I've said it before but I have to say it again, I cannot believe how warm it is for January.

It is warm enough to get away without the heating on. I am really concerned about what this means for the temperatures next summer & global warming in general. Never in my life have I been able to sail through January with just a woolly jumper & scarf. It's insane.

SE here and was 8 degrees when i went out this afternoon which is about average for Jan. I find Feb is usually colder here

PurpleButterflyWings · 10/01/2023 23:03

I don't know where you are @StarInTheHeavens , but it's not that warm where I am. (North Midlands.) It's been up to maybe 10 or 11 degrees C today, and is due to stay that way most of the week.

It's not exactly flipping tropical. Confused

It's not that unusual to have the low double figures in January, not really. And it goes down to zero at night, so I don't know what you're on about it really.

@TheChosenTwo goodness. What a clever cat you have!

I’m in the SE, cat told me it was 12 degrees this afternoon when picking ds up from football. I was just in joggers, a tshirt and jumper - wasn’t cold at all (okay yes, for the 10 minutes I was actually outside 😂 but I was practically stood still for the whole time!). It’s not mild enough for me to not want the heating on mind you, but it’s definitely not what I would class as ‘cold’ out.

Was the cat just passing by or did you take it with you? Is it one of those ‘thermo cats’ that speaks the temperature?

PurpleButterflyWings · 10/01/2023 23:06

I think you need to get out more. As I say, it's the low double figures in the day - 10 to 11 C. The next few days are 8 to 11 C. And it's 0 to 3C overnight. Quite normal for early January. You are acting like it's 27 C (in early January,) and you're getting sunburnt!

LaurieFairyCake · 10/01/2023 23:07

Yeah I'm in London and still had my heating on all day Confused - it was cold enough for that

PurpleButterflyWings · 10/01/2023 23:08

Nicewarmfeet · 10/01/2023 21:46

Yes 13 degrees today. Very mild for January. I too fear the summer will be scorching. It's quite scary when you properly stop and think about it. I think we'll likely have another run of 40 degree + days. Drought and the rest of it. The next big war will be for water not oil (in my opinion) I hope I'm wrong.

😂Oh dear!

TheUsualChaos · 10/01/2023 23:12

It's mild for January but for me I feel like December and January have swapped this winter with December being much colde and now January being a bit milder than usual so overall seems fairly balanced.

user764329056 · 10/01/2023 23:24

We’ve often had mild January with February and March being freezing

Intheroommadeasy · 10/01/2023 23:32

I'll leave this here, it's irrefutable despite the posters saying this is normal, sure isn't

Crop what you like off some random article from somewhere on the internet to try and prove your opinion is 'irrefutable.' Doesn't change the fact that it's not that bloody warm for 10th January. It's 7-11 degrees C in much of the UK, even lower in other parts, and 0 to 3 C at night. Perfectly NORMAL. Stop acting like we need fecking suntan lotion on FFS.

Notsa · 10/01/2023 23:45

I've got the back doors open tonight as it feels really warm and the house needed cooling down. I thought I would have it open for ten mins or so to get a blast of cold air in but it is really mild so I've left them open. I am sitting here with my neck fan on now. It is really weird temps at the moment.

PMSL, at you insulting my intelligence, a typical reaction from people with a low IQ who cannot think of anything better to say other than 'you're a bit thick.' Also pot kettle black much?!. I am merely saying it is not that warm for January. DO learn to read properly and try to improve your comprehension skills dear. You won't look as silly then. Bless . Flowers

WomanFromTheNorth · 11/01/2023 00:02

I am already dreading the summer. I just can't bear that heat again. It's scary.

Columbina · 11/01/2023 00:05

It was 13 degrees here today. I went for a run in a vest top and shorts once the heavy rain had stopped.

Yeah, I was on the sunbed with my bikini on - slathered in ambre solaire.

HeddaGarbled · 11/01/2023 00:10

It’s felt cold here all day today (East coast) but it’s been wet and windy which makes it feel colder. I’ve had the heating on intermittently.

ProhibitedSteps · 11/01/2023 00:40

It's freeeeezing here in North Yorkshire! It was 2° on school run this morning

It was the BBC actually and more than happy to provide the full link if you'd like to enlighten yourself. I didn't see the deleted messages aimed at you but they probably said what I'm thinking.

Btw you lose most people by being thoroughly patronising and calling them 'dear' and saying 'bless' to them.

There's a film called The Trick - look it up, true story.

It's been freezing in Scotland! I think there was one day when it was briefly mild but that's it.

I’m in Glasgow and it has been pretty mild since Christmas. It was about 7 degrees today, not too cold but very rainy.

PlusLaMeme · 11/01/2023 17:35

Has OP said where she lives? I'm in Wales and it's Baltic here!! I went for a walk and had to stick my hands under warm water when I got home because my fingers were essentially ice sticks.

EileenAdler · 11/01/2023 17:37

I just wish it would stop raining.

NestingSparrow · 11/01/2023 17:40

We are in a climate emergency OP.
