Kidney infection but now not peeing?

Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice. Had a UTI a few days ago (blood in urine, pissing razor blades etc) but it’s now developed into a full blown kidney infection. My back is sore and I just feel exhausted. I’ve noticed I haven’t been peeing much the past 2 days. I have drank over 3 litres of water yesterday to try flush it out but the pee is just not coming out iyswim

I’m not sure I should start to worry about that. Any advice would be great! Thank you!

I would give your gp a ring and see if you can get an appointment. Failing that, 111 to access a gp appointment at your local walk-in centre, if you have one.

AdamRyan · 17/01/2023 11:59

Call 111 and ask them? Pretty sure you need to see a doctor urgently but I'm not a medic

welshpolarbear · 17/01/2023 12:00

Def ring your gp. Not saying this is the same but my BIL had problems with kidneys after a urine infection. Something was missed and he's on dialysis every other day now. Def not something to mess about with. You'll reassure yourself if you call.

HAve you tried to pee in a warm bath or shower?

Def ring GP for an urgent consultation.

Fonduefortwo · 17/01/2023 12:01

Thank you both for your reply. I’m in NI so don’t have 111 unfortunately and GP won’t deal with anything non-urgent

Not peeing is a medical emergency. Contact your GP urgently.

In the interim, as someone said above, try a warm bath and see if you can pee in there.

Remaker · 17/01/2023 12:01

Please seek medical advice urgently. I had a very painful kidney infection when I was on holiday once. I was put on antibiotics but my friend who is a renal specialist said she would have admitted me to hospital if I was her patient. You don’t want to mess around with kidneys.

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/01/2023 12:02

Seek urgent medical attention - your kidney function may have shut down.

fernfriend · 17/01/2023 12:02

This is urgent! Have you got antibiotics?

Fonduefortwo · 17/01/2023 12:03

Yes, I have antibiotics I got yesterday for the UTI. I should say I am peeing but little tiny amounts and not as much as I’m drinking if that makes sense

Please get seen. This can be a sign of sepsis particularly where there is already a known infection.

Unikeko · 17/01/2023 12:04

Go to A&E you might need catheterization. Not to share you but retaining urine can be a sign of sepsis.

I hope you feel better soon!

Unikeko · 17/01/2023 12:04

Fonduefortwo · 17/01/2023 12:05

Thank you everyone, just wanted to check as was unsure. I’ll ring GP again now

OP posts:
ANUsernamgh · 17/01/2023 12:05

You need immediate medical attention. I'd go to A&E. I couldn't pass urine once after an operation and had to be kept in for three days with a catheter, and was told if I hadn't been treated it could have damaged my kidneys

ValenciaOrange · 17/01/2023 12:06

Not passing urine or only small amounts is a sepsis indicator. Please get checked out asap

Namechangeforthis88 · 17/01/2023 12:07

In case you haven't realised from what others have said - this is urgent, go to A&E right now, you need to be catheterised urgently.

Remaker · 17/01/2023 12:09

I think this is an A&E issue - just go to the hospital.

Fonduefortwo · 17/01/2023 12:11

Thanks everyone for your replies. Will head to A &E now

You really need that seen to. My DF had kidney issues when he had prostate cancer and couldn't pee. It was a massive issue and he had to be hospitalised to deal with it. Obviously you don't have prostate issues but lack of ability to pee certainly needs to be dealt with urgently.

tulips27 · 17/01/2023 12:14

You need them to take a sample to find the right antibiotic, I don't know what this is called properly (someone help me out?) but my guess is you have an antibiotic that's not working well.

justasking111 · 17/01/2023 12:18

OH had this following prostate surgery. He was in another week because of the blockage. Catheterization again. It's serious. hospital only place to be

This isn't urgent

This isn't urgent

Wrong! 🙄

MrNook · 17/01/2023 12:27

Autocorrect fail, quite obviously meant to say is urgent in response to OP saying the GP only deals with non-urgent
