I can't believe it's January and warm enough to not need the heating on!

I'm really thankful that this makes the energy bills easier but not so happy about what this means for global warming. If January is this warm, what will July '23 be like? 😬

Bloody cold here today, said it was 8 and I was freezing my norks off in 3 tops and 2 pairs of socks plus a blanket at times and struggled to get the house to 17 degrees.

But I didn’t enjoy the heat wave one bit so I share your concerns about the summer.

SeeminglyAbsurd · 06/01/2023 21:55

DH was in a T-shirt today and I just had a t shirt & long sleeve top on when we went shopping. Apparently it’s going to get colder but I’m usually a 3 tops, big coat and 2 pairs of socks person so it was weirdly warm today.

Effieinamaisonette · 06/01/2023 21:55

It was warm today. I think we're predicted 11 degrees and sunny spells here tomorrow.

WednesdaysPlaits · 06/01/2023 21:56

It was cold here today. I put the heating back on

CheesenCrackersmm · 06/01/2023 21:58

Somebody was telling me that summer 2023 will be hotter than 2022 though I do not know how much truth there is in that. I did not actually mind the 40 degree days that we had. Yes they were a bit hotter than I would ideally have liked but I cycled home from work slowly on both days and was alright.

What did piss me off was the lack of rainfall. If we can have a mostly dry summers but a bit more rain of an evening I will happily put up with a few more days in the forties.

As for January I cannot really tell we are having a warmer than usual month or if the extra cold December has just given the illusion that it is currently warmer than usual

BiasedBinding · 06/01/2023 21:58

We still need the heating on for an hour or so morning and evening. It’s mild for the time of year yes but still winter

NewBootsAndRanty · 06/01/2023 21:58

It's actually going to get warmer over the rest of this evening and up to 11° overnight tonight - really doesn't seem right.

nbchyj · 06/01/2023 21:59

I'm cold, my heating is still on I like being toasty warm.

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/01/2023 22:00

It's only 6C where I am so the heating is still on

Findyourneutralspace · 06/01/2023 22:02

I wish it was in my house. Every time I turn the heating off it plummets. I’m WFH and doing about 6 hours a day, and that’s economising.

Roseberry1 · 06/01/2023 22:05

It's felt like this for years and years! 20/30 years ago, it was absolutely freezing all winter. January at school was freezing your arse off doing pe outside in shorts! The type of cold where you were just physically numb and no amount of running around made you warmer. It just hurt like hell when the hockey stick hit your legs!

AdoraBell · 06/01/2023 22:06

We have plant pots outside. The pansies have flowered this week.

Purplecatshopaholic · 06/01/2023 22:26

Cold here and very windy. Heating still very much on. East Central Scotland

Squabbledee · 06/01/2023 22:27

My bedroom thermometer says 15C currently and that's with no heating on today.

Very mild down South this winter. Apart from the week of snow I have only needed to have the heating on for a couple of hours in the evening.

It's not right, it's pretty worrying tbh..

YukoandHiro · 06/01/2023 23:17

Not in our house! I had it on for about 4-5 hours today, 2 in the AM and 3 this eve

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 06/01/2023 23:21

Things are not going in a good direction. ☹️
Britain's average temp for the year was over 10 degrees for the first time in 2022.

ApolloandDaphne · 06/01/2023 23:22

Fucking freezing on the east coat of Scotland. Heating is firmly on.

stayathomegardener · 07/01/2023 02:33

120

stayathomegardener · 07/01/2023 02:34

Ignore that, trying to say 12° here in the NW.
Unseasonably warm.

Have you tried an electric throw instead? I got one from argos, the cheapest one they sell and its saved me a fortune working from home.

I refuse to put the heating on just for me in the day.

@AnneLovesGilbert tucking your norks into your socks should keep them a bit warmer!!

@Squabbledee yes, it's great for the bills, but a pretty dire reflection of the climate.

im too hot at night with just a sheet & light fleece blanket, but sticking my legs/feet out from the blankets is giving me awful cramps. & just a sheet isn't enough for when I first go to bed. So I'm not getting any bloody sleep.

not to mention the wind, I've never known it to be so windy here at night (13 years in the same house) night after night after night, it's driving me (more) mad!!

Have you tried silk to sleep in? It's expensive but it makes a massive difference for me.

Athenen0ctua · 07/01/2023 03:17

Mine's on the timer but barely clicking on as it's already warm. It's not helping the washing dry which is the only problem!
