What do you disagree with the internet/ rest of the world on? Mine is Going to bed with wet hair

Every time I've ever gone to bed without drying my hair properly (or walked around with wet hair for longer than about 20 minutes) I have had a bad cold or sore throat the next day!
When I looked it up online, everything pretty much said no, it won't make you have a cold, but might cause a stiff neck. I know the answer is, just dry your hair properly, but I can't always- it's really thick and takes SOOOO LONG! It can't be a coincidence- wet hair gives me a cold!
So anyway, anyone want to tell me what they disagree with the internet about?

You don't catch a cold if you go outside skimpily dressed

Experience tells me I always end up sick if I go out in the cold with no coat

CandlelightGlow · 02/02/2023 21:15

That you can't have pregnancy symptoms in your 2WW. I absolutely had symptoms but at the time whenever I read about it on forums people would insist your symptoms weren't pregnancy symptoms because it was too early!

@Veryverycalmnow - I have the same challenge as you! In fact if I leave my hair wet (without drying with a hair dryer) for more than 5-7 minutes, I get a headache. So many others just wash hair and air dry it but I've never been able to. Wonder if I have a thin scalp or something and the water gets inside Grin

I’ve woken up with awful cramp in my leg on the odd occasion I’ve gone to bed with wet hair!

Everyone insists the flu jab doesn’t make you unwell and if you are unwell following it, it’s a coincidence. I know so many people who have been quite knocked for six by it!

Veryverycalmnow · 02/02/2023 21:39

Thanks for making me feel better while I sit here with a coldSmile

I have long thick hair and a Dyson dried my hair in less than half the time of any other hair dryer I’ve bought and I’ve bought most!

If away from home I dry my hair as much as possible but put it in two long plaits like a squaw and that works well as it’s still slightly damp in the morning but not uncomfortably so.

Shesasuperfreak · 02/02/2023 21:44

Leaving your heating on low all day is cheaper than 15 min hot blasts throughout the day.

My gas bill is very, very low. I turn the heating on for 15 min in the morning, 15 min when we get in from school and work and maybe once more, but often not, and thats it.

It heats everywhere and holds for hours. As it gets colder we wrap up, but its never freezing.

Heating on all day gives me a headache too.

Judellie · 02/02/2023 21:46

You don't get cold from being cold. Yes you do, if there's a draught making the house cold from door open or whatever and it's cold, I start sneezing. Sure that's why it's called a cold actually, because it's caught from being cold.

Shesasuperfreak · 02/02/2023 21:49

My hair is curly and it dries beautifully if I sleep with it wet. The ringlets that form from being compressed on the pillow are better than letting it dry in the day.

I have never been sick from going to bed with wet hair, but I never use a hairdryer so it must be something I'm used to from a young are.

My husband however, will not leave the house if he has had a bath as he says when the wind hits him he gets sick. He grew up in a hot country.
So will only have short showers in the day time. A bath is a special occasion.

I never blow dry my below the shoulder hair and often go to bed with it wet, no ill effects and no musty pillows.

Mine is silk pillowcases, MN loves them, I found they made no difference to hair or skin and feel weird and slippery, cotton every time for me.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 02/02/2023 21:55

@Veryverycalmnow - I am the same as you. Wet hair in bed, get sick the next day. Cold feet, get sick, etc etc.

Then I remember reading that the number of people who have been exposed to viruses and have it in their system is like an iceberg. The number of people who get sick from it under normal conditions is like the tip of the iceberg visible above the water. All the people who have been exposed and have the germ/virus/lurgy sitting in them waiting opportunistically to attack is like the submerged part of the iceberg, far greater in number than those who are actually sick. I think we're those who have the virus lurking about waiting to pounce.....

The flu jab can make you feel unwell, and may cause flu-like symptoms. That's quite normal, and I thought most people knew that?

Wearing glasses makes your eyes worse as they rely on them.
In my experience it’s so true

The Dyson hair dryer is a god send. My hair takes sooo long to dry with a regular hairdryer.

I tend to do the same with plaits when away from home as well.

I have to say, I’ve never suffered any ill effects from going to bed with wet hair (other than it looking like a birds nest in the morning) 🤔

I've tried the plaits and I woke up with a cold! Thanks for the Dyson tip off though.

I like the iceberg idea. Sounds right.

Do you not wake up looking like Worzel Gummidge? I would.

XenoBitch · 02/02/2023 22:27

That shaving hair makes it grow back thicker.

I definitely had symptoms in my TWW. I documented them because DH thought I was imagining it. That imagination was DD....

Kalpatra · 02/02/2023 22:47

Definitely the cold one! I get so irritated with people saying you can’t catch a cold from being cold. Does experience count for nothing?

The ither one is the i ternet says never take medical advice from the internet, see your GP instead. But my GP is disinterested and misdiagnoses while the internet has given me some really useful insight and advice.
