WHSMITHS - who is buying from them? Anything other than a emergency magazine for the train and maybe a bottle of water? But some of their stores are HUGE!

FAT FACE - always a massive sale on!

OP posts:

Argos

RenovationsUnderway · 03/01/2023 22:37

Ha ha you're naming all the shops on our high street!

Mountain Warehouse. Load of badly made crap.

Not in my local store thankfully! I've got 100% cotton t-shirts, skirts and shorts for the kids, thick socks, winter jackets and boots, thermals, hip flasks etc. I have been in some shite ones in other towns though.

Mylittlepea · 03/01/2023 22:38

Yes WH Smith, total overpriced crap these days.

I cannot fathom how Hotel Chocolat is still in business - yes delicious products but oh SO expensive😳

Xmasbaby11 · 03/01/2023 22:38

I like Next, WHSmith and Boots!

Next decent quality clothes for dd 8 and 10.

Boots where I am has great customer service, staff really know their stuff, great selection of beauty and chemist products. I go there all the time. Opening hours and pharmacy are v good too.

WHSMITH is a fave of my kids. Great for birthday presents and cards, lovely stationery, good selection of magazines.

Dryandirriatble · 03/01/2023 22:38

DS works for WH Smith. Apparently their ariport/station outlets are.doing very well, but the high street stores are being run down.

I'm always surprised Boots is still going. When I worked.in property finance (25 years ago!) Boots the Chrmist was used as a synonym for gold.standard tenant. Now I don't understand who shops there and the shelves are almost empty.

User1785498 · 03/01/2023 22:38

A lot of these shops need putting out of their misery and probably just offer an online offering.

Littlebelina · 03/01/2023 22:38

LuluBlakey1 · 03/01/2023 22:34

Dated and naff. Can't believe it's still going.

2 in meadowhell. Had queues outside over Xmas (with queue ropes). Someone likes them Confused (not me).

Smiths is awful and PO in ours a nightmare. Still love Waterstones though and don't think Amazon is as cheap for books as used to be

bibbif · 03/01/2023 22:39

H&M and Zara.

🤔

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 03/01/2023 22:39

Our Matalan just closed down and I miss it. Some of the men's stuff really suited DH and DS's body types and their Men's pure cotton tops, grandad tops, funkier shirts and older boys school trousers wash well. Also used to do a surprisingly nice Christmas range for the price but then it all went a bit monogram/initial crazy. I know they are still online but I like to see the real colors/feel the textures.

H&M and Zara.

🤔

My two favourites! Zara is always rammed in my city, shows how original I am.

GlassBunion · 03/01/2023 22:40

Also... Homebase.
Visit quite often but usually leave empty handed.

bibbif · 03/01/2023 22:41

Homebase - I don't know how it's still going with all these alternatives, when was the last time anyone went to a homebase

I like Homebase for plants

AnyFucker · 03/01/2023 22:41

I am not enjoying the snobbery about Shoe Zone. It’s all a lot of people can afford 😕

Littlebelina · 03/01/2023 22:41

All the Argos near us have decamped to Sainsburys

catsonahottinroof · 03/01/2023 22:41

I agree with Clarks too. The one in our town it's almost like they want to close down. The staff always look really miserable, there's hardly ever anyone in and for a relatively big shop they have hardly anything on display. Also prices have gone up massively while quality has gone down.
I think Waterstones will be ok (hopefully). They always seem reasonably busy and not just with people browsing.

Pouffeycat · 03/01/2023 22:41

All retail workers watching this thread with dread

Thankfully my employer hasn't been named ...yet!

bibbif · 03/01/2023 22:42

Boots seems to really have declined & are often near Superdrug's which look much better

tiddlywinks2 · 03/01/2023 22:42

Shoe zone! There's so many around!

User1785498 · 03/01/2023 22:42

Waterstones have just opened a shop in our mall

8misskitty8 · 03/01/2023 22:42

We have a big outdoor retail park which has high rents so baffled at these still being open :-
WH smith, It’s huge but always empty.
ProChef opened about a year ago, never seen anyone in the shop. Massively overpriced tat by the looks of it.
Pandora shop, expensive for a tiny bit of metal.
Superdrug there also, why do people get eyebrows threaded at the window for all to see ?
River island, tat.

RewildingAmbridge · 03/01/2023 22:43

Warren James, two on our high street!! Who should there?
Also Wimpy, DH is convinced they are the front for a criminal enterprise, especially when one of our many empty branches locally was burnt out in an arson incident

neonjumper · 03/01/2023 22:43

GlassBunion · 03/01/2023 22:29

Obviously WHSmiths but also Paperchase.

Teenagers love the stationary at paper chase ... totally on trend with highlighters, gel pens , stickers etc .

Really good reward scheme ... £5 on your birthday ... £5 for every £50 you spend ( which you build up on a reward card ) that you add to your apple wallet .

I buy their notebooks for work and personal journaling !

gretchinella · 03/01/2023 22:43

Runningfire · 03/01/2023 22:30

Yes, it’s been often discussed on Reddit forums that WH Smith’s are fronts for Mafia run county lines gangs. Kids nip in, pretend to get a twix and pop back out onto a train to Coventry with £10k of ketamine

😂

I agree, got all families wellies from there and school schools
