hi
Anyone managed to knock their sale price down this January ? supposedly 50% off cabinets etc but OMG 30k ! and I'm still having to source a range cooker and double ceramic sink myself. Husband thought/hoped it would come in under 20K (not me)
I am going back to haggle, just interested in others experiences.

DIY kitchen.

I must say all the advice we got from magnet and the staff were amazing but we got same kitchen standards from DIY...all the Blum stuff etc

Robin233 · 24/01/2023 19:53

Big kitchen from wren, including cooker , hob- sink under £10,000
We fitted ourselves

thanks for replies, i'm in north Oxfordshire. I like the units very much and can't match the paint colour in any other kitchen shop i've been in, nothing fancy just a particular green
DIY kitchens i have not looked at, husband not particularly handy and does not have the time so finding a fitter who could crack on will be tough I think

DIY have every shade and match pricing and beat it

It's worth looking at local fitters to be honest for fhe savings.

You must have measurement... look at. DIY and put measurements in and roughly price up the kitchen and that will at the very least give you the guide price on what your kitchen should costs.

You can use as bargaining for magnet however.... you get more choice at DIY.

tootiredtobother · 25/01/2023 10:08

had a look at DIY cant see wide double drawer units, or the pull out interior racks for corner cupboard, s saw sink units ? i feel so much happier sat in front of a chap with a computer planner. Ill have to sit husband down and plough through with him

Had a lovely magnet kitchen fitted a year or so ago but the the paint quickly began to wear off the Matt units ( we had a combo of truffle oil and coffee grounds). Nice kitchen, Shame about the paintwork.

LillyLeaf · 25/01/2023 20:39

Our magnet quote was crazy. We're going with diy kitchens.

2023bebetter · 25/01/2023 21:02

How wide are double draw units? I'm sure we have some?

Januaryisshit · 25/01/2023 21:03

Just a pity your not in Scotland, the kitchen depot is fantastic

LillyLeaf · 25/01/2023 21:06

They have a huge size range of drawers. I found it easier to find products via their kitchen planner.

MzMarple · 25/01/2023 21:11

I sent my Wren design over to diy kitchens via email. They done all the plans for me and came in at £7k cheaper.

NadjasNightclub · 26/01/2023 09:21

I'm a Magnet designer, down south. While I've heard that DIY Kitchens quality are indeed good, personally I think being able to go back and talk to your kitchen designer about the layout, or any issues once it's being fitted is invaluable. Wren is not nearly the same quality, and don't offer painted kitchens.

My advice is this - ask if any of the local Magnet installers will do the installation privately. You get the same fitter, but the guarantee is directly through them. This will save on fitting costs. Also ask if there's any way you can get the trade prices if you go down this route (you wouldn't be able to use any finance offers though!)

Personally I always go as low as I can on price anyway, especially this time of year as we're busy and can afford to lose margin, so I assume the quote given has had maximum discounts but its always worth asking if the manager can do any better.

Skiphopbump · 26/01/2023 09:27

I started the process of choosing a kitchen in 2021 and Magnet kitchens were 50% off then.
By the time I went to Magnet I had a very clear idea of what I wanted. I already a few quotes from other places so felt confident to ask for a reduction, it came down by a few K - 24k to 18K (including fitting). I then went to Magnet trade who dropped the price to £10k for units and appliances.

Skiphopbump · 26/01/2023 09:30

Just to add I bought the worktop from an independent place for £3k rather than the £4k quote by Magnet.

tootiredtobother · 26/01/2023 15:08

the deal is done folks, got £5k off in the end
thanks for all comments

@tootiredtobother Hi , did you go with Magnet in the end? How did you manage to get 5K off please? Did you go back with a comparison of lower costs on DIY kitchens?
I have just put down a deposit of 1K for the Luna gloss kitchen “ to secure the reduced prices” as sale ends this weekend apparently. It’s still coming to a hefty 19K 😳( although including appliances )with 50% off of cabinets etc etc. The deposit is refundable though. I really liked the sitting down with the staff on the computer bit and being able to go back with any questions etc. They seemed very helpful. I will have to source the work top myself which will add another few K .Hoping to request some more money off , but how ? Thanks

mrsmama · 28/01/2023 16:44

Just to add, I also now discovered that I could’ve ordered through our builder but not sure how much reduced are the prices for builders orders and does any of the reduction gets passed to us - the client of the builder? Do they quote the price to the builder or directly to the customer? Sorry for digressing from the thread but shared info from anyone in the know will be greatly appreciated.Thank you

Floofyduffypuddy · 28/01/2023 16:49

@NadjasNightclub

DIY sent couriered stuff the same day we said when a few panels had a small chip.

In fact when the kitchen arrived one kick board wasn't there and somehow they had already noticed and sent it.

DIY is totally transparent pricing.

Floofyduffypuddy · 28/01/2023 16:53

@mrsmama

Be aware the sale's thing is a selling tactic.

I'd always cross referencing with DIY first.

LadyEloise1 · 28/01/2023 16:58

My sister in law had a Magnet kitchen put in years ago - the after sales service was dire. Dreadful. The kitchen was expensive, looked lovely but had issues with drawers. Eventually rectified in a couple of minutes after months and months of stress.
Magnet left the Irish market.
Good riddance she said.

We had a Magnet kitchen fitted in our last house, the kitchen fitter we used charged us what he paid, but he said others charged a mark up.

Magnet kitchens are actually ridiculously cheap, the mark up for both individual trade and public is huge. (Not so much on contract)

mrsmama · 28/01/2023 18:05

Not sure how I managed to highlight my posts same as the OP’s !
@Floofyduffypuddy I thought as much .I’ll cross reference on DIY if I get a chance.
The only reason I went to Magnet was that a friend had her’s done 2 years ago and thats the most recent one amongst my friends and family. She found that Magnet wa scheaper than the loacal independent one and similar to Wren. Those were the ones she looked at.I haven’t needed to look at kitchens for over a decade now so that was a sort of reference point.
I am waiting for a quote from Howden’s too, as H suggested by the builder- apparently he has one too. Howden chap said it was entirely upto the builder whether to pass on any trade prices/ reductions to us or not. I suppose it must be the same with Magnet and others.

Thanks @WhiteFire I’m sure there must be a sizeable mark up !
