What time does your 15 yo go to bed on a school night?

Asking because mine says all her friends go to bed at half eleven, and I think that's too late when she has to be up for school.

Would be interested to know what others think.

I’ve got a 14 yr old. He thinks 1130 on Xbox is perfectly reasonable - school nights included.

I think Xbox off at 9ish and lights out for 10-1030 is reasonable. Otherwise he won’t be getting enough time for sleep before school.

OopsItsAPony · 03/01/2023 21:59

Mine goes at 11.30, but he’s always been one of those people who doesn’t seem to need as much sleep as most other people.

Ducksurprise · 03/01/2023 21:59

I'd imagine she is correct, in fact many will be going to sleep a lot later than that, I know this not only because they tell me but because I see the notifications flash up on my teens phone in the middle of the night.

My year 11 is upstairs for 10, all lights out by 10.30 and 11 on the weekend. I've softened over the years my older ones were lights out by 10pm.

I leave mine to it, I don't set bedtimes once they reach that age.

Zigazagah · 03/01/2023 22:01

My yr 11 is in bed for 9/9.30 if no sports, lights out by 9.30/10. 17 yr old bed by 10 as I’m college. They need their sleep, they get up at 6.15!

piedbeauty · 03/01/2023 22:02

Usually ten on school nights, later at the weekend. He decides his own bedtime and is pretty sensible.

Treetrim · 03/01/2023 22:02

I try for lights out by 10.30

Veryactivenymphomaniac · 03/01/2023 22:03

She sets her own time but I suspect lights go out around 10pm, up at 6am.

ThatsRoughBuddy · 03/01/2023 22:03

10 - 10.30

MajorCarolDanvers · 03/01/2023 22:05

My 14 year old is chased upstairs at 10pm and we check his devices are off at about 11pm.

I don't mind if he reads for longer.

Axahooxa · 03/01/2023 22:05

11-12. Too late but I can’t fight it- natural circadian rhythms and teenage stubbornness 😆

SebastiansLeg · 03/01/2023 22:06

We didn't set a bedtime as such but the understanding was you have to be able to get yourself out of bed, into the shower, have time for breakfast and do it all with a pleasant attitude. I would say it was around 11pm coming upstairs, another 10 mins brushing teeth and getting into bed before lights out. He was out of bed at 7am and out the door to school at 8.15am.

MrsJBaptiste · 03/01/2023 22:06

10.30ish (probably nearer 11pm TBH)

Much later than when I was 15 but he doesn't get up until 7.50am - I used to be on the school bus by then!

consideringachange · 03/01/2023 22:06

I was at boarding school at that age. We had to be in bed at 10 I think, but could read for a bit. A bit older we were allowed to keep lights on till 11 but had to be in our own rooms from 10. Being already on site we could get up quite late though!

HippyChickMama · 03/01/2023 22:08

Ds (15) in year 11 goes up at 9pm in the week, is asleep by 10, reads in bed but no screens. Friday and Saturday night, he goes to bed when he wants to, usually by 11pm. He's up at 6:30 during the week and even at weekends he is usually up by 7, he's always been an early riser

MissyB1 · 03/01/2023 22:09

14 year old goes up at 10pm (does a lot of moaning about it though), and has to leave his phone downstairs. We have a rule of no phones in bedrooms overnight - including our own.

FannyFifer · 03/01/2023 22:10

I just leave them to it, as long as they bugger off out the living room by 2200 it's up to them what time they sleep.,

AuditAngel · 03/01/2023 22:11

Mine it depends on evening activities. Monday and Thursday she gets home around 10 (friend’s mum drops her off) and probably in bed around 11. Wednesday and Friday her activities finish around 8, home about 8.30, bed probably around 10.

watchfulwishes · 03/01/2023 22:12

Mine have gone to sleep when they want - but no devices in the room. They naturally had different bedtimes. I read until late myself. Guidance for teens is 8-10 hours, mine did all get that but definitely covered the range.

PollyEsther · 03/01/2023 22:14

No idea. He says he’s asleep by 12 most school nights and I’ve no reason to disbelieve him. He gets up and out in the mornings on time and independently so not sure why I’d dictate it at this point tbh.

Same with his 14yo brother.

Forcing bed time for teenagers is not a battle I’ve chosen.

My 15 year old is in bed by 10 on a school night, but she has to get up at 6.45am

usually asleep by 10pm. He gets up at 6.30 though.

Choccolatte · 03/01/2023 22:16

15 year old is usually asleep by 10.30 we have no screens after 10pm

asawas · 03/01/2023 22:31

Goes upstairs at 10. Phone / iPad etc has to be in our room charging when we go to bed around 11. Is later one school night a week due to late sports training.

Teen has never had access to tech overnight and doesn't have a tv in bedroom which really helps.
If not sleepy, can read as long as wanted.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 03/01/2023 22:35

We stopped mandating a set time this summer holidays just gone, while she was 14.

She generally chooses to head up to her room by about 9ish, to go on her laptop, read, draw, or whatever, and she's usually got her light out by 10:30pm on a school night.

When we were mandating a bedtime, she'd stay up way past it sneakily reading, so scrapping bedtime has actually been a win.
