Best west end show for ds and I?

DS3 is going to be 9 soon and I’d like to take him to one of the big shows in London. We’ve seen The Lion King when it was on tour and loved that. He’s a very feely type and as well as the spectacle of musical theatre I know he’d love something with a bit more of an emotional pull.

Any recommendations?

Wicked is very good, amazing stage set's and has an emotional pull but it's not that deep...

Wallabyone · 02/02/2023 14:12

Has he read Harry Potter? I took my ten year old to see both Cursed Child shows and we both loved them.

Workbaseddrama · 02/02/2023 14:13

Matilda might be up his street if you've seen lion king

That's a long day. Even as an adult I was drained from seeing both parts in one go

Trisolaris · 02/02/2023 14:14

I’d say Matilda with that brief

Commonsensitivity · 02/02/2023 14:15

Following as we will be in London in April

My DS loved Back to the Future. I didn't go with him so can't comment but he raved about it and it has won loads of awards. Also second Matilda.

Catharticvheesetoastie · 02/02/2023 14:18

My sons didn’t enjoy Wicked particularly but loved Lion King and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ( only on tour now I believe)

others of the old classics that would have the pull - Phantom of the Opera and Cats

ChicCroissant · 02/02/2023 14:19

I felt quite emotional during Wicked (defying gravity) so I'd recommend that, but I see lots of recommendations here for Matilda which I haven't seen so can't really compare.

Chiasmi · 02/02/2023 14:26

Matilda. Ideal at this age.

Shampern · 02/02/2023 14:36

Matilda.

VenusClapTrap · 02/02/2023 14:42

Ds(10) chose Hamilton for his birthday last year and absolutely loved it. He wants to see Les Mis this year - trying to decide if it’s too adult!

1099 · 02/02/2023 14:44

I'd say Matilda, went with DS last year sometime, he is older but enjoyed it.

user1477249785 · 02/02/2023 14:44

Definitely Mathilda. We didn't love wicked

Bigminnie1 · 02/02/2023 14:45

Matilda or Six.

Floofyduffypuddy · 02/02/2023 14:47

@Workbaseddrama

What is the harry'potter 2 parts things? Do you have to buy two tickets?

cheeseisthebest · 02/02/2023 14:47

Hamilton not suitable for that age, also very long, definitely Matilda.

Looneytune253 · 02/02/2023 14:53

Back to the future is immense

KeithBurtons · 02/02/2023 15:07

He has read or listened to most HP and loved it so that’s on the shortlist, thank you 😊

Along with Matilda and if Charlie and the Chocolate factory is touring near us then that too. I don’t think he’s aware of the Wizard of Oz so maybe not Wicked (but will surreptitiously sound him out).

Phantom was my first thought as he has loved some of the songs when he’s heard them but not sure if it’s a bit too grown up- not necessarily in terms of theme but more the fact that it’s a love story? It would prob make him roll his eyes 😂

I didn’t even know back to the future had been adapted for stage! My mind is boggling at how it works!

Yes, you do. Afternoon is pt 1 and evening pt 2. You, obviously, can do different days but my friend and I decided we'd binge as we have to travel 2 hrs.

Yes. It's 1 story over 2 plays. You either do it all in one day (needs a lot of stamina) or you can do part 1 and part 2 over different days

Floofyduffypuddy · 02/02/2023 15:25

@Workbaseddrama .. thanks but you have to buy tickets for both shows or one tickets covered both?

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 02/02/2023 15:26

Frozen was a surprisingly big hit for mine. Matilda is just great, too.

gogohmm · 02/02/2023 15:30

Matilda is great. Mine saw les miserables at that age and loved it, also saw the operas turandot and die fledermaus
