Please could anyone advise on a good location for sun, sea and culture in April? Looking online and there’s so much choice, any recommendations…? Need some ☀️

Turks and Caicos - so beautiful and April is a perfect time to visit.

BIWI · 25/01/2023 21:57

What kind of culture are you after?

EveryLittleWish · 25/01/2023 22:08

Best value for money is Dominican Republic. Cuba, Jamaica and Mexico are good Options too!!!!

FelicityFlops · 25/01/2023 22:09

Tobago is lovely, especially with a day trip to Trinidad.

EveryLittleWish · 25/01/2023 22:09

Turks and Caicos is my dream !! @cheeseandquackerz ( one day)

Krakenes · 25/01/2023 22:15

Guadeloupe!

Esgcrowd · 25/01/2023 22:15

When I say culture, I mean history (museums, landmarks) and local cuisine - we don’t just want to stay in a resort. Thanks for the suggestions so far!

St Maarten
Turks and Caicos

British Virgin Islands. Ferry over to virgin Gorda, snorkelling…..amazing scenery to blow your socks off, fab food and vibe.

LHReturns · 26/01/2023 00:40

I’ve had 30 christmases in the Caribbean and have yet to find special cultural experiences.

TeaAddict235 · 26/01/2023 00:52

Yes @LHReturns , it takes time for any community and culture to rebuild, especially after 200+ years of cultural erosion and decimation thanks to slavery and the eradication of the natives. Or had you forgotten?

If you're going to Cuba and then possibly going to the USA at some point in the future you won't be eligible for an ESTA and will need a VISA. Just something to think about in the planning stages

Yes, after 30 years with a home there, and a stepfather from there, I have still forgotten all that.

Lizzylala12 · 26/01/2023 00:59

The Hilton on Barbados ! On the beach ! Best of all with childrens club !!!!

Silkierabbit · 26/01/2023 00:59

Martinique had a fair bit of cultural things to visit and can also get ferry to St Lucia which was quite different culturally.

TeaAddict235 · 26/01/2023 01:03

Clearly @LHReturns . But as your user name suggests, you can always hop onto a Flight to Heathrow and celebrate the magnificent Christmas culture spanning centuries that the UK offers.

Last time I checked, when they were cramming slaves into the ships, there wasn't much thought into how their culture could be celebrated on the other side. Maybe you know best??

Ok ok! It’s my favourite place in the world….I spend as much time there as I can. my original comment was simply in response to the OP request for culture - I don’t think Barbados excels there. That’s all.

emmetgirl · 26/01/2023 01:28

@UselessExLondoner
That's not true. I went to Cuba in 2019 and then went to the USA in January 2020 with absolutely no issue at all. Unless it's changed in the last couple of years.

What are you on about? @LHReturns point is based on OP looking for culture etc in the Caribbean.

As you’ve so rightly given the reasons for limited cultural experiences surely OP should be looking elsewhere if they are not interested in resorts and beaches and want museums and culture etc.

Olblueeyes · 26/01/2023 03:02

I loved Cuba. Saving for Aruba next!

Coyoacan · 26/01/2023 03:08

I don't know about the other places, but there are lots of Mayan pyramids in Mexico's Yucatan and Quintana Roo and right beside the sea. Cuba is also very rich in culture

Coyoacan · 26/01/2023 04:06

Actually the slaves brought a very rich culture to Cuba

octoberfarm · 26/01/2023 04:08

Saint Lucia is gorgeous. You get the lovely beach and sandy bits but also a lush, tropical island with rainforests and a volcano. So much to see!

It is true. Anyone who’s been to Cuba has to now get a visa. They don’t qualify for an ESTA. It was one of the last things Trump did before he left the Whitehouse. It’s effective from 2021. January I think.

Why would I make it up?
