I like watching things like NCIS.

Over the years, I’ve heard the phrase watch your six and just let it fly over my head expecting not to understand it.

Literally the other day, it suddenly occurred to me…it means watch your back!!

Of course it does!

I’ve been binge watching Couples Come Dine With Me on Netflix. (Don’t ask) and at the start of every episode, Dave Lamb says:

“Take 3 couples, who love to cook…”

It’s the same on the singles one two:

“Take 5 people, who love to cook…”

It’s always gone by me without any thought. Until yesterday I realised… it’s a recipe!!!

WashAsDelicates · 29/01/2023 07:38

I’m getting flashbacks to an ex from another country who argued that sneezes are not “a-choo” but are, in fact, “hap-chi”. I was having none of it and I’m having none of this donkeys saying Colin malarkey either.

My Romanian cousins say "hapchi"... Dunno about the French donkeys, though.

I didn’t realise until I was in my thirties that raisins are dried grapes.

I'll be 36 next month and you just taught me something new 😞

Do you remember the smarties adverts from the 80's and 90's.
A few years ago, I suddenly understood why 'only smarties have the answer'.
😂

Me too!! And I didn’t realise until my 20s that Madonna is pregnant in Papa Don’t Breach - I thought “keeping my baby” just meant she wasn’t splitting up with her boyfriend. 😁

And What’s App is “what’s up” only dawned on me a couple of years ago 😆

Adrieeeeenne · 29/01/2023 07:49

*Ha!! Papa Don’t PREACH! Freudian slip 😂

ManAboutTown · 29/01/2023 07:49

For those who have struggled with the meaning of Knights in Wite Satin I'd love to hear your interpretation of the following

Little Red Corvette
She Bop
Golden Brown
A Day in the Life

Husband and I learnt this the hard way when we took our first cat to the vet, scrabbled around in his fur for 5 mins to find the 'concerning patch' only to the the vet look at us pityingly and say 'it is his belly button' still had to pay the £25 fee!

I'm so sorry for laughing 😅

So, 'watch your six(pack)' isn't Cockley rhyming slang?

Cockley?

Try Cockney my love. 😊

It was only recently that I realised the main chap in UP was dead all along and the scout was a guardian angel trying to earn his wings.

What is UP?

4kinell · 29/01/2023 07:56

I'm sure somebody did a later version of nights in white satin which was actually called knights in white satin , so some of you who may not be old enough to remember the original may be remembering that one instead .

AudreyBabs · 29/01/2023 07:57

Still embarrassed about this one but when I was pregnant with my first - I thought it was the vagina opening that dilated to 10cm. You can imagine my terror when I learned about the ring of fire.

marmiteandminticecream · 29/01/2023 07:58

i was in my 40s when i found out the pointy piece inside the lid on a tube of cream is what you use to break the seal. quite obvious when you think about it
(i think i've wrote seal wrong )

When I was little, I thought Evita was singing to a person called Argentina and telling them not to cry.

I only recently realised why they called the story of Eva Peron Evita (I could never work it out!). In Spanish adding ita (or ito) at the end of a name is a form of endearment.

@Soubriquet
gots me thinking….another one I keep hearing is “T minus ten minutes’
I’ve tried to work that one out but I still don’t know what the T means

they’re often saying it in the American nonsense shows I watch

T is current time. T - 19 is 10 minutes ago

And current time is not a type of grape

Guihgesfy5es · 29/01/2023 08:02

I was in my late 20s when I realised Ned was short for Edward. I just assumed it was short for Nedmund

Eh? Are you having a laugh? I did not know this. I'm 51!!!

It took my 13 year old DS , some 5 years ago, to explain to me how the tides are controlled by the pull of the moon. Before then I just thought they slopped around according to the seasons/ time or something.

I an a very well travelled teacher 😳

Gosh how embarrassing!

ArthurFoxache · 29/01/2023 08:10

Didn't you know, - cockley is the verb used to describe a Cockney... As in: This Cockney is so cockley he puts the Mitchell brothers to shame. 🤣

TheMoonHangsOverIdlewild · 29/01/2023 08:10

Only realised it was "Party wall" last year after a lifetime of saying "parting wall" which would be ok apart from anytime I've ever heard anyone saying "Party wall" I've inwardly chuckled "Oh dear party Wall, they're going to feel so stupid when they realise"

When I was about 6 or 7, I got a book on sports as a Christmas present. In the section on cricket there was a head and shoulders picture of legendary cricketer Jack Hobbs wearing his England cap. The caption underneath read "Jack Hobbs in his heyday". For the next 20 years or so I thought that England cricket caps were called "heydays". 😀

I love this 😂 this is my favourite
