What do you wear to the office

Just this. What type of clothing do you wear if you go into a non customer facing environment

I’m in my late 30s and wear straight leg jeans, boots and a smart top with a bit of jewellery.
I’ve been looking at soft black casual trousers as an alternative but haven’t seen anything I like yet.

Pre-Covid I would wear a dress/skirt but everyone is dressing much more relaxed since returning.

However, the youngsters seem to be wearing trainers, sweatshirts and even joggers.

MaverickGooseGoose · 20/01/2023 17:19

In winter a variation of ankle grazer wide leg trousers, polos and DM boots

MaverickGooseGoose · 20/01/2023 17:21

Pre covid it was pencil skirts, tops and a blazer with heels

reluctantbrit · 20/01/2023 17:23

I wear these a lot but in black:

Paired with a smart top and low heels.

We currently have a smart casual dresscode but heard it will go back to business dress soon.

silverclock222 · 20/01/2023 17:23

Black trouser suit, black boots, smart blouse (not black). Alternate days with same in navy. I like to keep work wardrobe totally separate, boring and professional.

DappledThings · 20/01/2023 17:44

Jeans and a jumper, same as outside the office. But I do change my usual Deichman fake Converse for black ankle boots as a nod to smartness.

lljkk · 20/01/2023 17:57

Hoodies & tatty jeans.

What will this change to if they say business dress? Will it be suits? I'm moving job soon and seen a variety of levels of dress there so don't know what to wear! I'm interested to see what a business dress outfit might be now

LiteralSycamore · 20/01/2023 18:02

Knitted dresses, or jumpers and woollen ribbed pencil skirts and boots, or slouchy jumpers over white shirts and wide-legged wool trousers.

PrincesssConsuelaBananahammock · 20/01/2023 18:10

Company branded t shirt, skinny jeans and trainers. If I have a visitor or external site visit/meeting then it'll be black skinny jeans, boots and a smart top. We're quite casual. I'm 27, been with the company 4 years, if that makes a difference.

MinnieMountain · 20/01/2023 18:15

The same shift dresses and cardigans or scarves that I’ve been wearing for years. I bought them specifically for work, so I don’t see why I should wear anything else.

TheChosenTwo · 20/01/2023 18:38

Today was leggings and a big sweatshirt that comes halfway down my thighs so bum very much covered and trainers. Yesterday was a dress, leggings and boots. I’m admin in an office that usually has a max of 4 other (also admin) staff in. It’s very informal.
For events and big team things I make more of an effort but on the days I’m in the office i’m freshly showered and clean, but very informally dressed. And that’s totally fine by management, they come in wearing suits if they have important meetings to attend but on the off chance any of them pop in they are often in jeans and T-shirts/sweatshirts.

Tailored trousers, skirts or dresses for ladies. Jackets aren't required unless you wear strappy tops. Typical formal sleeveless dresses (as sold by Hobbs or similar) are fine.
Smart tops or blouses are fine. I haven't worn a jacket in ages as I have GG boobs and unless I get it custom tailored it never fits.
Court/heeled shoes, not trainers. Flat is fine as long as they are smart. I can't wear heels (knee injury) but as long as it's not a ballet flat even flat boots go with trousers.

This sounds very me. Any brands/ links you could share ? Thanks 😊

I WFH at the minute but have a "uniform" to mix and match. The blouses and skirts are identical apart from the colour

Blouses (grey, green, burgundy)
Knee length skirts (black, navy, grey leopard print)
Blazer in black
Cardigans which are smarter than they sound! (Black, navy, pale grey)
Wide leg black trousers
Black cigarette trousers
Grey tweed type trousers
Black loafers, black ankle boots, black heels
Nude and black tights
Then way too many dresses GrinBlush

Mum97540 · 21/01/2023 01:09

Black trousers, shirt or jumper, black leather trainers.

Unfortunately, lots of it is really old — I have Quinn and Donnelly trousers from the 90s! Some of the dresses are Cos and Reiss, there’s some Oska and Margaret Howell…?

garlictwist · 21/01/2023 06:34

Usually a short ish skirt (above knee but not a mini skirt!), tights, a long sleeved top, boots or trainers. I work in a university so it's pretty casual.

Arushofbloodtothehead · 21/01/2023 06:52

We've been wearing jeans since pre-covid so I'd be either in jeans & smart jumper with trainers or boots or else a casual dress. If meeting clients I wear a smart dress.

verdantverdure · 21/01/2023 06:54

Trousers, balloon leg and wide leg mostly, some peg styles, shirts and blouses, knitted jumpers, boots, loafers, and trainers, a simple silver necklace. Minimal make up, shiny hair. Bare nails.

I mix and match all of the clothing options but try to retain some semblance of colour coordination.

This is a stepped down version of my pre-pandemic work wardrobe. I don't think work should be a fashion parade but my old office heels, workwear dresses, manicures, and jackets feel dated to me at the moment. I'm even off earrings.

Highonpower · 21/01/2023 07:10

I mostly wfh. Went in last week - over sized white shirt, navy cotton/linen chunky shirt cardigan, carpenter jeans and black chunky boots. Our dress code, is dress for your day. No clients in the office - we’ll be very casual.

IwishIwasSupermum · 21/01/2023 07:27

Pre Covid we always had dress down Friday which has now become new normal every day. I like it, sometimes I go smart casual, other days smart jeans and trainers. I’m taking the lead from management, we don’t have external customers, there’s only 7 of us left, most jobs have gone off shore. WFH 2 days a week, love that I don’t need to buy ‘work clothes’ anymore.

Lazydazey · 21/01/2023 08:32

Dark trousers or jeans, cardigan and smart tshirt. Lately a fleece or Jumper over the top. I saw someone wearing these in the office the other day and thought it was ridiculous.. but got told by my boss that ‘you should feel comfortable at work’ and I was out of touch .. really ???

EspeciallyDetermined · 21/01/2023 08:45

In my current job I wear jeans or leggings and casual layered tops/jumpers with boots in winter, in summer it tends to be dresses and white trainers. Always flats, never heels, never any type of court shoe or ballet flat either. Same as before covid and same clothes as my non-work days, which reflects that I really like my job and don't feel the need to separate home and work wardrobes. Whereas in a previous job which was pretty stressful I had to have a separate work wardrobe in order to not be reminded of work when I wasn't there.

QueenWenceslas · 21/01/2023 08:50

Our dress code is smart casual and explicitly states no denim, sportswear or trainers.
I usually either wear a jumper dress with boots or black trousers with a smart top in winter and short sleeved shift dresses in summer.
