods by Mshed

Most pizza places are pretty good, San Carlo if you like posh italian. There are some really good West Indian in st Pauls, come out of Cabot Circus and cross the road.

Racks in Clifton does an amazing Sunday lunch and it’s v near the bridge and observatory so a great place for a stroll.

Yep it's good for the kids as they can choose a bit of everything.

St Nick's market is a good suggestion for lunchtime food - lots of choice and places to sit undercover. On a sunny day Wapping Wharf/Cargo (just round the corner from MShed and along the harbourside from the SS Great Britain) is also good, with plenty of options. Also on the water is Mud Dock (good for lunch/brunch).

At that sort of age my DC enjoyed Zaza Bazaar, a huge, noisy all-you-can-eat buffet place on the waterfront, with multiple cuisines and dessert stations - definitely not haute cuisine but an experience.

If you get a chance, try the ice cream at Swoon, on College Green - best in Bristol, and Pizzarova near there does very good pizza.

If your children really are quite adventurous, my favourite slightly-tucked-away place is Suyuan, a little vegetarian Chinese restaurant just off Queen Square. Good dumplings, pancakes and noodles, and some quite spicy main dishes that might appeal more to adults.

I would just add, probably avoid Klösterhaus. We went thinking maybe they'd managed to do an interesting twist on Schnitzel/ other German/Austrian food.

They had....not done that. It was just really expensive Schnitzel in an oddly formal room at a stupid price point. I believe they are about to close!

We popped into loads of small places doing Asian food from every bit of the continent and didn't have one bad experience. Kinda indoor street food.

That's really interesting, when I went to Klosterhaus the food was really excellent with some lovely unusual wines. We're planning to go again soon.

Under The Stars is great fun - lovely tapas on a boat, and excellent service.

BrieAndChilli · 06/02/2023 13:08

my kids love ZaZa bazaar. Food is nice but isnt finde dining.

Iy has all sort so different cuisnes around various buffet stations, some is help yourself and others have chefs there cooking bits to order for you. mine love it as can mix tex mex with indian witih chinese with whatever else and can keep going up for more and try a little of everything including the chocolate fountain!

I'm a foodie and love eating at nice restaurants... I had the best steak I've ever eaten at Giuseppes in Bristol!

Any of the Bianchis restaurants. They are all amazing.

YesitsBess · 06/02/2023 13:56

@CalistoNoSolo you'll have trouble getting a table again. Looks like they closed 5th Jan with no warning the staff.

Oh that's a shame but thanks for letting me know 🙂

It's not the centre but the Sundial kitchen in Totterdown is awesome for breakfast/lunch
They are great with kids & dogs and really welcoming and portions are really generous.
Its vegetarian but not that you'd know it. Lovely cake too
