What time do your dc go to bed/wake up?

Soubriquet · 20/01/2023 20:05

I sometimes wonder if I put them to bed too early so I was curious what other people do.

Dc are 7 and 9. Birthdays in March (beginning and end) so both are nearly 8 and 10.

They currently go to bed at 8pm. They are allowed to get up at 7am. Obviously if they wake up earlier, they can stay in bed and read a book but they aren’t allowed to leave their rooms (bar going to the toilet), or make loads of noise that would wake anyone else up.

I'd say 8pm is a bit early for a ten year old, but if they go to sleep easily and sleep through until 7am then that's obviously the amount they need.

My 2.5 year old goes to bed around 7:30, plays with his toys in bed is usually asleep by 8ish. Wakes up anytime between 7:30-8:30

Alannahxx · 20/01/2023 20:12

I've always let mine go to bed when they're tired- currently for my 10yo that's 9pm. She gets up about 7ish. We've never had set bedtimes and have had zero drama about sleep ever!

Yeah the almost 10 year old usually goes straight to bed and is sometimes woken up in the morning.

I would love that, but dh likes them to have a set bed time. This was important I guess when he had 2am starts, but he starts later now. Might have to discuss a later bed time for dd

4.5yo is asleep by 7 and wakes about 6ish. I go to bed myself about 9pm so I’d rather a couple of hours peace in the evening rather than waking him up in the morning

Abracadabra274 · 20/01/2023 20:21

9 year old bedtime is 9pm though takes until around 10pm to fall asleep.

Up at 7.20am

Orangello · 20/01/2023 20:24

7 and 9 here too, they go to bed around 9 on school nights, 9.30 weekends. They can get up when they want and do whatever they want. Usually on weekends when we want to sleep in, they have breakfast and then watch tv or something. Why can't yours leave their rooms?

Pollypocket1001 · 20/01/2023 20:27

8 year old goes to bed around 8pm, wakes around 830/9am on the weekend and when they're off school
2 year old goes to bed 8pm, wakes about 1030/11am and has an hour in the day.

Todaynotalways · 20/01/2023 20:29

DD is nearly 7, she goes to bed at 8ish. We aim for 7:30 but 8 is more realistic after a book and some faffing.

We wake her at 7:10am during the week. She sleeps until 8am if we don't wake her.

So they don’t wake up adults. Obviously if they need help, feeling ill, scared etc, they are of course allowed to wake someone up, otherwise it’s polite not to make noise to wake up anyone who is still sleeping

DS1 (10), bed at 8, asleep by 8:15, wakes about 5:45. Welcome to go downstairs from 7 (otherwise he’ll wake DS2 because he is an elephant on the stairs).

DS2 (6), also put to bed at 8, sings to himself, talks to his animals and finally drops off about 9:30 or is asleep by 8:05. Wakes about 8:30 naturally (unless awoken by DS1’s elephantine footsteps or by me on a school morning).

If DS1 could lie in at all (apart from New Year’s Day when he slept until 7:45!) then he’d be welcome to stay up later.

That seems ridiculously controlling.
why on earth can’t they go downstairs and watch TV quietly at that age?
I don’t let DD go downstairs yet at 3 but I imagine she’ll be getting up when she likes by the time she’s 5!

DD does to bed about 8pm, gets woken up on weekdays at 6.45, weekends she does what she likes.

AardvarkParty · 20/01/2023 20:41

Mine are 10 and 8.

They go to bed about 8pm, but the 10 year old potters about in his bedroom until quite late.

They get up about 7am on school days and enjoy lying in on weekends.

If they wake earlier and want to get up, that's fine. They get their breakfast and watch a bit of TV.

Soubriquet · 20/01/2023 20:44

Dh sleeps downstairs… that’s why.

I have health problems which leaves me in a lot of pain and dh was causing it to be slightly worse by moving around a lot. So he sleeps downstairs

My ds goes to bed about 2am and wakes up about 12 noon.

Newuser82 · 20/01/2023 21:33

My nine year old goes to bed at 7.30, is asleep by about 8.30 and up at 6-6.30. At weekends he stays up later but is still up between 6 and 6.30. The three year old goes to bed at 7 and is up the same time.

helloreindeer · 20/01/2023 21:38

My 3.5 years old goes to bed at 11pm and up at 10:30am if he has afternoon session. Otherwise he goes to bed at 8:30pm and up at 8am for the morning sessions

illiterato · 20/01/2023 21:40

12&10- weekdays: bed 8:30, up 6:45

weekends: bed 9:30, up 7:30/8am

i always have to wake them up now. When they were babies I longed for this. Now it’s kind of a PITA.

Frumpymumma · 20/01/2023 21:43

Eldest no routine as college age

10yr old dsc
9pm - 7am school nights
10/10.30 - 8am or later weekends

Nearly 5 year old
When dsc same as doesn't settle without them, but when not here
8pm - 7.30am school nights
9pm - whenever weekends

3 year old
6.30 /7pm - 7.30/8am every night

Frumpymumma · 20/01/2023 21:47

In the nicest way, I get he sleeps downstairs but surely that's being a parent having to get up with the dcs. And maybe if they went to bed later they'd wake later.
He can't have it all ways of ' wanting set times but also not wanting them up too early'
Maybe I've read it wrong though

Can he not wear earplugs and they be fairly quiet? It’s a bit hard not to be able to get up and get breakfast if you as hungry.

ThisGirlNever · 20/01/2023 21:55

DS1 3 years old = 7pm-7am
DS2 9 months old = 7pm-7am

To be honest DS1 could maybe do with more sleep. He's full-time at nursery and is sometimes still sleeping at 7:15am, but putting him to bed earlier is difficult with DH's job, dinner, bath time, etc.

Sparkletips · 20/01/2023 21:57

Most weeknights my just 12 yo is in bed for 8 & reads till 8.15 most weeknights. Has to be woken at 6.30. Holidays & weekends its anytime between 8 & 9.30 & usually sleeps for 11-12 hours. MIne clearly needs lots of sleep (making up for the early years!) so I dont feel bad making them go earlier than some of their peers - phone stays downstairs & is often pinging until after 10!

Terencina · 20/01/2023 22:00

I think it’s fine to say they have to stay in their rooms until 7. They won’t die of hunger and it’s much better for them to read than watch tv.

OP my 10 year old goes to sleep at 8 and wakes at 7.

My 7 year old is asleep by 7.30 but unfortunately wakes at 6 every bloody day.
