Anyone bored enough to help me plan my dining room redecoration? o

Moving in soon. Pics attached.

I'm thinking new real wood floor. White walls bar sises of chimney breast, maybe a forest green and a floral wallpaper on chimney?

Love this rug from IKEA too.

Dark wood dining table and chairs.

I really don't know!

The second picture with the black and white with splashes of pink actually looks very nice! The thing with going black and white is that you can introduce other colours quite easily with soft furnishings. What are you putting at the window? Blind or curtains?
Im not keen on the fire in the fireplace - I’d take that out and replace with either a wood burner or fake one or just a collection of candles.
Look out for a nice big picture or mirror for above the fire surround.

Blinds. Venetian I think. White.

Yes a mirror would be great

Sounds awful🙄

Doesn't it just?! Hope social services don't pop round and see it! Yikes!

Maybe if it's not going to be in use daily, as dining rooms often aren't, take out the radiator but replace fireplace with nicer looking fire so that you can just heat room as needed and it will be cosy .

I saw that rug in Ikea this week-it’s really nice! Depending on the light you get I would go all dark walls-look up “colour drenching” -for a dining room. For me a dining room would be a cosy feeling space, which you wouldn’t feel with 3 out of 4 walls being white

I'm actually thinking just white walls, black woodwork and splats of hot pink 😂

I know everyone on here will HATE that but I think that's the vibe.

Not everyone will hate it, but it looks rather dated to me.

Why not paint the fire surround black or hot pink?

Tangfastic71 · 28/01/2023 16:57

Do you like any of these?

Get rid of the heater from the fireplace.
Restore the fireplace to an original looking state. I would seek out appropriate tiles and a proper mantel.

Put shelves and cupboards in the alcoves by the fireplace. Put a big piece of bright art on the fireplace wall. Or a big mirror.

I'm not a fan of feature walls. However, I'd put wallpaper behind any shelves you put into the alcoves.

I agree your room needs a crisp, light paint colour. It would need a tone to it to compliment any wallpaper you use though. Otherwise your room will look unfinished.

Love your idea of real wood floors.

I'm not interested in what's 'trendy' or dated.

I'm interested in making my home aesthetically please to myself, so that doesn't bother me a bit.

Well absolutely and I didn't intend to offend. But you did open with 'I really don't know'.

Is that a working gas fire? I would tend to keep the fireplace/fire. Maybe you could change the actual fire at some point. I would use the fireplace to line up glass candlesticks of different colours and tea lights for when I was having dinner guests.

The wallpaper you have picked is horrible. Sorry. I like the rug and would try to plan colours etc around that. Is it blue or black? Oh I wish it to be dark blue! I think adding a picture rail would be good. Paint a light shade of blue to the rail, which will likely be white. Then a darker shade to the ceiling. Fancy curtains? Maybe silver/velvet/bit of metallic. Impressive centre light and a floor lamp. It will be lovely.
