What did you have it for and did it work ?

I did.

It was lovely and very relaxing. I used to fall asleep on the bed with the needles all sticking in me!
Sadly it did nothing to help my ivf succeed.

paddler78 · 16/01/2023 19:29

Yes many years ago for insomnia and it worked wonders so much so when it flared up again a few years later I had more which again helped significantly

BCBird · 16/01/2023 19:29

I had it for undiagnosed aches and pains. Would improve my poor sleep for the day I had it. Helped keep aches and pains at a tolerable level.

Yes to treat some effects of whiplash, it worked in combination with physio and neck exercises at home. I was surprised to find it incredibly relaxing.

BruceAndNosh · 16/01/2023 19:30

Yes, from a physiotherapist.
For pain diagnosis and relief.

I'm a total sceptic but I quite enjoyed it.
Didn't hurt at all

Definitelysometime · 16/01/2023 19:31

I have it to help balance my hormones (perimenopausal) and find it brilliant. Makes me sleep better and much less of an angry cow.

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/01/2023 19:32

Absolutely loved it. I started it after a bunch of miscarriages and was struggling to conceive again, I was exhausted and feeling battered. Got lucky finding an amazing practitioner, saw her fortnightly and cried and railed and got needled and carried on going through the pregnancy. My husband was the one who noticed the difference in me the most, I used to float around beaming for the rest of the day.

If I could afford it I’d go back and have a session once every couple of months for a reset.

What are you considering it for?

DoneAdulting · 16/01/2023 19:32

I am on week 10 of a 12 week course for fertility. I've not noticed anything yet, and obviously not pregnant yet so the jury is still out. I'm having a combination of acupuncture and reflexology.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 16/01/2023 19:32

I did. Didn't do a thing. The room was freezing! Couldn't wait for it to be over. Give me a proper hands on massage any time!

Augustone · 16/01/2023 19:33

Yes for shoulder pain which had troubled me for 12 months. I had spoken to my GP, paid for physio, tried every pain killer I could get but nothing eased it. It was interfering with my sleep, work and driving were difficult. I tried acupuncture for the first time and that was it- I am not making this up but one session and that was it - pain completely gone.

Disneyforaweek · 16/01/2023 19:33

I had it done on the NHS for chronic pain in my neck/shoulder years ago. It was done by a physiotherapist and Id say it helped (it didn't cure me but I do think it helped)

Twoweeksandcounting · 16/01/2023 19:34

Yes, from a physio for sciatica. It was the only thing that worked, and I’m generally a bit sceptical of acupuncture

Nongatron · 16/01/2023 19:36

I had a lot of acupuncture to help me recover from the side effects of chemo.
I found it very helpful as it alleviated nausea and exhaustion
A very unexpected surprise bonus was that I unexpectedly got pregnant

abyssofwoah · 16/01/2023 19:37

Yes, in an attempt to bring on labour. It didn’t work. I mean the baby came eventually, but no thanks to the acupuncture.

Mamaneedsadrink · 16/01/2023 19:39

Twice once to induce labour (was fine, didn't feel it). Another time when I has a sore wrist (very painful, don't think the person knew what they were doing, it hurt afterwards too)

Do you mind telling me whereabouts they put the needles for insomnia? I've tried it and he put them at the back of my neck. Didn't work I'm afraid.

ExactlyasIsaid · 16/01/2023 19:41

I had it when I had bells palsy. I did regain movement in my face but will never know if it was down to the acupuncture or my natural healing was sped up because of the acupuncture.
I was so desperate so it was worth it for me as I felt I was doing something to help it, I strangely found it relaxing.
I

Flockameanie · 16/01/2023 19:45

I’ve had it for pain relief/ injuries lots of times and usually find it very effective. It really helped with my spd/pgp when I was pregnant

paddler78 · 16/01/2023 19:48

@Oblahdeeoblahdoe it was a while ago but some on my forehead particularly bridge of nose (a relaxation point apparently- scared the living daylights out of me as I hate needles so that's how desperate I was!), lots in back and some in feet and ankles as well, as I say I am really scared of needles but I was that desperate I would have try anything and I wouldn't have carried on with it if it hadn't helped - unfortunately GP just wanted to give me sleeping tablets and anti depressants which I knew wouldn't be a long term solution I wasn't depressed I just couldn't stay asleep for more than 20-30mins at a time :0(

Millionaireshortbread0 · 16/01/2023 19:49

I had it through pain management team on nhs for facial pain. It didn't work but glad I tried it. It didn't hurt and was relaxing so yhat was a nice bonus in that I had 30 minutes of no dc to run around after!

ellesbellesxxx · 16/01/2023 19:49

I had it when going through ivf. If nothing else, it made me feel relaxed and that I was doing something to help myself. Ivf worked for us but obviously will never know how much of an impact the acu had.

mightymam · 16/01/2023 19:50

I had it for tension in my neck area. I cried during every treatment. I don't know why but I used to be overcome with emotion every time!

jannier · 16/01/2023 19:53

I've had it loads of times fab results...
Chemo damaged arm I couldn't lift to put coat on, giving me migraine, the pain clinic wanted me on loads of drugs and a list of don't lift, don't sit on sofa, don't sit at table etc.
General neck pains
Hip bursitis
Hot flushes ....11 or more a night reduced to 3 on first treatment 0 by 3rd.
Plantar fascitis
Back pain.

mimbleandlittlemy · 16/01/2023 19:54

Yes - referred within NHS hospital pain clinic to their acupuncturist for lower back/coccyx pain. Had had two injections along my spine which did nothing but 6 weeks acupuncture took away the pain and it has stayed away for 15 years. I was deeply sceptical but it has been brilliant and I would have it again if offered it.

MarmiteCoriander · 16/01/2023 19:54

I tried it years ago for knee pain. It was pain free- but he must have hit a nerve or inside the joint one time and the pain dreadful. I came over cold, sweaty and pale and had to lie down.

I went for 5 sessions which made no difference at all. Many years later and an Xray showed I have osteoarthritis. I would try it again though as do believe there can be fantastic benefits.
