I want to get my daughter this vintage 29cm Le Creuset casserole dish. It’s on eBay for £60.00 plus £14.50 P&P. Ive attached a picture of it - would it clean up and is it worth £74? - it does say make an offer on eBay TIA

I would not pay that.

The pot is manky, the lid is manky and the cover of the Aga is manky.

My Le Crueset is thirty years old and it doesn’t look like that.

LexMitior · 16/01/2023 01:09

Not worth the money

daisyjgrey · 16/01/2023 01:11

Buy the Sainsbury's copies of Le Creuset, they're excellent.

Nope. I have a Le Creuset in that colour and I must've had it around thirty years. It looks better than that one.

DaVariance · 16/01/2023 01:20

That looks like it's been left on the hob too long and burnt

I've had mine years and it doesn't look that bad

Don't waste your money on that one

DaVariance · 16/01/2023 01:21

Plus you can see the enamel coming away at the edges

Friendofdennis · 16/01/2023 01:22

No. You can get new le creuset at tk maxx and homesense

Blanketpolicy · 16/01/2023 01:24

I have cast iron casseroles (denby), they are only 8-9 years old, used regularly, and still look brand new.

I am not really sure what I would say if someone bought me that 🤔

Notcontent · 16/01/2023 02:09

No way. Can’t believe someone wants £60 for that!!

The4teddybears · 16/01/2023 02:11

The Aldi Kirkland brand are “copies” and are very reasonably priced and do exactly the same as branded ones

mackthepony · 16/01/2023 02:12

What everyone said

Scamster!

greenspaces4peace · 16/01/2023 02:30

consider STAUBB much better quality with the black inner coated surface.
i'm excellent at cleaning pots and pans and that won't clean even with bbq cleaner it's old and worn.

I've only ever seen stoneware Le Creuset in TK Maxx. Never cast iron.

Bogeyes · 16/01/2023 02:47

Don't buy that piece of rubbish.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/01/2023 02:48

Fucking hell, no. I'd buy her a new one. She'll have it forever.

Oddbutnotodd · 16/01/2023 02:56

Look online for offers

WandaWomblesaurus · 16/01/2023 03:08

Aldi and Sainsbury's both do decent versions that are much cheaper and perform as well as my real stuff. You also should look at the Le Cr outlet store.

Nat6999 · 16/01/2023 03:22

I bought the Aldi ones & then rang Le Creuset up & told them some of my handles had broken, got sent loads of new ones free & swapped the ones on my Aldi pots to the Le Creuset ones, they have been used so much since I got them 15 years ago.

Agreed. Got mine for £30. The LC equivalent is £140.

No way would I pay £74 for that.

Orangesare · 16/01/2023 05:37

The staining shows it’s been used a lot and it won’t come off, it would be fine if you were being given it! Either find a new one in the sale or buy a cheaper version.
i bought three pans in a charity shop and already had a random unbranded cast iron enamelled one and the le crueset ones look and feel nicer but don’t perform any better.

Justellingthetruth · 16/01/2023 05:46

@Bertha1924

with the right care the staining will come off.
but it’s clear therefore it’s not been cares for

chips etc

dont buy

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 16/01/2023 05:53

Hell no!

Jellycatspyjamas · 16/01/2023 07:02

It will clean up, but it’s very overpriced - I’d happily pay a tenner but no more than that because cleaning it up will take a lot of work. I agree supermarket cast iron is just as good - I have both LC and a variety of generic and they’re all great.

Shinyandnew1 · 16/01/2023 07:06

What a chancer! No, I wouldn’t pay that.

EarlyYearsMe · 16/01/2023 07:07

I got a tip from here about using baking soda, 3-4 tablespoons + water to form a paste and then leave overnight in the pot, rinse with warm water and it should remove all stubborn stains. It worked wonders! You probably could get most those marks off, but I wouldn’t want to pay more than £40 inc P&P
