'Just a cold' .One of my sons University companions has died aged 20 years recently .She contracted Covid last April and never recovered.Tell her parents it is just a cold!

xogossipgirlxo · 20/01/2023 10:15

I had covid for the 2nd time, 2 vaccinations taken (last one in February). I must say after having covid once and two vaccines, it was manageable. Not great, but manageable, and I am pregnant, so couldn't really take lots of paracetamol etc. Hope your husband recovers soon and covid will leave him alone now.

Doormatnomore · 20/01/2023 10:34

Just like the flu, which actually is a rotten virus and has put my fit and healthy teenage in bed for a fortnight, fever of 40, not eating and barely drinking for the first well. Just cause it’s common doesn’t mean nothing to worry about.

dingit · 20/01/2023 10:38

Not vaxed. Never had it. Go figure

Flossyhair · 20/01/2023 10:41

I had COVID last July and have been left with long covid and heart and lung inflammation - diagnosed by my specialist.

Sense of taste and smell is still way off, brain fog and exhaustion is getting better though.

No cold has ever caused the issues for me that COVID has.

GerbilsForever24 · 20/01/2023 10:44

Some people are more susceptible. DH has also had it 4 times, 3 of those with the very bad fever and chills and cough and once with a fever but only for a day. He also had bad responses to 2 of his 3 jabs.

What worries me is the long term effects on his lungs and heart more than anything else. But I guess it will be years before we know.

beguilingeyes · 20/01/2023 10:45

I keep reading articles about long-term effects on the heart and immune system. More risks of strokes etc and it's not harmless.
I really don't want to catch it any more.

Justellingthetruth · 20/01/2023 10:53

@Hbh17

surely you know by now that depends who you are!

dingit · 20/01/2023 10:38

I had my first covid as non-vaxed, and it was awful. As aftermaths, I had to take 3 different antibiotics to fight bacterial infection (which is common after viral one). Vaccinations wear off after a year or so, just like flu ones. Go figure.

Go figure what?

No one sane person has ever suggested that 100% of unvaccinated folk are certain to get covid

The two things are totally unrelated

dingit · 20/01/2023 14:48

Go figure was meant to mean how does that happen for some people 3 years in. I'm sure scientists are still trying to work it out

And you as a single example prove theory that no vaccinations mean good immunity and no covid? Tell it to people who had no vaccine and died or spent weeks on ventilator. They don't support your independent study and deep research, do they?

emmathedilemma · 20/01/2023 14:58

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/01/2023 09:17

I test with symptoms out of respect for those who are more vulnerable. I wouldn't mix with a bad cold or flu either to be fair.

Exactly this!! It might have been "just a cold" to me but it might not be to anyone I could pass it onto.

dingit · 20/01/2023 14:58

Pretty sure I didn't say I was a single example. There must be many. Why can I not enter the conversation. The op was saying her dh has had it 4 times. There are some doctors and scientists saying that the vaccine is causing more covid not less. And no it's not a conspiracy theory. No one has proven otherwise.
They claimed it would stop transmission. It didn't. Said you wouldn't end up hospitalised.
There are many with side effects.
The great big elephant in the room. Did the vaccines work?

Rebel2023 · 20/01/2023 15:00

watchfulwishes · 19/01/2023 22:08

We can expect it 2, 3 or even 4 times a year now

Thats why I've stopped going out again
If I get it
Time off work sick and loss of pay
Time to ring 111/covid team for anti virals
Time monitoring o2 and covid team ringing me
Risk of long covid/complications

I can't afford it/want it, I've just been positive for 18 days and was off sick for all that time

Pumasocks · 20/01/2023 15:05

Hbh17 · 19/01/2023 22:13

How do you know? Surely nobody is still testing? Just treat it like a cold, and carry on as normal - it's really not a big deal.

I don’t know anyone not still testing, maybe you just surround yourself with selfish assholes?

Nsenene · 20/01/2023 15:15

We've all had covid 3 times now. 2nd and 3rd times were very mild. Most recently was in December, I was much more poorly with a cold 2 weeks later. Shan't bother testing in future.

Zippedydoo123 · 20/01/2023 16:00

I really don't think vaccines help any longer.

Why do you think you're coming with some shocking discovery? It's like flu vaccines- they never guaranteed you won't catch flu 100%. It's not just covid vaccine. Nothing new here.

My ex never had the vax and despite being 68 he has never had covid to his knowledge.

I think people need to stop taking all these boosters.

Motelschmotel · 20/01/2023 16:07

They claimed it would stop transmission

Literally no scientist or doctor worth their salt (or not someone you read about on a dodgy website) has ever claimed this. The vaccine is there to help reduce the effects of covid if/when you catch it. As a consequence, there’s a possibility that you yourself will be less infectious to others.

That’s very different from what you said.

So what were/are vaccine passports for then?

Motelschmotel · 20/01/2023 16:41

dingit · 20/01/2023 16:29

So what were/are vaccine passports for then?

Do you understand the difference between “some” and “all”?

Between “fatally” and “not too badly”?

Between “hospitals overrun to the point of turning away patients” and “hospitals able to manage their workload”?

Between “stop entirely” and “reduce”?

Between “almost certainly” and “possibly”?

Thats what they were for.

I truly wish these 'it's just a cold people' would F off!

For me, sure, I was asymptomatic but I don't go around telling people it's nothing when for sure people die. Flu kills also. The people who talk shit about Covid are also the people that say they've had flu when what it was was a common cold.

TBF virtually nobody who says they've had flu or indeed a cold has actually been tested for exactly what virus they might have. People just assume, and there's a particularly pervasive and incorrect assumption that whether it's flu or not can be discerned by how ill you were. Flu can be mild or asymptomatic and colds can kill people.

But ultimately I agree with your point though got there from a different route: it's stupid saying something is just a cold because there's no 'just' and because people react to different viruses in different ways. It's not a helpful way to look at things.

Eh?

Are you seriously suggesting that because one random man hasn't had covid people should not have boosters?
