If you grew up within the m25… did you stay there as an adult?

Just that really? If you grew up within m25 did you stay there or at least the south east and so not too far from home/family?

I grew up in north west and all my friends have moved away, including myself.

surprised on the price comments seast London and Kent borders like dartford are commutable and reasonably cheap l…. comparable to house prices in the north west.

It's not just house prices or rent. Everything costs more in South East. It used to cost £300 for a basic service on my car at the local garage. Needless to say, as a low earner that didn't happen! A friend changed the oil occasionally and that was it. When I moved it was £115 for the exact same service on the same car at a similar local garage so I could afford to have it done every couple of years. Takeaways, drinks in pubs, taxis were approx half the price. For the first time I actually had a proper social life! 10yrs after I moved away, I was paying the same to board two pets while I went on holiday as it used to cost me to board one when I was in London. Your money stretches further when you're away from the SE.

I suspect some parents want to avoid the grammar school system in Kent as well.

Also because traffic is better and I can afford to run a car, instead of praying it doesn't break down because how would I afford it, I can drive to work. Car costs excluding repairs but including fuel are about £2000/yr for me now. My travel fares for commuting were £1000/yr when I lived in London, I don't know what they'd be now 15yrs later, plus I had car costs on top and fuel was relatively cheap then would be a lot more now. In central London you don't need a car but on the outskirts it definitely makes life a lot easier to have one.
