What is that contraption above the washing machine in pic 12? I've seen that in someone else's house and so curious what it is!

I have no idea! I'm intrigued now!

25 years ago my ex SIL lived in a small house in a mining village. They were very very proud of the fact that her husband had fitted a toilet inside the house. It was directly at the top of the stairs and was basically a cupboard with a door that left a gap of at least 2ft at the top and the bottom. When walking up the steep stairs the angle was such that quite a good view of anyone sitting on the loo could be had. I didn't use it, preferring to wait until we went back to PIL s to use the loo. Mind you... That wasn't a lot better. The bathroom was directly off the kitchen and had a glass door - obscured, but showed shadows etc. MIL spent all her time sitting in the kitchen so no privacy at all - and there wasn't even a lock on the bathroom door. I have never been so constipated as when I stayed there!

Minimalme · 19/01/2023 20:50

I wonder if they have a 'no poo poo in the bedroom loo' rule?

Or maybe they have a poo fetish?

WoolyMammoth55 · 19/01/2023 20:54

I stayed in a B&B once for a romantic weekend away with an open-plan loo.

Obvs the photos in the listing just showed the lovely roll top bath in the bedroom, NOT the loo completely exposed on the opposite wall...

Needless to say it was not romantic in the slightest :(

It had recently been refurbed and refitted, all very lovely and expensive. Tons of floor space. No reason on god's earth why they couldn't have stuck the loo in a little room with a door...

I think it must be a fetish thing.

megletthesecond · 19/01/2023 20:54

They have a shit plastic lawn rug in the garden too.

WeAreTheHeroes · 19/01/2023 20:55

We had to put a door on the ensuite when we moved into our house, but at least before then you couldn't actually see anyone in the bathroom!

Exdpisatwat · 19/01/2023 20:57

@Anotheanon Ah thanks! I never would have guessed that's what it was.

WhyIsntItFridayYet · 19/01/2023 21:00

Christ.
Here was me thinking the house near us with saloon swing doors on the en-suite was totally bonkers. This is next level.
Nothing says ‘true love’ like sharing every moment (movement?) with your other half.

Casilero · 19/01/2023 21:04

Oh wow. I never used my ensuite in my old house in the 5 years we lived there as I just could not relax enough to shit with someone at the other side of the door. I can't even imagine one in the room I sleep in with the person I kinda want to shag me from time to time!

But even the shower being there? Won't it cause damp?

WhyIsntItFridayYet · 19/01/2023 21:09

@TellMeTheTruthTheWholeTruth if you look at picture 14, you would be totally visible when in the shower by people on the path (pic 15) taking a walk by the river!

LaFemmeDamnee · 19/01/2023 21:12

These are all recently decorated or refurbished houses (the kitchen in the first house with the curved counter top edges is lovely) so this must be a thing in interiors. WHY?!? It's absolutely horrifying. When DH goes for a poo we practically have to brick off the room, I can't imagine it happening right in front of me 🤢

WestEndGirl222 · 19/01/2023 21:29

I'd also be asking why is the van on the drive clamped?!

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 19/01/2023 21:36

Jeez. I have anxiety dreams where I can't find a loo where the door locks.....

ClockingTime · 19/01/2023 21:49

WestEndGirl222 · 19/01/2023 21:29

It's a motorhome, it helps to stop it being stolen.
Ours is similar to that, but we take the battery out to stop it being stolen again as well as a clamp.

Casilero · 19/01/2023 21:50

@LaFemmeDamnee

I think maybe it IS becoming a thing. I stayed in a really smart looking hotel in Manchester recently that had similar. Not quite as bad as there was at least a door in front of the toilet but it was glass! Clear glass!

Honestly, I have an extremely "hesitant" bowel and have had from a young age. I have literally never had a poo at work. I go on holiday and I can come back looking 6 months pregnant due to unfamiliar toilet. Yet at home I have a coffee and a fag every morning then RUN to the toilet. My mum's the same. How on earth are people like us expected to live like this.

The worlds going to hell in a handcart 😭

NewmummyJ · 19/01/2023 19:34

I don't see what the problem is, I mean who doesn't want to lie in bed watching their parntner have a poo? Otherwise such a lovely house...

This is reminding me of that "no poos in the ensuite thread" Where is that OP when we need her?

CatNutsRoastingByAnOpenFire · 19/01/2023 22:24

I viewed a house where you walked through the kitchen and to the end of a hallway to the downstairs toilet.
That was fine.
Until we saw the living room which had a door into the toilet as well.

A day or so later saw another house where there was a toilet (in a cubicle) in between the open plan areas of the kitchen and living room.

JustWhattheDoctorOrdered · 19/01/2023 22:36

What the hell is going on?!

There are so many examples of this that it must have become I thing without me noticing. Please, can someone come on this thread and explain what on earth this is about. Are they sex people (Lyn)?

WaitingForSummertime · 19/01/2023 22:44

Off topic slightly, but how does the Norwich one have building regs approval for the top bedroom? It looks like there's no doos at the top or bottom of the stairs, unless the plan just doesn't show one. A nightmare in a fire.

Littlebelina · 19/01/2023 22:46

Another example, 4th bedroom combo bathroom. Given the cost and presume it's a bespoke house you think they would have designed a proper ensuite

howmanybicycles · 19/01/2023 23:37

If a room has a toilet in it, it's a toilet not a bedroom. They have just randomly put a bed in the bathroom as far as I can tell! It's a 3-bed house with a stupidly large bathroom.

SpacersChoice · 19/01/2023 23:38

The dining table being on the carpet is disturbing.

That is the stuff of nightmares.
