Can anyone recommend a Catholic school in the south of England?

Looking for a secondary school for my DS - he needs good teaching and good behaviour but not too much pressure. Somewhere nurturing, non-selective and ideally Catholic. Could be anywhere in the south of England as we’re planning to move. Any recommendations?

Independent school?

We would prefer state @Roundlampshade

Trinity in Woodford is a well regarded catholic school

there’s also Davenant Foundation School in Loughton, Essex

St Edmunds Catholic school in Portsmouth. Great school, has outstanding Ofsted.

There is one in Weybridge - think it's called St George's. Meant to be good, although I have no experience of it myself

St Peter's in Gloucester (state)
St Edward's in Cheltenham (independent)

Oh sorry, I think it's selective

The Times comprehensive school of the year this year was St Peter's in Guildford. Last year it was St Andrew’s in Leatherhead. Both are Catholic schools.

This is really helpful. Does anyone have any particularly good experiences they can share? I will check out the Times report

St Joseph's College in Reading. It's independent, but very affordable and down to earth, and a lovely school

Have a child at St Edmunds in Portsmouth. He’s very quirky and I thought he’d have an awful time at secondary school. He’s really happy and has a solid friendship group. The teachers are lovely: friendly and supportive. Has really good exam results. Southsea is a great place to live. Highly recommend!

Thank you 😊

A lot of the highest rated secondaries in Surrey are Catholic. www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/best-secondary-schools-ofsted-outstanding-23277905

Slitherin · 04/02/2023 21:57

@LimeTreeGrove I know those schools get great results but worry a bit about whether they do that by stressing the kids out

I'm sorry but I have to disagree... have been mugged twice going to pick my son up - one of those times it turned out it was his teacher! Shock

St Wilfred's in Crawley

Do you not need to narrow down your criteria a bit more than just a good Catholic school in the ‘south’?

You want a city, rural, seaside area? Commutable for work, transport links etc.?
There’s huge variation in cost across the South.

Be aware Ofsted rating change frequently so I wouldn’t move just for a state school.

You were mugged by your son's teacher? How very peculiar.

St John the Baptist, Woking.
My grandson's primary school is a feeder for it so no personal experience for it yet but son's neighbours speak highly of it.
