Is Harry Potter lego OK for adults?

I want to buy my geeky, Harry Potter-loving son some Lego for his birthday. He's 30 and he loves making things.

Is HP Lego too childish?

If you've bought it for an adult, which one did you buy? I can afford the £120 price range but not the one that's £500!

Have a look at some of the animal models. Hedwig/Buckbeak/the Horntail. They’re the most challenging pieces without going crazy expensive.

That said, my 8yo could do them! But they have moveable parts and look great displayed- I’d say they’re the most “adult” of the affordable sets.

Good idea from @AllotmentTime - my 8yr old boy found the Hedwig pretty hard and he’s really good at Lego.

Another good one with movement is the Grimmuld Place set.

The Burrow is a really fun one too, so much detail and nice to display.

Sorry dont know specific ones but a colleague is 42 and she has bought/made up lots of the HP lego and proudly displays it.

I think what I want is something that's not too easy to make. It's hard to tell from looking on Amazon.

Considering the theme, the construction the philosophy, ect always a good.gift, there's even YouTube videos of people and their lego creations.

Go to the Lego.com site.
choose shop by age.
choose 13+ as 18+ will ultimately yield results that are out of your budget
then filter by theme Harry Potter

this will give you a selection of sets that aren’t too easy but fit your target.

i have a ton of Lego. I love the 18+ Harry Potter, but it’s also fun to make the younger sets.

If you choose a building one, check Etsy and see if anyone is selling a lighting kit to go with it. He can then wire it up which looks even better and adds a layer of complexity to the build.

I know a few adults who have Lego kits and Harry Potter Lego.
If he enjoys it then go for it.

I got Grimmauld Place for Christmas (I hinted heavily).

I have quite a lot of it. The detail is very clever.

Grimmauld Place has extendable ears.

That's why we buy DD HP Lego, so I can build it 'with DD'.

I'm an adulty adult and I collect HP Lego. Really enjoyed building the Hogsmede set, Ministry of Magic and Grimauld Place sets in particular. Haven't yet bought the full castle as it's £400 Blush

My favourite Lego set is a Frozen set which was 5+. If he likes Lego and Harry Potter, it will be fun.

Fawkes and the Hedwig were fun builds (the flying ones)
The Great Hall is a nice build too. As is the older Hogwarts Express (not the new one, that's out of my price range!)

If you arent sure on HP, the architecture sets are quite nice builds too.

If I had the space to display it (too many Lego sets already - sorry, no such thing) I'd buy Hogwarts castle in a heartbeat. I'm 57 by the way.

My Dds are mid to late 20s and got harry Potter last Christmas get him.it.
