Pappilon - we like this little Italian restaurant in Bruntsfield.

Purplecatshopaholic · 29/01/2023 12:02

Emma has given some great classic choices there. Re food, the restaurant in Harvey Nics has great views and nice food. Scran and Scallie in Stockbridge is one of my faves too. If you like Indian then Dishoom in St Andrews Square is lovely. Cafe Royal is a classic. Hamiltons in Stockbridge is great. If you want Michelin star, The Kitchin in Leith.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 29/01/2023 13:45

The Witchery is great for atmosphere

I love Howies for modern Scottish food

Hendersons if you're Vegetarian

Kyloe for steak if you're not

Valvona and Crolla for lovely deli bits

I miss Edinburgh. Try to go at least once a year but haven't been able to for a while.

midsomermurderess · 29/01/2023 15:16

All the usual suspects have been mentioned. I don’t know anyone living in Edinburgh who has been to the Royal Yacht, but, tourism must. Ting Thai Caravan at Teviot Place, just by the university, does really good food if Thai is your thing. Mother India, quite nearby, does excellent small plates, never fails to be good.

Lillipops · 29/01/2023 15:24

If you like gin the Edinburgh Gin experience is brilliant 🤩

I have! Wouldn’t have been my choice but I had visitors who wanted to go and it was actually quite interesting. It’s just a shame that ocean terminal has gone so downhill in the last couple of years, it’s like a ghost town with barely any shops still open.

midsomermurderess · 29/01/2023 15:42

The plan seems to be to redevelop Ocean Terminal. Pull down the car park and put more housing in there and redevelop the rest with new shops, some kind of green space and cycle paths and walkways to better integrate the place with the rest of the area. It’s bloody dire now. I only go there for the cinema. And the new housing development opposite is dispiriting. It could have been dropped in from Manchester or somewhere.

viques · 29/01/2023 15:43

Pandas.

emmathedilemma · 29/01/2023 16:14

I’d say that’s insulting to Manchester’s housing stock @midsomermurderess 🤣

It's just me and my partner going (we are both 30s) and we are going for 3 nights :)

Following!

emmathedilemma · 31/01/2023 12:09

You've only got 3 days, how many more suggestions do you need?? ;) There's half a tourist information office in the list above!
My main suggestion would be to bring comfortable shoes. It's a hilly city with bad pavements and its fair share of cobbles.
The list of potential restaurants is endless unless you give us a preference for type of cuisine, where you're staying (so you're not traipsing across town for dinner) and budget.

BooksAndHooks · 31/01/2023 12:16

Second the tip about shoes. We went in October and all ended up having to buy extra shoes. The pavements are the worst I’ve ever come across, which surprised me in such a high tourist area.

Everything we did has already been mentioned but there is lots to see and do. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

We eat pretty much everything except sushi/Japanese style food. And maybe somewhere that may have vegan options.

veganedinburgh.com/
David Banns is vegetarian and offers vegan options. The food is lovely and of a style that meat eaters won't miss the meat.

FluffyYucca · 31/01/2023 14:31

We liked Bonnie & Wild bonnieandwildmarket.com

nicky2512 · 31/01/2023 14:33

Oh I’m so sad to hear that about Ocean Terminal! We used to stay at the hotel that was beside it (Holiday inn possibly?) when the kids were small. Haven’t been for years but have lovely memories of eating and shopping there - dd’s first build a bear, a ukulele and much loved Paddington books were all bought there (long time ago!).

FakedAlaska · 31/01/2023 14:36

Heya, I'm close by to EDI and in a few networks / womens groups. There is a fantastic network called Egg.... fab for finding ideas (used for finding nice coffee/ lunch places) etc. www.weareegg.co.uk/

Have a wonderful time.

MorrisZapp · 31/01/2023 14:38

Bonnie and Wild is brilliant!

If you can afford the Kimpton hotel, you will be in heaven.
