When did your baby move into 3-6 month clothes?

My daughter is 7 weeks old and already her 0-3 babygrows are too small I think 😩. They fit fine on the arms and body but she can't straighten her legs fully and some of the feet on them are too small. So I've just been putting her in vests/ leggings and socks. I've got her some 3-6 months babygrows though and they're massive on her?? Am I doing something wrong? New to all this. Should I just stick to the vest and leggings combo until she's big enough for 3-6? I'm worried her legs and feet will be damaged in the 0-3. When did your babies move up a size?

Maybe she needs crotch extenders? Or footless suits with a pair of tights underneath. Our daughter was about 9 months old when she was big enough for 3-6 months.

When he was about 1 month old. He’s currently in 6-9mnth at 4months old. Basically they should wear the size that fits!

Scarecrowrowboat · 24/01/2023 14:22

3 weeks. He was already too big for the newborn size at birth.

It depends on the brand. DS is 6wk and some are too short in the leg, others are fine. We had mostly hand me downs so I’ve just put away the ones that don’t fit. You could cut the feet off but DS is also not bothered if they’re a bit tight in the leg length.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 24/01/2023 14:24

At birth. He skipped 0-3. He was 10lb 11oz.

witknit2012 · 24/01/2023 14:24

We found that there’s a huge range within 0-3! Check the weight on the label - it can go between 4.5kg - 6.5kg. My 7 week old is currently in the 5.5-6.5kg range for 0-3 month clothing

Cornettoninja · 24/01/2023 14:24

Leggings and socks are fine, as long as she’s warm it doesn’t really matter. Footless suits are a good call 🙂

my dd(7 now) still has odd growth spurts where her limbs veer off the standard clothes measurements but her torso is still fitting into stuff fine - I don’t notice till her school skirts start looking indecent Grin

4thonthe4th · 24/01/2023 14:24

Both my boys were around 4 months old when they moved in 3-6. DD was a week shy of 3 months.
Just put your baby in whatever size fits.

Moonlightsonatas · 24/01/2023 14:26

Check the different brands you have by holding them up next to one another - they’ll all be completely different sizes!

Don’t worry about the label, you’ll soon get an idea about which brands fit your baby best. One of my babies was long in the torso with short legs, the other is the opposite!

Cornettoninja · 24/01/2023 14:26

It depends on the brand

this is also true. I’ve always found Asda stuff comes up big.

rickandmorts · 24/01/2023 14:27

I didn't know crotch extenders were a thing! Will look into those thanks because we have some beautiful stuff that she's worn once so would be nice to get a bit more wear out of them 🥴. And I'll start checking the weights of outfits. I'm encouraged that some of your babies went into 3-6 at a younger age, I was worrying that DD was a gargantuan baby!

I always found there was about a 3 day window where stuff fitted mine perfectly, otherwise it was too big or too small.

If it seems like she’s tall/long-legged then H&M do baby grows without feet. I got those for my son so he could wear them with socks.

rickandmorts · 24/01/2023 14:30

And didnt think of cutting the feet off! We've got loads of hand me downs of some lovely stuff and it seems a shame that she'll never wear it. I have a bin bag in the nursery and whenever we put something on her that's too small it goes in the bag to be donated or put away for a 2nd 🤞

My baby went into 6-9 months at 2 weeks old due to being in a hip harness. So many clothes that were never worn and a rush out to the shops to buy clothes that fit her!

HinnyHoway · 24/01/2023 14:31

Mine was about 9 month but she’s only 1st centile for height so we really could stretch out the wear! Don’t worry about the size just go by what fits. My friends 3 year old is in 4-5 clothes, they’re all different x

Mylittlesandwich · 24/01/2023 14:31

5 weeks, he was 10lbs 10oz at birth.

Margo34 · 24/01/2023 14:31

Baby clothing sizes are just weird. Stick your child in whatever fits irrespective of the label. Mine was is 0-3 for only about 4 weeks.

These days, almost 2.5yo and has only just outgrown a 9-12m coat, still has plenty of growing room in 12-18m trousers, yet has already outgrown some age 2-3 clothing. Go figure!

TheRookie · 24/01/2023 14:31

Are you tumble drying her clothes? I find that shrinks baby grows quick quickly!

SBAM · 24/01/2023 14:31

Oh, and DD never had the issue DS did, but she always went into the next size up 3-4 weeks early. She’s 5 now and wearing age 6/7 school uniforms. Some kids are just built bigger than the others.

gogohmm · 24/01/2023 14:35

Around 8 months, I had tiny ones!

rickandmorts · 24/01/2023 14:36

You're all making me feel better thank you! And we don't have a tumble drier so I'm deffos not shrinking them!

I had this same problem with some brands, but not others. Unfortunately it seems just a case of shopping around to find "your brand" or using the suggestions PPs have given.

We found Next fitted our boy well, but the downside of having all Next branded babygrows is once one is too small, they all are.

HS1990 · 24/01/2023 14:41

Ds is 5 months Nd has just moved up to 6 to 9 month clothing. Pyjamas fit much better, gros are still big on him.

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 24/01/2023 14:50

Move them up when the size you're in don't fit anymore. There are no rules. Sizing across brands differs enormously.

My son was in 3-6 months when he was born at 10lb 7oz. He's now 16months and an average size about to outgrow 12-18 months but fits in 18-24 if from cheaper shops like primark.

larchforest · 24/01/2023 14:56

Have you washed the 3-6 months ones? They often shrink the first couple of washes, and that might solve the problem.
