If you grew up within the m25… did you stay there as an adult?

Just that really? If you grew up within m25 did you stay there or at least the south east and so not too far from home/family?

I grew up in north west and all my friends have moved away, including myself.

I moved away as I'd always wanted to live somewhere rural while growing up.

Babyroobs · 21/01/2023 19:32

Dh was born in South London and grew up there. Moved away for Uni and never went back.

Nitgel · 21/01/2023 19:34

Yea moved into London but moved back to hometown to be close to parents. Will move away to more coastal area when able to. Need a change now.

JimJamJolly · 21/01/2023 19:35

No. Moved away up north for Uni and have never gone back.
My parents have since moved to where I am!

LBOCS2 · 21/01/2023 19:37

Yes. DH and I both grew up in z2/3. I went away to uni then came back afterwards. We live further out now because of house prices, but still inside the M25.

Pinkflipflop85 · 21/01/2023 19:37

Grew up inside M25 (SE). Now live literally the other side of it but still work in the London Borough I grew up in.

PuttingDownRoots · 21/01/2023 19:38

Lived in several countries around Europe and now settled in Yorkshire.

We felt we could give our children a lot better life here. There isn't much I miss really. (Maybe the public transport.)

eurochick · 21/01/2023 19:38

Yep. Grew up in the outer suburbs of London. Moved away for uni and early work placements. Then moved back to London and had a couple of wonderful bachelorette pads in zone 2. Then got married and had a child and followed the well-trodden route of moving back to the outer burbs (but a different area from where I grew up).

Led92 · 21/01/2023 19:42

We all move away for jobs, assume there isn’t that pressure if you’re already in south east!

no I moved to the coast as a teenager. I hated the area I lived in, riddled wih knife crime even then.

Crumpledstilstkin · 21/01/2023 19:45

Nope, couldn't afford it. Same with all my friends.

Fifiellz · 21/01/2023 19:46

I just moved 3 junctions round

RampantIvy · 21/01/2023 19:47

No. Grew up up in Croydon. Now live in rural Yorkshire. The only downside is the lack of public transport.

misssunshine4040 · 21/01/2023 19:48

Moved away as a teenager and wished I could go back

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/01/2023 19:56

Nope. Grew up in SW1. All my university applications were deliberately over 100 miles away. Nice live a bit north of Sheffield.

No. Grew up up in Croydon. Now live in rural Yorkshire. The only downside is the lack of public transport.

I completely agree!

Lovemydoggiesomuch · 21/01/2023 20:00

Yes brought up in South East and have lived in many parts of world but moved back to this area and had my family.
Kids adults now and living in various places but all hoping to move back when they have children. Great schools and safe ..but very expensive!

ofcourseyes · 21/01/2023 20:02

Rented near to where I grew up in N London but ultimately couldn't afford to buy anywhere, especially where I would want to live!
Now in East Anglia, lovely area but the transport options are nowhere near London.

WaxOnBoreOff · 21/01/2023 20:02

Grew up in inner London (zone 2). Went to university in London and never left! Live in a zone 4 suburb now. Have brought my kids (now teens) up here. I could never imagine living anywhere else in the UK. The only place I’ve ever been that I could imagine myself living was NYC.

I’m a big city person to the core.

GlamGiraffe · 21/01/2023 20:10

I now live 2 miles from where I grew up in London. I moved 6 miles away to zone 1 Central London but moved back out halfway between there and where I grew up. My parents lived a couple of blocks apart and have ended up a mile away from where they grew up. My grandmother married her next door neighbour and lives in the same street she was born in. We all live within 4 miles of each other. None of us could imagine living anywhere else.

Anotheanon · 21/01/2023 20:16

No. Moved north.

Comedycook · 21/01/2023 20:19

Born and brought up in London. Still here at 41....Live about 2 miles from my childhood home. Sadly though, lots of my friends have been priced out and moved away 😥

Dacadactyl · 21/01/2023 20:21

I moved away. It was too dear and I'd have had to have worked FT to have afforded to stay there. Never regretted it and prefer it where I am now.

happysunr1se · 21/01/2023 20:22

I grew up in SW20, now I live in Croydon/Bromley border as I couldn't afford to live near my parents.

I was annoyed at the time as my siblings earned much more than me so could buy decent homes close to where our parents live. But now I actually prefer where I live; the streets are wider and tree lined, the houses are more individually styled rather than roads of identical 1940s terraces. The local primary school is single form admission and 5 minutes walk down the road, we have independent shops and restaurants nearby and many beautiful parks.
Croydon centre is sad though 😕

DoThePropeller · 21/01/2023 20:23

Grew up in SW London, moved more central for a few years, then moved back out to my hometown when we had children so we could have family nearby. Have since moved a little further out but only four miles from my childhood home. My group of close friends from school, five of us, all live within two miles of each other and did similar boomerang away for uni/early 20s and now back. It’s lovely.
