Are The Sun holidays worth it?

Im thinking of collecting the vouchers this year but I've not been on one and I don't personally know anyone who has.

Are they worth collecting and is there anything I should be aware of before booking?

TIA

I went on one about 5 years ago, so I'm sure you'll have more recent tales on here soon!

But we enjoyed ours 🙂 we done Friday-Monday at a Park Deans resort. I recall it costing more in the region of £120ish (maybe slightly more) once extra bits were added on. It definitely didn't only cost me £9.50 each but I can't remember why, sorry.

It was canny though.

I personally can think of nothing worse than holidaying in locations where sun readers descend in their masses.

But if that’s your thing it’s a cheap holiday, and some people share the codes online so you don’t have to worry about getting each paper

Ah, do you prefer the ones where Daily Mail reader’s congregate instead?

I did it a few years back pre covid. It was fine. The ‘villa’ was a bit…well villa was a generous term for a glorified shed 😆 but the park facilities were good, and we made use of the surrounding area. It’s not something you do with huge expectations to be honest, but we had fun.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 20/01/2023 14:20

I read on here that you should avoid anywhere in Liverpool and I'd never thought about it before but makes sense!

QueryA · 20/01/2023 14:40

We did it for a few years in a row when the kids were toddlers. But that was about 10 years ago. As did my sister. You used to be able to get a bonus code which meant that you could log on 24 hours before the main opening and get first pick of the resorts/weeks.

From what I remember you have to put down 5 resorts, and 5 possible dates and they then give you one of the options. Which means you are quite resticted on what you get, and its first come first served.
We have gone to Parkdean at Eyemouth, Creswell Towers and Tummel Valley. They are what they are to be honest, we tended to choose parks where there wasn't much entertainment, as they are quieter, and also went off season. We wnted to avoid large groups of excited/noisy/drunk people. We mostly used them as a caravan holiday as a base to explore that area. Didn't do the entertainment passes or anything.

Londono · 20/01/2023 14:45

I went on one when I was younger and it was horrific. It was a damp smelly and dirty caravan and we went home early.

Don't buy the Sun!

Andrelaxzzz · 20/01/2023 20:26

Don't buy the sun. The voucher codes are always out online when they are available just Google this year's.
We went to Lake Garda last time was fecking lovely. At a Eurocamp. I think it was £15 a night but was about 8 years ago.

Merple · 20/01/2023 20:35

We've been in a few but not in the last five years. Hit and miss. You get given the older caravans ime. The best ones we had were at smaller sites. From memory, you have to buy the paper the first time you do it. After that they email you a code and you can just Google for the voucher codes on places like money supermarket. You have to put in four different dates and four different places I think. So it's worth working that out before booking opens. Generally there's a cleaning charge and there might be an entertainment card cost, so it works out about £120 for a weekend. If you like static caravans it's a good value weekend.

Purplepepsi · 20/01/2023 20:47

We had a few good ones but not recently as there is very little in the school holidays any more so we booked directly the past few years but it's more expensive.

Ignore this, Liverpool is one of the friendliest cities - just there’s a league of ‘haters’ who like to spread nonsense.

disneydreaming · 20/01/2023 21:01

The European ones are definitely worth it. We went to altomincio near lake Garda for a week in June for £168 had an amazing time.

Liverpool is an amazing, friendly wonderful city full of varied and interesting people. 99% of which wouldn’t spit on a Sun reader if they were on fire, with good reason!

Ukholidaysaregreat · 20/01/2023 21:07

I love Sun Holidays. Used to be cheaper a few years ago but can still get good value if you do Mon - Fri in term time. You have to pay for 4 people even if there were only 1 or 2 of you. I think you do end up paying £120 for a caravan. You can take off bedding and bring your own. You don't have to buy entertainment passes. However I would rather buy them and have more of a holiday, having done both.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 20/01/2023 21:07

@Deathbyfluffy

That's good to hear. I've never been to Liverpool nor have I been on a Sun Holiday.

underneaththeash · 20/01/2023 21:20

it’s odd, exactly the same post came up
last at the same time. Bloody cheeky if the sun are trying to get free advertising….

That's fine. We don't want you Sun readers anyway 😊

SirenSays · 20/01/2023 21:28

I wouldn't. The parks look dire, there are lots of pictures of filthy caravans online and the upgrades I can see are only for basic things like double glazing and heating which should be standard imo

StarCourt · 20/01/2023 21:38

there arent many at 9.50 unless you want feb march or november

prettyrainbows · 20/01/2023 22:23

I'm a self confessed snob 🤣 and although very dubious- I actually went on 2 of these and both were fab! Haven Hopton Norfolk and Devon Cliffs.
Obviously costs more than 9.50, I think we ended up paying around 180, but to be fair, both were pretty decent parks and the caravans were lovely/clean etc! Go for it !

OldTinHat · 20/01/2023 22:28

Yes, yes and YES! As a single parent, I took my DC on two a year as it was the only way we could afford a holiday. They're in their 20s now and they still go on them, I bumble along sometimes too!

A Sun Holiday was also my honeymoon in France.

You have to pay for extras such as entertainment and electricity but, imo, worth every penny. I have so, so many happy memories of holidays with my DC that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

You can get the token words from the Money Supermarket website, you don't have to buy the paper.

SnowfallSnowball · 20/01/2023 22:30

Whatever you do, don’t go to any Pontins sites. Tripadvisor tells you all you need to know!

DosCervezas · 20/01/2023 22:34

If I could pay a fee to guarantee that no S*n readers were going to be at my hotel / holiday park , I would gladly pay a handsome fee for that service.
We won't forget those stories and headlines.

RoseThornside · 20/01/2023 22:36

We did one some years ago in October half-term - Haven site in Norfolk. It was lovely.
