If there was something that could tell you the day you would die..

Would you want to know?

Imagine a world, where knowing the day you die is known automatically to you if you wish it.

Would you wish to know?

I just wonder if it would “normalise” death a bit which means people wouldn’t need to grieve as much as they know when this person would die.

I would want to know.

I’ve just got 14 years left apparently I’ll die just before my 56th birthday. Ah well, least I won’t need to worry about the ever increasing pension age!

Look no further -

deathclock.com

I should have died on 24th Feb 2016
Seems I'm living on borrowed time

getreadyy · 25/01/2023 20:49

Bloody hell. I'm going to be 98. Wahoooo

edwinbear · 25/01/2023 20:55

@mothertrucking you’re not alone in that. Once you’ve got a date in your head (even if you know there is no way it can be accurate), you’d never get it out of your head would you?! I certainly wouldn’t and I definitely don’t want to know.

LlynTegid · 25/01/2023 20:58

No I would not want to know.

GherkOut · 25/01/2023 20:59

If I was a healthy weight, I would still be due to die on 2 March - this year.
That gives me 5 weeks to finish my knitting and paint the skirting board.

Bloody hell, that's freaked me out a bit ...

Wednesdayschildhasstubbedhertoe · 25/01/2023 21:01

I'm planning to work until about 70, and not overly concerned about retirement. I've got health problems and have been told by more than one consultant, I'll be lucky to see 70, so that's my goal and that's all I'm hoping for. Pension age will be higher than my life expectancy by the time I get there

LoobyDop · 25/01/2023 21:04

God, no. I’m a planner, but living your whole life on a countdown would be horrible.

Triflenot · 25/01/2023 21:15

If I knew the day I was going to die it would mean I’d have a deadline to declutter my home, I’d be able to arrange to have the house deep cleaned, and also plan my funeral outfit options.

NameChange005 · 25/01/2023 21:45

Yes. And I'd look forward to it in all honesty.
If it was soon enough I'd quit work and enjoy myself.

TitInATrance · 25/01/2023 21:56

I put DM’s details in this website (sorry Mum) and it said she died over 10 years ago … still with us and living more or less independently. Especially odd as my details are the same except date of birth and it says I’ll live until her age.

Simulacra · 25/01/2023 21:58

No, because I’m sure I’ll live till I’m 98, like two of my Great Grandmothers and I ain’t even having fun in my 30s, I have zero desire to trudge through another 60 years of this.

FelicityFlops · 25/01/2023 21:58

LOL, according to the death clock I should have died in 2015!

tangerinenightmare · 25/01/2023 22:06

I would love to know! Because then I would know if I'm wasting my time being sensible, saving for retirement etc. If I knew e.g. I was going to die in 5 years time i would be far more frivolous!

blackpearwhitelilies · 25/01/2023 22:10

I’ve only got 7 years apparently. Won’t see retirement or pension. Ah well . . .

frozendaisy · 25/01/2023 22:15

I would want to know if it was fairly exact.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 25/01/2023 22:17

FelicityFlops · 25/01/2023 21:58

LOL, according to the death clock I should have died in 2015!

It said my dm has until Jan 2031. We lost her last month.

I think the algorithm is fucked.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 25/01/2023 22:19

I would want to know but only a 6 months to a year before. I’d like enough time to say the things I want to say to my loved ones and wind up my affairs.

Chickydoo · 25/01/2023 22:20

Apparently I'm going to make 96 Grin
As long as I have my marbles & can still enjoy a G&T sounds good to me!

Lordofthebutterfloofs · 25/01/2023 22:24

Goodness I didn't need this thread tonight

I am feeling anxious about my mortality and that I am likely more than halfway through my life.

No, i would not want to know

Highabovethetrees · 25/01/2023 22:28

mothertrucking · 25/01/2023 20:41

Am I the only one that daren't click on the death click link? Even the thought of seeing what that says freaks me out

Nope, not the only one!! 😅

Okki · 25/01/2023 22:28

I've got till June 2071 apparently, so quite a while yet 😁. Better crack on either pension then!

Dragonsandcats · 25/01/2023 22:31

Oh my gosh, being pessimistic rather than normal shaves 23 years off my life!

OooPourUsACupLove · 25/01/2023 22:32

I'd definitely want to know!

I'd know how long my pension and savings need to last so I'd know how much to save now
I'd plan all the trips to places I want to see before I die knowing I would see them
I'd be able to say goodbye to everyone, maybe even a pre-death party
And if, God forbid, I'm going to die young even more reason to know so you don't spend time building towards a future that won't happen and concentrate on here and now

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/01/2023 22:33

I think I would. I'd stop paying lots into my pension if I'm going to die before I can get it.
