I haven't really seen any of the UK. I've lived in South Yorkshire, Cambridge and Norfolk. Holidays have always been local, or France.

I dobt have much of a budget, and have 2 primary aged DC. So, please give me your must visit places, 1 close to home (my home 🤣) and then the must visit places anywhere in the UK.

I'd like to do some day trips, and overnights for the closer places. Mostly me znd DC, but sometimes (fingers crossed!! Just me).

Thank you!

I had a lovely break with the little one recently to Sheffield with day trips out to Derbyshire places like Eyam, Chatsworth, the trampoline park at Meadowhall

Silkierabbit · 09/01/2023 17:44

Horsey beach to see seals and seal pups if you go now. 3.50 parking is only charge. If not been there already.

Wells, the smallest cathedral city in England. Beautiful!

RedToothBrush · 09/01/2023 17:52

York is massively overrated. Hated it.

Scottish Highlands.

tappinginto2023 · 09/01/2023 18:04

StoneHenge.

I wouldn't pay to go round it, but there is no doubt the heart-dropping moment when you see it across the fields while driving (especially as I always forget it's there and I always seem to time it at sunsetting time

I have to go there! Would there still be seals if we go the weekend after next? So 20/21 January?

LordSugarTits · 09/01/2023 18:24

Seals pup on the beach at Horsey until early February, although they can be seen there all year round. I’ve seen people swimming among them.
You shouldn’t take a dog, and can’t usually get too close for obvious reasons but it’s lovely to see. Such beautiful beaches in Norfolk.

FadedRed · 09/01/2023 18:28

Fossiling at Lyme Regis/Charmouth beach.
Space Centre near Leicester.
Giants Causeway/Northern Ireland coastline
Derbyshire: lots of places, Eyam, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Halls, Matlock Bath (cable car to Heights of Abraham), Castleton Blue John mines, Buxton, cycle hire on the Tissington trail, Monsale Dale etc, etc., etc.

UrsulaPandress · 09/01/2023 18:29

Anglesey

Selfesteem22 · 09/01/2023 18:53

Day trip from Norfolk- London maybe? Colchester is quite nice?

Ilovelurchers · 09/01/2023 19:00

My favourite places to go with a child are Aberystwyth and Bowness. My daughter and I have our holiday in one or other of these every year, both if we can afford it!

seperatedmum · 09/01/2023 19:03

Dunstable Downs

Longleat near Bath would be a nice visit, and Stonehenge is very near. Taking a boat out in River Avon, near there, would be fun, and steam railway, nearer Bristol.

louderthan · 09/01/2023 19:11

Bath
The Kent coast (Deal, Whitstable and I went to Folkestone last May and loved it)
The Lake District
Glasgow and Edinburgh
The south-eastern coast of Scotland (Anstruther etc)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/01/2023 19:14

London! At the very least you should see Westminster, Number 10, Buckingham Palace, one of the Royal Parks, Nelson, the Tower and the river, but there's so much else to explore and it can create opportunities for something new every visit.

Liverpool - the docks are a Unesco World Heritage site (or were - did they lose it yet? I know there was discussion), and the museums there are world class.

Giant's Causeway for the most remarkable coastal landscape.

Stratford upon Avon for Shakespeare's birthplace

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/01/2023 19:14

Bristol and Bath - suspension bridge / Roman baths
