Shops with decent school tights that stay up?

DD flat out refuses to wear trousers at all. It’s dresses, skirts and occasionally shorts. Never trousers ever, even at home.

She wears pinafores and skirts for school with tights.

But tights never stay up and she won’t wear socks in the winter. We have the same issue at home.

But school have now said she cannot wear tights as they keep falling down around her ankles. They have started making her change the minute the tights fall down into her socks (she has a pair in her PE kit for PE days), but then she complains she’s cold in socks and will try and put her tights back on after PE.

I am done with it and desperate to find tights that actually stay up. She’s 8, Year 4, but has very shallow hips and no waitline or belly. She also has some SN, which is why it’s turning into a battle of wills. We’ve tried age 8-9 and 9-10 which I could of fitted a whole other DD into, 7-8 which slipped down after a few minutes. And 6-7 which were too tight.

I’ve tried M+S, F+F/Tesco and Nutmeg/Morrisons. Literally none stayed up.

Any other suggestions?

Has she tried wearing a pair of PE shorts on top of the tights to keep them up ?

@KangarooKenny Good idea about the shorts, not sure she'd wear them but I can suggest it. Will also try next

Can you sew? I had to sew a small strip of elastic into the back of each of my daughter's pairs of tights to keep them up. Stretch the elastic as you sew and then it bunches up and brings the waist in.

What about footless tights? You don't get them falling down then? I used to get them from Boden for my tall skinny DD.

foodtoorder · 11/01/2023 16:14

My same age DD sounds a similar build to yours.
We haven't had this problem though.
I can see you have tried M&S but they do have what I think were called weather sensor tights which aren't knitted. More like an adult tight type fabric, they wash well and keep shape.
However we have their knitted type too and haven't had issues.
Sorry, just posting my experience.

My dgd favourite tights are from John Lewis, she says they aren’t annoying.

Fleabigg · 11/01/2023 16:19

Next are best on my long thin DD, her M&S ones the elastic went after about 2 weeks and they were falling down all the time.

MaverickGooseGoose · 11/01/2023 16:21

Next were best for mine at that age

Quornflakegirl · 11/01/2023 16:21

We always go with John Lewis school tights. My girls are skinny and very tall and they fit well and stay up. They also find them easy to get up.

Quornflakegirl · 11/01/2023 16:22

I found Next bobbled very quickly.

BeagleMumma · 11/01/2023 16:23

Snag tights.

They do 'school packs'

whoami24601 · 11/01/2023 16:26

I've always found sainsburys good for.my tall thin DD

Invisimamma · 11/01/2023 16:28

Snag do school tights. They are the best tights I've ever had as an adult and wouldn't buy anything else now..

FrostySnow · 11/01/2023 16:32

Sainsbury's. Or she could wear black leggings with black socks, would look just like tights, but might fit better.

hauntedvagina · 11/01/2023 16:33

The only way I have ever managed to get tights to stay up is the Superman approach.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 11/01/2023 16:34

Try high denier opaque options? Amazon or next or similar? Normally sell in multi packs

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 11/01/2023 16:35

I always wear extra knickers over the top. Warm and safe
