The West Wing... worth watching?

It's available on All 4 free of charge so I'll get the shitty ads but ER was worth it, I'm hoping this is too? Need a new series to binge on and never seen a single episode!

I loved it ❤️

Coraline353 · 13/01/2023 19:45

I'm not only rewatching the whole series AGAIN (not sure how many times) but I'm also re-listening to the West Wing Weekly podcast along with it!

So yeah, it's good 😁

Best thing on TV by a long way. The writing is just brilliant.

I’ve had a major crush on Josh Lyman for 15 years…

Those that love it, what makes it so good?

I just can’t see it. ER is miles ahead IMO!

MyNameIsErinQuin · 13/01/2023 19:47

Definitely! Im always jealous when someone watches it for the first time!

Weefreetiffany · 13/01/2023 19:50

The OG of walking along corridors talking quickly to move the otherwise office-based plot forward.

If you love political and legal dramas with proper characters and good ol American values then go for it. It’s also from before everything got dark, gritty and sordid so feels quite wholesome by comparison.

might Watch it again too, thanks for the heads up.

MattDamon · 13/01/2023 19:55

ER is one of my all-time faves. I couldn't get into West Wing though. Forced myself to watch until S2 and still wasn't into it. 😕

whiteroseredrose · 13/01/2023 20:04

It is brilliant.

Scarecrowrowboat · 13/01/2023 20:04

Absolutely.

I dunno. I’ve just started watching it and can’t see why it’s so amazing.

the cast is utterly fantastic- Martin Sheen, rob Lowe, stockard Channing in particular.

the storylines seem a bit meh, unless I’m missing something. Just stuff that goes on in the White House day to day.

i’ve stuck with it and am on season 2 now, but I’m not gripped. I’ll watch a bit now and then when I can’t find anything else.

Stand there in your wrongness being wrong!

crosspusscrossstitcher · 13/01/2023 20:08

Yes, Yes, a million times Yes...

156 episodes, and believe me, it will go in a flash.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 13/01/2023 20:12

Definitely yes!!

Im a bit jealous that you’ve never seen it before and get to watch it again for the first time.

quine04 · 13/01/2023 20:31

It's my all time fave series. So jealous of anyone watching for the first time. I do a rewatch every few years and unlike other shows it doesn't date too badly. And I discovered the west wing weekly podcast during lockdown which kept me sane. Enjoy.

Crucible · 13/01/2023 20:36

I gave up after one episode (and I wanted to like it). The first entrance of Martin Sheen quoting the bible, entering the room like he was the second coming - made me want to vomit.

harbaughskhakis · 13/01/2023 20:37

You must watch it and then repeat watch it every year, it is my favourite rewatch it never gets old.

Great description.

it's excellent stuff OP. i think I found season 2 or 3 a little long, but the others were all fantastic.

He was answering a question, and correcting the mistake of a religious lobbyist, who got their commandments in a muddle.

He wasn't trying to be the second coming!

tigger1001 · 13/01/2023 20:51

The west wing is on of my favourite tv series. I have watched it many times.

Davros · 13/01/2023 20:53

We tried watching it again from the beginning as we had lived the first few series. Didn't get past episode 2, boring and turgid!

wibblewobbleball · 13/01/2023 20:54

Incredible show. I'm on mat leave and might rewatch for about the 6th time Grin

ForFuckSteak · 13/01/2023 20:54

Bloody hell I'll take that as a yes then!

By the way. NOTHING can top ER. Absolutely nothing.

Yes!

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 13/01/2023 21:00

You say nothing can top ER, but you haven’t started the wing yet…

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 13/01/2023 21:02

I've just started a rewatch. It's one of my all time favourites and I was obsessed with it when it first came out. It's not a relaxing watch though. It's fast paced with a lot of US political references and jargon. It needs a certain amount of concentration to really get into it. I do envy you though, coming to it for the first time. So many brilliant little moments in it.

Crazycrazylady · 13/01/2023 21:02

Ong.:: love this so much
