Is it really awful to have a day in bed?

I work full time, kids all grown.
Cleaned house and shopped yesterday but did sit around late afternoon reading.
this morning DH is pottering downstairs, I’m still in bed reading. DH has no problem with this (brings me a tea every now and again) I’m lovely and warm (no heating on in the house), dog tucked up alongside me.

Why can’t I just relax and enjoy without feeling guilty that I should be DOING something constructive.

Someone make me feel ok about being in bed at this time of day please!

Thanks all, I have a JRT under the covers next to me. See butt attached.

Reading The Lamplighters by Emma Stonex. Really enjoying it.

You are doing something constructive, you are resting.

Having work to do is important, so is actively making time to both rest and play.

(Wasn’t work rest and play a jingle for cereal or something? There you go -)

gravyriceandchips · 22/01/2023 14:17

I do this about once a month.

DH away next weekend so my Dd and me will be doing this watching films, eating whatever we feel like and just lazing round.

2tired2bewitty · 22/01/2023 14:18

Unless there’s something that tomorrow you’re going to regret not doing today, like a wash load to get something particular clean, then enjoy it on behalf of those of us who’ve still got two swimming lessons to sit through!

20viona · 22/01/2023 14:19

This sounds like heaven

OldTinHat · 22/01/2023 14:24

There are many reasons why this should not be done.

  1. You don't have an electric blanket or
  2. You don't have a dog/cat to share the duvet with

Er....that's my warning! Actually, not a warning, more of an enhancement suggestion!

Enjoy your lovely snuggly day! Room for one more?!

Blip · 22/01/2023 14:26

You work full time!!!!
Weekends are for enjoyment and recharging.

I also have adult DC. I had an epic lie in this morning until 11am. I've been for a leisurely stroll in the sun with DH and then had a leisurely bath. I am making a low effort sausage tray bake this evening and until then will be loafing about.

Fight any guilt OP. You deserve a rest when you can get one, we all do.

TheChosenTwo · 22/01/2023 14:31

Haha I just got out of mine!
Was on my laptop though since about 12 applying for a couple of new jobs but still nice to be lazing about in bed. I rarely do it - woke up at about 8, had a shower and put some comfy clothes on and got back into bed and watched some crap telly for a few hours.
my kids are old enough to be self sufficient (18,17 and 11), dh made some breakfast for the 11 year old and then they went to get some football boots. I wasn’t needed anywhere else, not really anything pressing to do.
Up now and have had some breakfast and we are just about to go for a walk.
If you’re not like me and itching for a bit of fresh air, just chill out and enjoy the cosy comfort of your bed - mine is my favourite place in the world.

Cocobutt · 22/01/2023 14:40

I have a teen and a dog so I can’t do this but I 100% would if I could.

I try and do all of my chores, shopping, work for the following week etc during weekdays so I can have as much time relaxing on the weekends as possible.

OriginalUsername2 · 22/01/2023 14:42

Intentional rest is very productive! You’ll function better for it during the week.

Xrays · 22/01/2023 14:48

MrsJBaptiste · 22/01/2023 14:05

I couldn't do it, I'd feel sweaty and actually be quite bored after an hour on my phone or reading.

But absolutely no problem with anyone else doing it!

Same.

My idea of relaxing is a really long walk. Even when it’s cold like this I have to get out for an hour or so, walking just for the sake of it. I get cabin fever being inside all day.

Suasthuasanuas · 22/01/2023 14:48

@Lazylazymoo great idea!!! I am going to put on the kettle for a hot water bottle and tea and then plan to emulate you.

Suasthuasanuas · 22/01/2023 14:50

@OriginalUsername2 I also plan to steal the phrase "intentional rest".

catmademedoit · 22/01/2023 14:59

I think your day sounds perfect

A while back I worked Mon to Fri , I got into a routine where Saturday I'd go into town .. I'd come back with at least 1 thing from Primark , sometimes other bits I'd see , always something from Superdrug and had spent over a tenner on a sandwich cake and coffee

Didn't need any of this stuff .. when things started to get a bit more expensive I had a weekend at home and really enjoyed it so stopped the unnecessary town visits , saved a bit of money and now love my duvet days 🤗

MooFroo · 22/01/2023 15:05

I’m in bed too :)

been up and pottered around, did some work stuff earlier - self employed, the spent time with DD and now come up to bed to watch something on that telly

TOTM with cramps so been munching as well as relaxing :)

just enjoy it!

Snoopsnoggysnog · 22/01/2023 15:26

I think it’s absolutely fine but it’s zero degrees here… not sure where you are but is there a reason you haven’t got your heating on?

stillvicarinatutu · 22/01/2023 15:31

I do that every weekend . It's my me time . Don't feel guilty! I live alone so no one to answer to !

AttentionAll · 22/01/2023 15:32

I would see this as a sign of depression.

WGACA · 22/01/2023 15:33

I love a duvet day! I work full time too and often have a nap at the weekend if I can.

Lazylazymoo · 22/01/2023 15:49

Definitely not depressed! Anyway, I’m up now (got up at 15.00 as I was starting to feel stewed).

Put the vacuum cleaner over (bloody dog) and wiped the surfaces in the kitchen.

It doesn’t feel that cold here - DH does not feel the cold at all and wouldn’t put the heating on early, It’ll come on at 4.30 ish

Remember all many hours of the night you spent NOT in bed asleep when those now grown kids were little babies.

And enjoy! You've earned it love.

Geebee12 · 22/01/2023 15:54

I woujd be the same, I couldn’t stay in bed all day as I’d feel so unproductive, which is so ridiculous and I really wish I could relax and enjoy but I can’t!

IntentionalError · 22/01/2023 15:55

It’s January. It’s bloody freezing. Of course you can justify a Sunday duvet day, so enjoy it.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 22/01/2023 15:55

Enjoy your duvet day OP sounds lovely x

007DoubleOSeven · 22/01/2023 15:56

Just zbout 4 here and I'm still in bed. Few responsibilities today and I have an illness that causes fatigue. Its a bad day for it. Going to drag myself up now though...Don't feel guilty, as pp said, you are doing something - you are resting. The body needs it sometimes.
