Any decent podcasts for a long solo drive?

Tomorrow I have a 7hr round trip for a 2 hour meeting. Hooray. I'm going to need some decent podcasts to break up the tedium, and am after recommendations. Will consider anything pretty much - current affairs, history, drama, classical music - except those lifestyle podcasts where people chat exclusively to guests that have chatty lifestyle podcasts of their own, and it all feels like a big circle of arse licking.

Stuff I've liked recently:
I'm not a Monster - The Shamima Begum Story
The Listening Service
Sounds Like a Cult
Behind the Bastards
Tracks
In and Out of the Kitchen
The Boy in the Woods

Betwixt the sheets with Kate Lister - lots of different subjects and specialist guests.

The Rest is History

I really liked Man in the Window but it is about a serial killer and is chilling.

Also Gangster from the BBC, each series focuses on real gangsters from childhood to capture/death.

I also listen to a couple of podcasts about The Real Housewives, and Parenting Hell. I’m not obsessed with murder and crime!

Nathalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics.

Funny, informative and with a feminist angle.

Cautionary Tales - Tim Harford

Really interesting podcast about how things could have turned out differently for various events if only this, that or the other had happened at this, that or the other point in time. Usually about a historic event that went horribly wrong but could have been prevented.

I'm not explaining it very well but definitely recommend it.

The Coming Storm, about Q Anon, the January Capital storming, the Clintons, Trump. Fascinating and in no way dry and 'political'.

CMOTDibbler · 26/01/2023 15:14

You're dead to me on BBC Sounds

Iwanttobeinthesunshine · 26/01/2023 15:23

I really like ones in the Freakonomics series. They have one where they interview people (People I mostly admire), a more behavioural economics one (No Stupid Questions) and a medical one (Freakonomics MD). And others I can’t remember the name of.

I really enjoyed SNAFU about how close we came (or didn’t!) to nuclear war in the 1980s. It’s only 8 episodes and I found it fascinating.

declutteringmymind · 26/01/2023 15:30

British Scandal

LadyOfTheCanyon · 26/01/2023 15:34

The missing Crypto Queen ( ongoing as not solved, but enough episodes to keep you going for your entire journey. )

Sweet Bobby or Hoaxed if you like odd real life crime

The Witch Farm or The Battersea Poltergeist if you fancy a bit of creepy woo

St Elwick's Neighbourhood Association Newsletter Podcast if you like gentle ( but very British) humour

Agree with PP You're dead to me is very good and entertaining. Dan Snow's History Hit is also great.

You could always make a start on My Dad wrote a Porno...

Nightynightnight · 26/01/2023 15:45

Steve Bartlett Diary of a CEO. For self development type interviews with fascinating successful people.
Katherine Ryan Telling Everyone Everything. For a laugh but also interesting.
Mysteries of the unexplained for spooky japes and banter.
Derren Brown How to be Happy.

DivorcingEU · 26/01/2023 17:23

BBC Sounds - Buried

PepsiMaxLime · 26/01/2023 18:08

My Favourite Murder - you’ve got a 7 year back catalogue to work through there!

The Opportunist

Toni & Ryan - if you need to zone out and have a giggle

PieonaBarm · 26/01/2023 18:24

I'm not a Monster has a first series which is ten parts. I've just listened to it, about an American woman who goes to Syrian with her husband and young children. It's good.

risefromyourgrave · 26/01/2023 19:14

Real Dictators is a great one, really informative. Criminal and This Is Love are both presented by Phoebe Judge who has a great voice and tells some wonderful/fascinating stories.

lljkk · 26/01/2023 19:22

Bear with me, but you can listen to them in sequence, and it's all about food, supply chains, nature, countryside management, cute animals, edible animals, the economy, labour market...

Farming Today on Radio 4 (bbc sounds). Start it from 1 Nov 2022 & let one play after another. for hours.

Sucessinthenewyear · 26/01/2023 19:25

Paradise- true crime podcast about one murder.

Ylvamoon · 26/01/2023 19:25

BBC sounds app: Great Lives & In our Time

newyearolder · 26/01/2023 19:27

I second British Scandal, they are great and lots to pick from. The Bojo one was eye opening.

Ratched · 26/01/2023 19:27

We're Alive.

Listening to it on Spottify gets me through long, boring dog sniffy walks😁

Sadik · 26/01/2023 19:39

I'm listening to The History of English podcast & really enjoying it.
My other favourite is The Tip Off about investigative journalism

Zucker · 26/01/2023 19:43

Currently listening to Maintenance phase and If books could kill.
