I'm.sat waiting for new cleaners to come and I've got the wobbles - onlybhad 1 before was rubbish and only dh met her

I don't know where to put myself or what to say when they get here

I'm leaving for work while they clean so just need quick intro etc

I'm.a professional woman for fucks sake!

What daft things make you twitchy to make me feel less weird?

Driving down really steep roads, not only does it make my stomach flip I'm always concerned the brakes will fail. I take mum to Wales every Summer where a lot of tentative brake checking goes on!

(mine actually did fail once but luckily I was on a flat country lane and on my own!)

This but opposite! Any kind of hill start gets me in such a tizz. Just thinking about being in a queue on a hill makes me feel sick.

Tamarindtree · 12/01/2023 14:04

There are two trees that I sometimes drive past.

This one is from google street view and since then the tree is much more bent over.

I have this irrational feeling that it’s going to topple over as I drive under it!

The other tree is upright but is massive and is on a hill in a residential area and it gives off a menacing vibe which sounds ridiculous but I don’t like driving past it.

Walking over grilles and grids on the street, always think they're going to open up and drop me down a hole.

Walking under shops that have those pull-out awnings - always think they're going to drop on my head at the precise moment I pass by.

Parking on steep hills - in case the handbrake fails and crashes into someone.

Going through security at the airport.

I know I'm not carrying bricks of heroin.
I know I don't have a bomb up my arse.

But what if...?

DS had corrective eye surgery on a squint and was forever being pulled over before we twigged and updated his passport photo. I think they thought he was being trafficked on a false passport. He's 18 now and the whole family still gets the jitters queuing at security, even now he rarely travels with us 😆

Hairdressers for me as well. I now have a lovely, albeit expensive hairdresser and I refuse to deviate despite the cost.

Phone calls.
Seeing people you know randomly out and about and the inevitable awkward small talk.
Talking about myself. Most people love it apparently. I do not.
Having to speak in front of more than one person.
Walking into a crowded room at work.
Being asked to find something at work and not being able to do so.
Hairdresser appointments
So much more. I am a very nervous person which I really dislike about myself.

ofwarren · 12/01/2023 14:19

Talking on the phone
Workmen in the house
Someone knocking at the door

Coffeaddict · 12/01/2023 14:26

Sending personal admin emails. Wanted to change DS days in nursery and have procrastinated all week in writing a single email basically saying can I change his Monday to a Friday please

I'm also professional ( on mat leave right now) and constantly send emails in work without batting an eyelid.

All of these

when someone holds the door open for me

when I am going through a series of doors behind someone and they keep holding the door for me

🤣🤣🤣I always hold the door open for people - had no idea it may cause some people anxiety!

Mine are:
walking into fancy bars/restaurants - I’m generally a confident person and go out regularly but I still have a fleeting moment of panic when I first walk in and people look up.
squirrels - not frightened of them per se but there are squillions of them near us and lots of trees and they regularly scramble up a tree trunk in front of you or do a flying leap over your head - I’m always scared one will land/shit on me!
also, walking past buskers - I cringe so bad and always try not to walk in time with the music whilst also trying not to laugh! I don’t know why I get so embarrassed!

StewPots · 12/01/2023 14:32

Any form of tradesmen in the house - all been lovely and I’ve never had a bad experience but honestly I hate it. I feel so awkward in my own home - like I’m in the way. Last week I had two electricians in for two whole days - it was honestly hell. To be fair, I have a whole host of mental health issues which don’t help with that sort of thing but I’ve no idea why I’m like it!

Suprima · 12/01/2023 14:33

Absolutely hate walking along narrow bits of pavement. My suburb has lots of stretches of road like this.

I’m irrationally anxious of people mounting the pavement. It’s been worse since I had DD and am out with the pram.

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 12/01/2023 14:36

Ordering at the drive thru windows in fast food restaurants. I don't know why but I absolutely hate doing it-I get the kids to say what they want by leaning over me in the drivers seat to speak in to the window.

I'm a social work team manager. I've faced countless awful and scary people and situations in my line of work. And yet I can't order a Big Mac from a faceless drive thru speaker.

TheOinkySplit · 12/01/2023 14:48

@MooseBreath I'm exactly the same! My kids have been off school for three days with d&v and im petrified of their attendance getting low! Even though the school sent them home 🙈

Also really stupid but I'm terrified of kangaroos. So muscley and big!

Theheartsinvisiblefuries · 12/01/2023 14:49

Opening presents in front of people at Xmas and birthdays. Hate being the centre of attention and just want to cry. I'm not like that in any other aspect of my life. I'm usually very confident. I don't know what this is about.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 12/01/2023 14:57

Being the centre of attention
Public speaking

Amazing how many people hate phone calls, I am fine with this but I have noticed younger people will do anything to avoid answering calls. Maybe a generational thing that they have grown up with messages rather than calls 🤷‍♀️

Widgets · 12/01/2023 15:10

Driving over level crossings / rail tracks! I hate them, makes my stomach churn every time.

I know the barriers are up and a train isn’t coming my way, but what if…..
a signal failure occurred further up the track… I am terrified of level crossings.

Myonlysunshine123 · 12/01/2023 15:10

Ordering at the chippy
Makes me so nervous

HuntingoftheSnark · 12/01/2023 15:18

Any brown envelope with a window for the typed address, with my name on it. Double nervousness if it's from HMRC even though I have never done anything faintly risky or received any notification suggesting that I have done so. I still open it with massive trepidation.

ThreeRingCircus · 12/01/2023 15:26

People that I know following on in a car behind me. E.g. leaving an event at the same time as a friend/family member and then getting in our separate cars and them following me on the way home. I'm a perfectly competent driver but suddenly I'm paranoid that they'll be judging my driving, or are they trying to catch me in the rearview mirror and wave if we stop at lights. I absolutely hate it.

Blueuggboots · 12/01/2023 15:31

Getting off a train...what if the door won't open?!

purpledalmation · 12/01/2023 15:34

Hair appointments and telephone calls on the landline

purpledalmation · 12/01/2023 15:36

Smear tests. But everyone hates them

Chikapu · 12/01/2023 15:45

Having to return something to the shop. I get all flustered.

Nuns.

808Kate1 · 12/01/2023 15:49

Any kind of tradespeople coming to the house, but especially if I'm home alone. Even the Asda or Tesco deliveries at the front door!

Driving over bridges or along causeways.

Maxifly · 12/01/2023 15:53

Driving over a level crossing. Even though the lights are at green, I'm convinced a high speed train will roar out of nowhere.
