What time do your dc go to bed/wake up?

I sometimes wonder if I put them to bed too early so I was curious what other people do.

Dc are 7 and 9. Birthdays in March (beginning and end) so both are nearly 8 and 10.

They currently go to bed at 8pm. They are allowed to get up at 7am. Obviously if they wake up earlier, they can stay in bed and read a book but they aren’t allowed to leave their rooms (bar going to the toilet), or make loads of noise that would wake anyone else up.

Funnily enough, no matter how early they wake, they are never starving hungry.

Occasionally, ds doesn’t have breakfast at all. He isn’t a food person in the morning. He’s encouraged to eat on school days, but on weekends and half term, he can choose to eat or not

I agree fine for them to stay in their rooms til 7...and to a PP, I can't imagine the chaos a 5 year old could cause downstairs alone while you're asleep 😐. Our almost 5 year old is a little whirlwind, that would definitely not be safe

Dd(10) bedtime is 9pm

Ds(13) is 9.30 but usually closer to 10

Sometimes I get them both in bed for 9 if they are tired or dd goes up about 8 and reads

Almost 9yo bed by 7.30, up at 6

almost 5yo bed by 7 up 5.30

i think both could probably go to bed later to wake nearer 7am but we aren’t quite ready to give up our evenings. It’ll probably happen this summer when evenings are lighter.

Quornflakegirl · 20/01/2023 22:13

I have two 10 year olds. Lights out at 8:30 and up at 7am.
Weekends is 9:30 and they usually sleep until 9:30-10.

YerAWizardHarry · 20/01/2023 22:15

Mine turns 10 this weekend. His school night bedtime is 9pm although 9.30 is not totally unheard of. He gets woken up at 7am to get ready for breakfast club.

Weekends he stays up a bit later although weirdly has no trouble waking up early to play his Xbox.

MissWings · 20/01/2023 22:19

My 13 year old goes to bed at 9:30 on school nights, up at 7.

My 11 and 7 year old go to bed at 7:30 and up at 7.

They definitely sleep too.

My dd7 is nearly 8. Goes to bed 730-8 asleep by 830 most morning up 6-630 😑😩😩 but I say sue can watch her iPad until I get up 730. She has been oddly waking at 7 recently which was like a godsend!!

leelan · 21/01/2023 06:41

My 7 year old goes up at 7:30 and it's lights out between 8 on a school night. Weekends it's more like 8:30pm. I still think at 10 years old a bedtime of 8:30 is fine. I feel 9-10pm is quite late for school aged children especially on a school day when they wake early. Weekends are different

Wfhandbored · 21/01/2023 06:57

We're going through a phase atm with nearly 2yo - asleep for 7:30, trying to get up between 4-5am. Been going on for a month now and we're shattered :(

Monkeybutt1 · 21/01/2023 07:10

My 10 year old goes to sleep at 8 and wakes about 6.30-7
He's another who can't sleep in but myself and DH don't either. He does sport most days after school and on a weekend morning so needs his sleep.
He wanted to stay up late on NYE then st 8.40 took himself to bed 😂
While he can go down, turn the alarm 9ff and get breakfast by himself, we do have a no screens before 7 policy. He can read his kindle though of course, which he's more than happy with.

2 and 4 year old’s go to bed at 7, 2 yo wakes up at 5 irrespective of bedtime and 4yo wakes at 7 usually. 10, 11 and 12 year old’s go to bed at 9. 12 yo usually wakes between 5 and 6 and always has done, 10&11 yo’s wake 7-7:30.

Caspianberg · 21/01/2023 07:14

My 2 year old hardly sleeps.
Bedtime 8pm ( asleep by 9pm on good day)
Awake 6-6.30am usually

If he naps in car for even 2 mins, that gives him plenty of energy to stay away another 2-3hrs ie 11pm bedtime earliest ( and still wide awake at 6am)

Girasoli · 21/01/2023 07:32

DS1 (6) - 9.30/10 up at 7.30/8
(he's always struggled to fall asleep)

DS2 (nearly 3) - usually around 8, up around 7/7.30...though occasionally wakes up at 6

motherhubbard12 · 21/01/2023 08:58

"Aren't allowed to leave their rooms" wow!

When will this stop?

MissWings · 21/01/2023 09:43

@motherhubbard12

It isn’t a issue for kids to remain in their rooms until at least a certain time of the morning so that all family members can get some rest and sleep. That’s just called good manners and boundaries. I think the OPs kids can’t leave until after 7am. That’s hardly unreasonable.
