Anyone bored enough to help me plan my dining room redecoration? o

Moving in soon. Pics attached.

I'm thinking new real wood floor. White walls bar sises of chimney breast, maybe a forest green and a floral wallpaper on chimney?

Love this rug from IKEA too.

Dark wood dining table and chairs.

I really don't know!

As an alternative view I think turn the whole thing into a ball pit and put a big disco ball in the middle.

GhostPillow · 28/01/2023 09:07

Incredibly helpful. Thanks.

I wouldn’t put wallpaper on the chimney breast - paint all the walls the same colour. I’d also remove the fireplace and the heater - they are probably not needed since there’s a radiator in the too - doing this might make the room seem a little bigger as it looks quite small - will it fit a dining table and chairs or is it more a snug/work/hobby space ?

I think white is too bright and stark with that wallpaper and dark painted alcoves. So if you have those I'd go with pale green or grey-blue walls.
Where's the rug? If it's in 2nd pic have you got a better pic or link?

tinselvestsparklepants · 28/01/2023 09:19

How old is the house? That'll give a better idea of what to do/ not do. Is it modern or are there period details elsewhere that you can echo in here?

Period terrace.

Sorry rug here.

Of course it will fit a table and chairs in.

I'm thinking new real wood floor. White walls bar sises of chimney breast, maybe a forest green and a floral wallpaper on chimney? Floor looks good, so new wood floor would be nice. I like the wallpaper ideas, especially the purple. Would you get fed up of it after a while? If not crack on. White walls fine.

Love this rug from IKEA too. Could not find the rug, love a good rug on a wooden floor.

Dark wood dining table and chairs. I've done the same for contrast but will suit your colour scheme as would current floor colour.

I really don't know!

I liked the disco idea too 😉

GhostPillow · 28/01/2023 09:30

Yes I think I'll remove the fireplace.

Hi op I really like the darker colours in a single room, very gothic and cosy.

I would paint the fireplace and perhaps get a fake electric woodbuner in.

I'm not fond of the one thing papoeerd though.

You could paper the bottom half and paint the top half of the walls..

Itgoesalittlesomethinglikethis · 28/01/2023 09:32

Just seen the rug. It's nice, I like it. Would it darken the space? The windows are big so maybe not? Normally I wouldn't mix patterns on wallpaper and rug but the rug isn't in your face, so seems fine.

Floofyduffypuddy · 28/01/2023 09:32

If you remove chimney breast remember to keep the actual wood ofnfhe fire place and make. Mini one even on. Flat wall or something like that

I love everything to he a 'little Addams family-ish' so the wallpaper is quite bright for me and the rug.

I'm trying not to make everything black 😂

Ok first wallpaper goes better with your rug choice. So first wallpaper, rug, forest green paint and sage green walls I think works. Nice! I like it. Green velvet curtains?

GhostPillow · 28/01/2023 10:15

I don't know if I'm sure about floral 😭

Myne I should just do it like the rest of the downstairs.
All white with black woodwork.

A nice big piece of art on the chimney breast (with fire and surround removed)

Dining rooms should have warm colours, to help you relax and feel comfortable while you eat. Cream walls , not white, no need for a busy wallpaper , have a picture or a mirror ( good for reflecting candle flames) if you want to break up the surface.

I don't do warm colours! 😂 And I really hate creams/beige/ browns

Yuck

If you remove chimneys breast I wouldn't get rid of the fire surround.

I would keep the surrounding to provide a focus point still.

Floofyduffypuddy · 28/01/2023 10:52

I like it op.its got atmosphere.

GhostPillow · 28/01/2023 11:02

I'm actually thinking just white walls, black woodwork and splats of hot pink 😂

I know everyone on here will HATE that but I think that's the vibe.

If it’s what you want, go for it. You sound like a decisive person and know what you want.

GhostPillow · 28/01/2023 14:21

Thanks.

Am now looking for a hot pink rug 😂

Remove the ancient fire but not the fireplace! Chimney breasts looks so weird without the focal point of a fireplace. I’d only do a rug in a dining room if it’s a washable one.

Quite like the paint colour it is already.

I have a carpet cleaner so I'm not bothered about spills.

I was going to hand a large canvas on there. I'd rather plaster over the whole as I won't put another fire in there

Beautifulsunflowers · 28/01/2023 15:25

The second picture with the black and white with splashes of pink actually looks very nice! The thing with going black and white is that you can introduce other colours quite easily with soft furnishings. What are you putting at the window? Blind or curtains?
Im not keen on the fire in the fireplace - I’d take that out and replace with either a wood burner or fake one or just a collection of candles.
Look out for a nice big picture or mirror for above the fire surround.
