So when you answer a call and the person says ‘Hello can I please speak to your name?’

How do you respond..
‘This is she’
‘Yes that’s me’
‘yes speaking’

etc

Speaking

ModerationInEverything · 30/01/2023 17:29

I say, can I ask who's calling please? So I can decide if I want to speak to them or not

AnonWeeMouse · 30/01/2023 17:31

"who's calling?"

"Gary From BT Internet, we have detected a fault on your computer"

"Fuck off Gary"

mummaontheskoolrun · 30/01/2023 17:31

" who am I speaking to please? "

SummerInSun · 30/01/2023 17:32

Yes, speaking. But doesn't happen because I answer the phone by saying my name (unless the callers name pops up and I'm answering with "hi Kate" or "hi mum" or whatever).

RoseslnTheHospital · 30/01/2023 17:33

"Yes, speaking" as I normally don't give my name on picking up when I don't recognise the number or there's no caller ID.

largeprintagathachristie · 30/01/2023 17:33

I seem to say, "yes, speaking"

ginslinger · 30/01/2023 17:33

yes, speaking

OldTinHat · 30/01/2023 17:34

Who is calling please?

Then I decide whether or not I'm available to take the call!

largeprintagathachristie · 30/01/2023 17:34

Yes speaking looks very odd written down, doesn't it.

coffeeginandkindness · 30/01/2023 17:34

I wouldn't say this is she
I think the Americans do

PennyToffee · 30/01/2023 17:36

Who is calling please? Before I decide if I'm me or not.

bigbluebus · 30/01/2023 17:37

I always ask who's calling without committing to telling them it's me.

SauMore · 30/01/2023 17:39

Yes speaking

FatSealSmugSoup · 30/01/2023 17:39

Speaking. Don’t say “yes” speaking as they can cut the audio to make it sound like you said yes to whichever scam they’re calling about.

Better still, don’t answer. No good ever comes from accepting phone calls.

ReamsOfCheese · 30/01/2023 17:41

I say "this is she" even though it's an Americanism because I have no idea how else to respond when someone rings my personal mobile and asks to speak to me rather than the more useful, "Hi is that ReamsOfCheese?"

FourTeaFallOut · 30/01/2023 17:43

I'm in the, "Yes, speaking" club.

Hellamegafuckup · 30/01/2023 17:45

I say no she isn't here sorry. But then my son the other day shouted don't you listen to anything that is your name. Hes only 6 so I will try to let it go😂

Unescorted · 30/01/2023 17:46

Depends who they ask for... Real name - sorry you have the wrong number. Name only friends / people who I want to speak to know - speaking.

PriamFarrl · 30/01/2023 17:48

Always ‘speaking’.
Never ‘this is she’, which is perfectly ordinary in America but sounds so odd to my ears.

Tamarindtree · 30/01/2023 17:48

OldTinHat · 30/01/2023 17:34

Who is calling please?

Then I decide whether or not I'm available to take the call!

That’s what I say if there is no caller ID.

fatsinglereadytomingle · 30/01/2023 17:49

Who's calling if it's cold caller

Speaking of its a call I'm expecting from a company like bank etc

unsync · 30/01/2023 17:56

I don't answer if I don't know who it is. If it is important they can leave a message.

larchforest · 30/01/2023 17:59

How I answer depends on whether I think they are reading from a pre-written script or not.

BooksAndHooks · 30/01/2023 18:01

I don’t say anything g, I only answer if I know who is calling. If it’s a genuine caller they’ll leave a message. The majority are spam.
